Athough compex and advanced, it is convenient to use and operate. Its ruggedness wi aow many years of use if proper operating techniques are foowed. Pease read the foowing instructions carefuy and aways keep this manua within easy reach. 1.FEATURES This instrument is compatibe with four standards of ISO, DIN, ANSI and JIS and is widey used in production site to measure surface roughness of various machinery-processed parts, cacuate corresponding parameters according to seected measuring conditions and ceary dispay a measurement parameters. When measuring the roughness of a surface, the sensor is paced on the surface and then uniformy sides aong the surface by driving the mechanism inside the tester. The sensor gets the surface roughness by the sharp buit-in probe. This roughness causes dispacement of the probe which resuts in change of inductive amount of induction cois so as to generate anaogue signa, which is in proportion to the surface roughness at output end of phase-sensitive rectifier. The excusive DSP processes and cacuates and then outputs the measurement resuts on LCD. * Mutipe parameter measurement: Ra, Rz, Rq, Rt * Highy sophisticated inductance sensor * Four wave fitering methods : RC, PC-RC, GAUSS and D-P * Buit-in ithium ion rechargeabe battery and contro circuit with high capacity * Can communicate with PC computer for statistics, printing and anaysing by the optiona cabe and the software for RS232C interface. * Manua or automatic shut down. The tester can be switched off by pressing the Power key at any time. On the other hand, the tester wi power itsef off about 5 minutes after the ast key operation. 1

To unoad, hod the main part of sensor or the root of protective sheath and sowy pu it out. a.the probe of the sensor is the main part of this instrument and requires cose attention. b. During instaation and unoading, the probe shoud not be touched in order to avoid damage which can affect measurement resuts. c. Connection of the sensor shoud be reiabe during instaation.

4 3.4 Power adapter and charging of battery When the battery votage is too ow (which is indicated by the battery symbo on the screen), the instrument shoud be charged as soon as possibe. Foow the indications shown in Figure 3-6. the power adapter shoud be pugged into the power socket of the instrument. The power adapter shoud be connected to 1~22V 5Hz and charging of the battery wi begin. Input votage for power adapter is AC 1~22V with DC 5~7V of output, about 3mA of charging current, charging time of up to 5. hours. This instrument uses a ithium ion chargeabe battery. Layout of connection ines shoud ' not affect measuring Part whie charging. B. The meanings of battery indicators are: If battery votage is norma, measurement can be carried out. The back part inside prompt shows capacity of Battery; Indicates too-ow votage and battery shoud be charged as soon as possibe; indicates that battery is fu. C. Reative high noises of the power source can affect measurement to weak signa to some extent when battery is being charged; D. The back ight of LCD wi be on when charging even if the tester is sti in the state of power off. The tester can monitor the process of charging itsef. 4.MEASURING PROCEDURES 4.1 Preparations for measurement A. Switch on to test if the battery votage is norma. B. The instrument automaticay restores conditions of the ast measurement before it is turned off since these conditions are automaticay stored. Meanwhie, the second ine of 2 digits on dispay shows the groups stored in the memory. Before taking measurement, preparations have to be made and checked. C. To check if the cutoff ength seected is right. if not, Depress the CUTOFF to seect. For the recommended cutoff ength, pease see the tabe in 1.7on page 15. D. To check if the evauation ength seected is right. 7

5 MENU READ If not, depress the key RANGE,then SAVE or READ to seect. To save and quit, just depress the key RANGE again. E. To check if the profie fiter seected is right. If not, Depressing the MENU And not reeasing it ti 'FIL T' on Dispay. It takes about 4 seconds from starting pressing The MENU. And then pressing key SAVE or READ key to cyce between RC,PC-RC,GAUSS,D-P or vice versa. To quit, just press any key other than SAVE key or READ key. F. To check if the measurement unit seected is right. if not, depressing the key MENUand not reeasing it ti 'UNIT' on the Dispay. It takes about 8 seconds from starting depressing key MENU. And then pressing SAVE or READ to switch between the metric system and the British system. To quit, just press any key other than SAVE key or READ key. G. To check if the parameter seected is right. If not, depress the key RaRz to seect. This step is very important. H.To cear the surface of the part to be measured; I. Refer to Figure 4-1 and Figure 4-2 to pace the instrument correcty, staby and reiaby on the surface to be measured. J. Refer to Figure 4-2,the siding trai of the sensor must be vertica to the direction of process ine of the measured surface. K. Adjustabe eg and sheath of sensor When the measured surface of the part is smaer than the bottom surface of the instrument, the sheath of sensor and adjustabe eg can be used for auxiiary support to compete measurement (as shown in Figure 4-3) Wrong Correct Wrong Fig.4-1 RaRz... 6 4.2 Measuring After preparations is done, just press Start key to measure if measuring conditions are not to be changed. Firsty, you wi see the --- on the dispay and the probe is moving forward and samping. Then you wi see the probe stop siding and move backward. The measurement resut shows on the dispay after the probe stop moving Save the measurement resuts to the tester for ater use After measuring, you wi see the origina M becomes the 'M'. In such a state, you can save this group of resuts incuding Ra,Rz,Rq,Rt and measurement conditions to the memory of the tester by depressing the key. SAVE Then the symbo 'M ' changes to 'M' automaticay whie the number of memorized groups increases How to browse the different parameters In M state, you can browse different parameters. The corresponding parameter and its vaue show on the dispay once depressing the key RaRz Deete the measurement resuts In M state, you can deete this group of resuts by depressing the key MENU. Then the symbo M changes to M automaticay. On the other hand, the new measurement resuts wi repace the od ones if pressing the Start key in M state. 5.HOW TO BROWSE THE MEMORIZED DATA No matter in M state or M state, you can browse the memorized data by depressing the key READ. The browsing state is marked in R on dispay. When in R state, you can browse different groups by depressing the key or key. The seria number of the group SAVE READ 1 shows on the dispay. For each group, you can sti browse different parameters. The corresponding parameter and its vaue show on the dispay once depressing the key RaRz HOW TO CALIBRATE THE TESTER 6.1 To enter the caibration state, just depressing the Key MENU and not reeasing it ti 'CAL' on the Dispay. It takes about 12 seconds from starting depressing MENU. The caibration state is marked by 'CAL'. 6.2Take a measurement based on the Standard sampe pate.contrast the measuring vaue with the vaue of standard sampe pate based on the same parameter. 6.3Depress the key SAVE or READ to adjust the reading to the standard vaue. 6.4Just repeat 6.2 to 6.3 ti the accuracy is ok. 6.5To quit, just press any key other than START key. 6.6 The instrument has been thoroughy tested before deivery to ensure that the dispay vaue error is ess than 1%. The user is recommended not to use the Caibration function too often. 7. HOW TO RESTORE THE FACTORY SETTINGS. 7.1 When to restore It is necessary to restore the factory settings when a new probe is instaed or the tester coud not measure any more. 7.2How to restore Just depressing the key MENU and not reeasing it ti 'FAC' on the Dispay. It is about 16 seconds from starting depressing key MENU. This state is aso marked by ' CAL', pease see the Fig press the START key on the Standard sampe pate. During the probe moves forward, you wi see the different reading on the dispay varying with the 11

7 movement of the probe Use the screwdriver to adjust the resistance(3-35) and et the reading on the dispay cose to the vaue of Standard sampe pate Repeat to ti the resut is satisfactory. The above procedures restore the factory settings After the factory settings, you have to caibrate the tester again. Pease refer the part COMMUNICATE WITH PC 8.1Insta the optiona RS232C software to the PC. 8.2Connect the tester to the COM port of the PC with the optiona RS232 cabe. 8.3Run the software on the desktop and seect the COM port in the system settings. 8.4Cick the button of data coection, then cick the button of Begin/Continue. 8.5 To downoad the groups stored in the Memory, just press the key READ. 9. GENERAL MAINTENANCE *Avoid crashes, intensive vibration, heavy dust, humidity, grease stains and strong magnetic fieds; *The sensor is a precise part and shoud be protected carefuy. It is recommended to put it back in the box after each operation; * Protect the standard sampe pate beonging to the instrument carefuy to avoid caibration fauts caused by scratches. 1.REFERENCES 1.1 Fiter a.
