Product description 3.2 Principe of operation Area of appication Functiona principe The conductive VEGAKON 66 compact eve switches detect eves of conductive iquids. If at east two eectrodes are covered with a conductive medium, sma aternating currents (<1 ma) fow from the measuring eectrode to the ground eectrode Suppy Fig. 2: Functiona principe 1 Ground probe 2 Max. eve (max. eectrode) 3 Min. eve (min. eectrode) These aternating currents are measured in respect to their ampitude and phase position and converted into a switching command. VEGAKON 66 can be used for reiabe detection of products over a very wide conductivity and viscosity range. A eve detection can be reaised with two measuring eectrodes, e.g. a pump or two-point contro with three measuring eectrodes. VEGAKON 66 is a compact instrument, i.e. it can be operated without externa evauation system. The integrated eectronics evauates the eve signa and outputs a switching signa. With this switching signa, a connected device can be operated directy (e.g. a warning system, a PLC, a pump etc.). The data for power suppy are stated in chapter "Technica data" in the "Suppement". 8 VEGAKON 66 - with transistor output
Product description 3.3 Operation The VEGAKON 66 is a compact eve switch with integrated osciator. On the eectronics modue you wi find the foowing indicating and adjustment eements: Contro amp for indication of the switching condition Mode changeover for seection of the output signa DIL switch for adjustment of the integration time Rotary switch for adjustment of the conductivity vaue 3.4 Storage and transport Packaging Storage and transport temperature Your instrument was protected by packaging during transport. Its capacity to hande norma oads during transport is assured by a test according to DIN EN The packaging of standard instruments consists of environment-friendy, recycabe cardboard. In addition, the sensor is provided with a protective cover of cardboard. For specia versions PE foam or PE foi is aso used. Dispose of the packaging materia via speciaised recycing companies. 10 Mounting 4 Mounting 4.1 Genera instructions Moisture Use the recommended cabes (see chapter "Connecting to power suppy") and tighten the cabe gand. You can give your VEGAKON 66 additiona protection against moisture penetration by eading the connection cabe downward in front of the cabe entry. Rain and condensation water can thus drain off. This appies mainy to mounting outdoors, in areas where moisture is expected (e.g. by ceaning processes) or on cooed or heated vesses. Fig. 3: Measures against moisture penetration Pressure/Vacuum The process fitting must be seaed if there is gauge or ow pressure in the vesse. Before use, check if the sea materia is resistant against the measured product and the process temperature. The max. permissibe pressure is stated in chapter "Technica data" in the "Suppement" or on the type abe of the sensor. Agitators 4.2 Mounting information Due to agitators, equipment vibration or simiar, the probe can be subjected to strong atera forces. During operation, the probe must not touch any instaations or the vesse wa. If necessary, secure the end of the probe (insuated). Provide a suitabe insuated support directy above the probe end. 10 VEGAKON 66 - with transistor output

Connecting to power suppy 5 Connecting to power suppy 5.1 Preparing the connection Note safety instructions Seect power suppy Seecting connection cabe Aways keep in mind the foowing safety instructions: Connect ony in the compete absence of ine votage Connect the power suppy according to the foowing diagrams. Osciator KONE60T is designed in protection cass 1. To maintain this protection cass, it is absoutey necessary that the ground conductor is connected to the interna ground termina. Take note of the genera instaation reguations. As a rue, connect VEGAKON 66 to vesse ground (PA), or in case of pastic vesses, to the next ground potentia. On the side of the housing there is a ground termina between the cabe entries. This connection serves to drain off eectrostatic charges. The data for power suppy are stated in chapter "Technica data" in the "Suppement". VEGAKON 66 is connected with standard cabe with round cross section. An outer cabe diameter of 5 9 mm ( in) ensures the sea effect of the cabe gand. If cabe with a different diameter or wire cross section is used, exchange the sea or use an appropriate cabe connection. 5.2 Connection instructions Danger: Switch off power suppy before starting connection work. Connect mains votage according to the connection diagrams. 5.3 Wiring pan Foating transistor output + - Fig. 5: Transistor output VEGAKON 66 - with transistor output

To adjust VEGAKON 66 oosen the four screws with a wrench on the upper side of the instrument and remove the housing cover. 14 VEGAKON 66 - with transistor output
Set up Rotary switch: Adjustment of the conductivity vaue (3) Seection switch: Integration time (4) Mode adjustment (5) Tensie proving ring (7) With the rotary switch you can set the sensitivity of the instrument. Position 0.1 kω is the ess sensitive and switch position 300 kω the most sensitive one, see chart "Switching point adjustment". There are three switches on the DIL switch bock by which you can adjust the switching on and off deay. Thus prevents, e.g. the instrument from permanent switching if the eve is within the imits. With the switches (2 s, 6 s, 12 s) you can set the integration time respectivey in the range of 0 to 20 seconds. The times of the activated timers add up. If e.g. the switches 2 s and 12 s are activated, the integration time wi be 14 s. With the mode adjustment (A/B) you can change the switching condition of the output. You can set the required mode according to the "Function chart" (A - max. detection or overfi protection, B - min. detection or dry run protection). Loosen the hoding screws of the eectronics modue. Fod the tensie proving ring upward. With the tensie proving ring you can pu the eectronics modue out of the instrument housing. 6.3 Switching point adjustment Rotary switch position Switching point at approx. 1 cm covering. In case of verticay mounted instruments, the response height is determined by the ength of the probe rods. The modification of the response height by turning the conductivity vaue switch is not usefu. To adapt the response height, you can shorten the measuring rods by sawing them off. Before shortening, unscrew the rods out of the pastic threaded part of the sensor to avoid damaging the probe. The numbers of the rods are visibe on the ower side of the thread. The ground rod (no. 1) must have the same ength or must even be onger than the ongest of the other rods. The max. rod (no. 2) defines the response height with singe point eve switches or the upper switching eve with two-point contro. It is the shortest rod. The min. rod (no. 3) defines the ower switching eve, it must hence be onger than the max. rod. It is not avaiabe with instruments for singe point eve detection. The eectronics recognises if a min. rod is screwed in and changes automaticay from singe to two-point contro. Standard setting For products with a good conductivity (>3 ms), set the rotary switch - cnductivity setting (3) generay to switch position 3 kω. Hence the instrument is aready competey adjusted. Take note of the instructions in chart "Exampes of conductivity vaues". The recommended settings take aso infuences such as e.g. condensation or sight buidup into account. 16 VEGAKON 66 - with transistor output
Set up If there is danger of strong buidup or condensation, you can set the instrument more insensitive by one rotary switch position. The "Function chart" shows how to seect the switching condition of the output. Exampe: An emptying pump is switched on when the max. signa is reached, empties the vesses unti min. signa is reached and is then switched off. In case of severa measurement oops (same medium), the adjustment of one instrument with medium is sufficient. The determined switch position can be transferred to a other instruments. When the conductivity vaue is known, the switching point adjustment can be carried out according to the setup in chart "Rotary switch adjustment". When exchanging the eectronics modue, it is sufficient to take over the setting of the od eectronics modue. 6.4 Function chart The foowing chart provides an overview of the switching conditions depending on the adjusted mode and eve. 18 VEGAKON 66 - with transistor output
