A specia version of VEGAPULS 66 is avaiabe for each area of appication. The version with fange and horn antenna is particuary suitabe for measurement of iquids and soids under extremey difficut process conditions such as buidup, condensate and foam generation as we as vigorous product movement. With the version without antenna horn, the antenna system is formed in conjunction with a measuring tube (surge or bypass tube). This version is particuary suitabe for measurement of sovents and iquid gases. For pressures up to 160 bar (2320 psi) and temperatures up to 400 C (752 F), the graphite sea and the ceramic antenna cone are avaiabe. Functiona principe The antenna of the radar sensor emits short radar puses with a duration of approx. 1 ns. These puses are refected by the product and received by the antenna as echoes. The running time of the radar puses from emission to reception is 12 VEGAPULS 66 - Foundation Fiedbus

Product description proportiona to the distance and hence to the eve. The determined eve is converted into an appropriate output signa and outputted as measured vaue. Power suppy and bus communication DD/CFF Power is suppied via the H1 Fiedbus. A two-wire cabe according to Fiedbus specification serves as carrier of both power and digita data signas for mutipe sensors. This cabe can be operated in two versions: via an H1 interface card in the contro system and additiona power suppy via a inking device with HSE (High speed Ethernet) and additiona votage suppy according to IEC The DD (Device Descriptions) and CFF (capabiity fies) necessary for panning and configuration of your FF (Foundation Fiedbus) communication network are avaiabe in the downoad area of the VEGA homepage under "Services - Downoads - Software - Foundation Fiedbus". The appropriate certificates are aso avaiabe there. ACDwith the appropriate fies and certificates can be ordered via e-mai under info@de.vega.com or by phone from one of the VEGA agencies under the order number "DRIVER.S". The backight of the indicating and adjustment modue is powered by the sensor. Requirement is a certain height of the suppy votage. The data for power suppy are stated in chapter "Technica data" in the "Suppement". For instruments with nationa approvas such as e.g. according to FM and CSA, this function ony avaiabe at a ater date. The optiona heating requires its own power suppy. You can find further detais in the suppementary instructions manua "Heating for indicating and adjustment modue". This function is generay not avaiabe for approved instruments. 3.3 Operation VEGAPULS 66 can be adjusted with different adjustment media: with indicating and adjustment modue with the suitabe VEGA DTM in conjunction with an adjustment software according to the FDT/DTM standard, e.g. PACTware and PC VEGAPULS 66 - Foundation Fiedbus 13

Mounting 4 Mounting 4.1 Genera instructions Instaation position Moisture Seect an instaation position you can easiy reach for mounting and connecting as we as ater retrofitting of an indicating and adjustment modue. The housing can be rotated by 330 without the use of any toos. You can aso insta the indicating and adjustment modue in four different positions (each dispaced by 90 ). Use the recommended cabes (see chapter "Connecting to power suppy") and tighten the cabe gand. You can give your VEGAPULS 66 additiona protection against moisture penetration by eading the connection cabe downward in front of the cabe entry. Rain and condensation water can thus drain off. This appies mainy to mounting outdoors, in areas where moisture is expected (e.g. by ceaning processes) or on cooed or heated vesses. Fig. 2: Measures against moisture penetration Measuring range The reference pane for the measuring range is the ower edge of the fange or the sea surface of the thread. VEGAPULS 66 - Foundation Fiedbus 15

Mounting % 4 0% Fig. 3: Measuring range (operating range), max. measuring distance and reference pane 1 fu 2 empty (max. measuring distance) 3 Measuring range 4 Reference pane Information: If the medium reaches the antenna, buidup can form on it and cause fauty measurements ater on. Materias, wetted parts Make sure that the wetted parts of VEGAPULS 66, especiay the sea and process fitting, are suitabe for the existing process conditions such as pressure, temperature etc. as we as the chemica properties of the medium. You wi find specification in chapter "Technica data" in the "Suppement". Instaation position 4.2 Mounting instructions Mount VEGAPULS 66 at east 500 mm ( in) from the vesse wa. If the sensor is instaed in the center of vesses with dished or round tops, mutipe echoes can arise. These can, however, be suppressed by an appropriate adjustment (see "Setup"). If this distance cannot be maintained, a fase echo storage shoud be carried out during setup. This appies particuary if buidup on the vesse wa is expected. In such case, we recommend repeating the fase echo storage ater on with existing buidup. 16 VEGAPULS 66 - Foundation Fiedbus

Mounting 1 2 > 500 mm Fig. 4: Mounting on round vesse tops 1 Reference pane 2 Vesse center or symmetry axis In vesses with conica bottom it can be advantageous to mount the sensor in the center of the vesse, as measurement is then possibe down to the owest point of the vesse bottom. Fig. 5: Vesse with conica bottom Infowing medium Do not mount the instruments in or above the fiing stream. Make sure that you detect the product surface and not the infowing product. VEGAPULS 66 - Foundation Fiedbus 17

Mounting Fig. 6: Infowing iquid Socket Socket pieces shoud be dimensioned such that the antenna end protrudes at east 10 mm (0.4 in) out of the socket. ca. 10 mm Fig. 7: Recommended socket mounting If the socket height cannot be maintained, an antenna extension wi be necessary. This prevents from fase refections of the socket piece. 18 VEGAPULS 66 - Foundation Fiedbus

Mounting ca. 10 mm Fig. 8: Tube extension Tip: VEGAPULS 66 is optionay aso avaiabe with antenna extension. Hence the antenna ength can be seected such that the antenna end protrudes 10 mm (0.4 in) out of the socket. Sensor orientation In iquids, direct the sensor as perpendicuar as possibe to the product surface to achieve an optimum measurement. Fig. 9: Orientation in iquids Vesse instaations The mounting ocation of the radar sensor shoud be a pace where no other equipment or fixtures cross the path of the microwave signas. Vesse instaations such as, for exampe, adders, imit switches, heating spiras, struts, etc. can cause fase echoes that get superimposed on the usefu echo. Make sure when panning your measuring site that the radar sensor has a "cear view" to the measured product. If there are existing vesse instaations, a fase echo storage shoud be carried out during setup. VEGAPULS 66 - Foundation Fiedbus 19

Mounting If arge vesse instaations such as struts or supports cause fase echoes, these can be attenuated through suppementary measures. Sma, incined sheet meta baffes above the instaations scatter the radar signas and prevent direct interfering refections. Fig. 10: Cover smooth profies with defectors Agitators If there are agitators in the vesse, a fase echo storage shoud be carried out with the agitators in motion. This ensures that the interfering refections from the agitators are saved with the bades in different positions. Foam generation Fig. 11: Agitators Through the action of fiing, stirring and other processes in the vesse, dense foams which consideraby damp the emitted signas may form on the product surface. If foams are causing measurement errors, the biggest possibe radar antenna shoud be used. 20 VEGAPULS 66 - Foundation Fiedbus

Mounting VEGAFLEX sensors with guided microwaves are not infuenced by foam generation and are particuary suitabe for such appications. Measurement in the standpipe (surge or bypass tube) By using a standpipe, the infuence of vesse instaations and turbuence can be excuded. Under these prerequisites, the measurement of products with ow dieectric vaues (from DK vaue 1.6) is possibe. Note: Measurement in a standpipe is not recommended for very adhesive products. Surge or bypass tubes must extend a the way down to the requested min. eve, as measurement is ony possibe within the tube. Surge pipe Make sure you provide the necessary upper vent hoe in the surge pipe. The hoe must be aigned so that it and the poarisation marking on the sensor fange are in the same pane (see iustration: "Pipe antenna system in a tank"). max. 1 2 min. Fig. 12: Pipe antenna system in a tank. The vent hoe in the surge pipe must be in one pane with the poarisation marking on the sensor. 1 Marking of the poarisation direction 2 Vent hode max. ø 5 mm (0.2 in) VEGAPULS 66 - Foundation Fiedbus 21

Mounting If possibe, the diameter of the sensor antenna shoud correspond to the inner diameter of the tube. With VEGAPULS 66 this is approx. 50 mm (1.969 in) depending on the antenna. The sensor can be used with tube diameters between mm ( in). Bypass tube As an aternative to the surge pipe in the vesse, a pipe system can be mounted outside of the vesse as a bypass tube. For setup, seect the function "Bypass tube". Aign the sensor in such a way that the poarisation marking on the sensor fange is in the same pane as the tube hoes or the tube connection openings (see iustration: "VEGAPULS in a bypass tube"). 100% > 500 mm 1 0% Fig. 13: VEGAPULS 66 in a bypass tube. The poarisation marking on the process fitting must be in one pane to the tube hoes or the tube connection openings. 1 Marking of the poarisation direction When the sensor is mounted on a bypass tube, the distance from VEGAPULS 66 to the upper tube connection shoud be approx. 500 mm ( in) or more. In case of extremey rough tube inner was, you shoud use an inserted tube (tube in tube) or a radar sensor with tube antenna. Information: With VEGAPULS 66 in fange version, the poarisation eve is aways in the center between two fange hoes. 22 VEGAPULS 66 - Foundation Fiedbus

Connecting to votage suppy 5 Connecting to votage suppy 5.1 Preparing the connection Note safety instructions Take note of safety instructions for Ex appications Seect power suppy Seecting connection cabe Cabe gand ½ NPT Generay note the foowing safety instructions: Connect ony in the compete absence of ine votage If overvotage surges are expected, overvotage arresters shoud be instaed according to Foundation Fiedbus specification In hazardous areas you shoud take note of the appropriate reguations, conformity and type approva certificates of the sensors and power suppy units. VEGAPULS 66 requires a suppy votage of 9 32 VDC. Power and the digita bus signa are carried on the same twowire connection cabe. Power is suppied via the H1 power suppy. VEGAPULS 66 is connected with screened cabe according to Fiedbus specification. A cabe diameter of 5 9 mm ensures the sea effect of the cabe gand. Make sure that the entire instaation is carried out according to the Fiedbus specification. In particuar, make sure that the termination of the bus is done with appropriate terminating resistors. On VEGAPULS 66 with cabe gand ½ NPT and pastic housing, a meta ½" threaded insert is mouded in the pastic housing. Caution: No grease shoud be used when screwing the NPT cabe gand or stee tube into the threaded insert. Standard grease can contain additives affecting the connection between threaded insert and housing. This wi infuence the stabiity of the connection and the tightness of the housing. Cabe screening and grounding In systems with potentia equaisation, connect the cabe screen directy to ground potentia at the power suppy unit, in the connection box and at the sensor. The screen in the sensor must be connected directy to the interna ground termina. The ground termina outside on the housing must be connected to the potentia equaisation (ow impedance). VEGAPULS 66 - Foundation Fiedbus 23

Connecting to votage suppy In systems without potentia equaisation, connect the cabe screen directy to ground potentia at the power suppy unit and at the sensor. In the connection box or T-distributor, the screen of the short stub to the sensor must not be connected to ground potentia or to another cabe screen. The cabe screens to the power suppy unit and to the next distributor must be connected to each other and aso connected to ground potentia via a ceramic capacitor (e.g. 1 nf, 1500 V). The ow frequency potentia equaisation currents are thus suppressed, but the protective effect against high frequency interference signas remains. The tota capacitance of the cabe and of a capacitors must not exceed 10 nf in Ex appications. Seect connection cabe for Ex appications Take note of the corresponding instaation reguations for Ex appications. In particuar, make sure that no potentia equaisation currents fow over the cabe screen. In case of grounding on both sides this can be achieved by the use of a capacitor or a separate potentia equaisation. 5.2 Connection steps, instrument housing Proceed as foows: 1 Unscrew the housing cover 2 If an indicating and adjustment modue is instaed, remove it by turning it sighty to the eft. 3 Loosen compression nut of the cabe entry 4 Remove approx. 10 cm (4 in) of the cabe mante, strip approx. 1 cm (0.4 in) insuation from the ends of the individua wires 5 Insert the cabe into the sensor through the cabe entry 6 Lift the opening evers of the terminas with a screwdriver (see foowing iustration) 7 Insert the wire ends into the open terminas according to the wiring pan 24 VEGAPULS 66 - Foundation Fiedbus

Setup with the indicating and adjustment modue PLICSCOM 6.4 Setup procedure Parameter adjustment As VEGAPULS 66 is a distance measuring instrument, the distance from the sensor to the product surface is measured. To have the rea product eve dispayed, an aocation of the measured distance to the percentage height must be made. To carry out this adjustment, the distance is entered with fu and empty vesse. If these vaues are not known, an adjustment with the distance vaues, e.g. 10 % and 90 % is aso possibe. Starting point for these distance specifications is aways the sea surface of the thread or fange. With these settings, the rea eve is cacuated. Furthermore the operating range of the sensor is imited from maximum to the required range. The rea product eve during this adjustment is not important, because the min./max. adjustment is aways carried out without changing the product eve. These settings can be made ahead of time without the instrument having to be instaed. Caution: If there is a separation of iquids with different dieectric vaues in the vesse, e.g. by condensation, VEGAPULS 66 can detect under certain circumstances ony the medium with the higher dieectric vaue. Keep in mind that interfaces can cause fauty measurements. If you want to measure the tota height of both iquids reiaby, pease contact our service department or use an instrument speciay designed for interface measurement. In the main menu item "Basic adjustment", the individua submenu items shoud be seected one after the other and provided with the correct parameter vaues. Start your parameter adjustment with the foowing menu items of the basic adjustment: Carrying out min. adjustment Proceed as foows: 1 Move from the measured vaue dispay to the main menu by pushing [OK]. Set the requested percentage vaue with [+] and save with [OK]. The cursor jumps now to the distance vaue. 4 Enter the appropriate distance vaue in m (corresponding to the percentage vaue) for the empty vesse (e.g. distance from the sensor to the vesse bottom). 5 Save the settings with [OK] and move to "Max. adjustment" with [->]. Proceed as foows: Min. adjustment % = 1,000 m(d) 2,000 m(d) Medium seection 1 Prepare the % vaue for editing with [OK] and set the cursor to the requested position with [->]. Set the requested percentage vaue with [+] and save with [OK]. The cursor jumps now to the distance vaue. 2 Enter the appropriate distance vaue in m (corresponding to the percentage vaue) for the fu vesse. Keep in mind that the max. eve must ie beow the dead band. 3 Save the settings with [OK] and move to "Medium seection" with [->]. Each product has different refective properties. In soids, these are dust generation, materia cones and additiona echoes caused by the vesse wa. Due to the medium seection, the sensor is adapted in an optimum way to the product and the accuracy, particuary for products with bad refective properties, is increased consideraby. 36 VEGAPULS 66 - Foundation Fiedbus

Setup with the indicating and adjustment modue PLICSCOM Medium Soid With soids, you can aso choose between "Powder/Dust", "Granuar/Peets" or "Baast/Pebbes". In iquids, fuctuating surfaces and foam generation are further interfering factors. To adapt the sensor to the different conditions, a genera seection is made in this menu item, i.e. "Soid" or "Liquid". Enter the requested parameter via the appropriate keys, save your settings and jump to the next menu item with the [->] key. Vesse form Apart from the medium, the vesse shape can aso infuence the measurement. To adapt the sensor to these measuring conditions, this menu item offers different options depending on whether iquid or soid is seected. With "Soid" these are "Sio" or "Bunker", with "Liquid", "Storage tank", "Stiing tube", "Open vesse" or "Stirred vesse". Vesse form Sio Enter the requested parameter via the appropriate keys, save your settings and jump to the next menu item with the [->] key. Linearisation curve A inearization is necessary for a vesses in which the vesse voume does not increase ineary with the eve - e.g. with a cyindrica or spherica tank - and the indication or output of the voume is required. Corresponding inearization curves are preprogrammed for these vesses. They represent the correation between the eve percentage and vesse voume. By activating the appropriate curve, the voume percentage of the vesse is dispayed correcty. If the voume shoud not be dispayed in percent but e.g. in or kg, a scaing can be aso set in the menu item "Dispay". Linearisation curve inear VEGAPULS 66 - Foundation Fiedbus 37

Setup with the indicating and adjustment modue PLICSCOM Enter the requested parameter via the appropriate keys, save your settings and jump to the next menu item with the [->] key. Gating out of fase signas High sockets or vesse instaations, such as e.g. struts or agitators as we as buidup and wed joints on the vesse was cause interfering refections which can impair the measurement. A fase echo storage detects and marks these fase echoes, so that they are no onger taken into account for the eve measurement. A fase echo memory shoud be created with empty vesse so that a potentia interfering refections wi be detected. Gating out of fase signas Change now? Proceed as foows: 1 Move from the measured vaue dispay to the main menu by pushing [OK]. 2 Seect the menu item "Service" with [->] and confirm with [OK]. Now the menu item "Fase signa suppression" is dispayed. 3 Confirm "Fase signa suppression - Change now" with [OK] and seect in the beow menu "Create new". Enter the actua distance from the sensor to the product surface. A fase signas in this area are detected by the sensor and saved after confirming with [OK]. Note: Check the distance to the product surface, because if an incorrect (too arge) vaue is entered, the existing eve wi be saved as fase signa. The fiing eve woud then no onger be detectabe in this area. Extended setting/quick eve change The menu item "Extended setting" offers the possibiity to optimise VEGAPULS 66 for appications in which the eve changes very quicky. For this reason, seect the function "Quick eve change >1m/min.". Extended setting None 38 VEGAPULS 66 - Foundation Fiedbus

Setup with the indicating and adjustment modue PLICSCOM Note: Because the average vaue generation of the signa processing is ceary reduced with the function "Quick eve change >1m/min.", fase refections caused by agitators or vesse instaations can cause measured vaue fuctuations. A fase echo storage is recommended.
