1 REP Design LLC Suthingtn, CT (860) INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS: BKT-NissanTrac Mdels 1-4 Slide In Antenna Munts fr Nissan Pickups with "Utility Track" Thank yu fr yur purchase; we appreciate yur business and interest in ur prducts. These instructins describe hw t install the BKT-NissanTrac Mdels 1-4, ( BKT ) antenna munts which slide int the factry left r right "utility track" n Nissan Frntier and Titan pickup trucks, withut drilling. The BKT will nt fit the frnt bed track f either truck as the factry utility track is nt deep enugh t fit the thick BKT slide-in track plate. The mdel variatins depend n which mdel f truck yu have (e.g. Frntier requires a spacer plate) and what type f antenna yu want t install, frm small HF/V/UHF mbile t medium/larger HF screwdriver/mtrized antennas. Mdels 1 (Titan) & 2 (Frntier): Cme with a flat munting plate fr ptinal munts t fit mst types f small t medium HF, and small t large VHF/UHF antennas, including amateur radi, CB, GMRS and cmmercial types. The tw ptinal antenna munts blt t the flat munting plate, and include: (1) L bracket (AMB-Bkt-1) fr V/UHF t small HF antennas, and (2) adjustable universal fit munt (UHAM-200) with tw pints f supprt fr HF screwdriver/mtrized antennas up t 2 inches in diameter at the base. These ptinal munts are shwn n pages 2-3. Mdels 3 (Titan) & 4 (Frntier): Fit medium and larger HF screwdriver and mtrized antennas and the largest mbile V/UHF antennas that munt int a ¾ inch hle and d nt require a secnd pint f supprt. N additinal munt is needed as these mdels include a heavy-duty L bracket that is ½ inch thick and 4 inches wide. The illustratins belw shw the differences between the fur mdels. See pages 2-4 fr details, installatins n pg. 10. Specificatins Material f cnstructin: 6061 T-6 aluminum. Hardware: 18-8 stainless steel with 3/8 inch blts, ¼ inch blt fr grunding/shunt100 munting. Finishes: Standard hand buffed aluminum. Optinal pwder cat finishes - black, red, white, blue and clear cat. Cmpatible antennas (see detailed lists f antennas n pages 2-4): Mdels 1 & 2 require an ptinal munt that blts t the backing plate n Mdels 1 & 2: AMB-Bkt-1: small t medium/large V/UHF mbile and small HF. If yu d nt feel that yu have the ability t safely install the BKT t yur vehicle and antenna, please cntact us if yu wuld like t return it (within the first tw weeks, see Warranty fr details). As with any antenna installatin, be careful arund thunderstrms and lightning, and yu may want t remve yur antenna r discnnect the cax BEFORE a strm appears - remember that if yu can hear thunder yu can be struck by lightning. Be sure that yur antenna cannt cme int cntact with pwer wires especially if using lnger whips. It is the user's respnsibility t install a safe antenna and t ensure that the munt and the Nissan utility track can safely supprt their antenna. These instructins are meant t prvide general guidelines but cannt prvide all f the details n hw t safely install yur munt and antenna, as each installatin is unique. Safety is always jb ne, perfrmance is the next pririty. Mdel Descriptins & Optins The fllwing is a descriptin f the BKT mdels and varius ptins that are available. Pwder cated finishes have critical grund pints masked ff fr bare metal t bare metal cntact. (a) Mdels 1 (Titan) & 2 (Frntier) used with ptinal munts fr HF/V/UHF Mbile Antennas. Mdels 1 & 2 features. Bth include a flat antenna munting backing plate that blts t the "track plate" fr attaching ne f tw ptinal munts fr yur type f antenna. The left illustratin shws the cmpnents f Mdels 1 and 2 and hw the munts are attached. The right pht is a side view f Mdel 1 (Mdel 2 includes a spacer fr Frntier s the BKT is beynd the plastic trim). One blt attaches it t the BKT right side up r upside dwn prvides height adjustment and antenna can be tilted via the single munting blt. Three phts belw shw this munt with ur antenna bases. Cmpatible antennas include: Small t large VHF/UHF mbile antennas, including GMRS and cmmercial mdels. Small t medium HF antennas including hamsticks, Outbacker, Hustler lading cil, small screw driver antennas (e.g. Yaesu ATAS 100/120, High Sierra "Sidekick", small Tarheel mdels) and CB (11m) antennas. Mdels 3 and 4 include a super heavy-duty (SHD) L bracket fr munting large HF/V/UHF antennas, including larger screwdriver and mtrized antennas, that can munt int a ¾ inch hle with a panel thickness f ½ inch. 4 largest antenna that the Nissan utility track can supprt. The L n bth mdels has tw rws f hles and it can be munted upside dwn r right side up allws fr antenna height adjustment range f 8-9 inches! There are NO ther munts required but we d ffer ther ptins (see belw). Our ptinal antenna bases are cmpatible if hardware is nt prvided with yur antenna: AntMtgKit_1-3/4 with 3/8x24 blt and tw insulating wafers, NMO and SO239. The illustratin belw shws what yu get, the dimensins, key features and hle layut. The fllwing phts shw a Mdel 4 n a Nissan Frntier with the spacer. The left pht shws the highest height setting and the middle pht shws the lwest height setting. The right pht shws a Hi Q Antennas HF mtrized antenna. Mdel 3 is the same except there is n spacer required fr Titan. Mdels 3 & 4 ptins. The fllwing ptins are available fr BKT Mdels 3 and 4. N ptinal munts are needed. Antenna bases fr Mdels 3 & 4: AntMtgKit_1-3/4 with stainless steel 3/8x24 blt/washers and tw (2) 2-inch diameter insulating wafers, NMO and SO239. All will fit the panel thickness f ½ inch. SHD-SO239-LA2.0 & L bracket adapter with SO239 cnnectr: Nrmally the antenna munts t the BKT using the base blt and insulating wafers with the cax cnnected t the antenna with slder lugs (nte: Scrpin antennas d NOT require any insulating wafers). What Yu Need t Install the "BKT": N special tls are required fr any BKT mdel. A cmmn wrench is needed t tighten the 1/4 and 3/8 inch blts. Yur Nissan Titan r Frntier must have Nissan s factry utility track. The BKT autmatically grunds t the aluminum utility track but yu may have t prvide additinal grund cables frm this track t the bed and bdy f the truck if the utility track is nt autmatically grunded t the bed n yur vehicle simply check with a vlt-hm meter (acceptable reading is hms) Installatin & Maintenance (Mdels 1-4) The fllwing prcedures are fr ALL MODELS; specific instructins are nted by mdel if there are differences. (1) FIRST, READ ALL OF THESE INSTRUCTIONS befre yu munt anything, t help ensure that yur selected munting lcatin is the best ne fr yur installatin and yu understand the installatin steps. (2) Cnsideratins fr Munting the BKT t Yur Truck Bed Factry "Utility Track". The BKT slides int the factry utility track n the left r right bed walls. It will nt fit the frnt bed track, as this track is nt deep enugh fr ur heavy-duty "track plate". Sme cnsideratins fr selecting a munting lcatin include, but are nt limited t, the fllwing. Always cnsider SAFETY FIRST! The driver's side is best fr munting as there is a slightly less chance that yu will hit smething like an verhanging branch alng the side f the rad. Als, yu may be able t see the antenna better and can remve it easier. Sme peratrs claim the rear f the side bed wall is best and generally it is best t keep the antenna a distance frm the cab which can partially blck the signal and may affect the tuning f HF antennas. Determine hw high ff the grund yur antenna shuld be, as sme f the BKTs allw sme height adjustment and sme antennas allw the use f different length whips. In the United States the maximum height yur antenna can be is 13 ft - 6 inches fr the interstate highways, but it is imprtant t nte that sme bridges and bstructins are much lwer. Als, take int cnsideratin whether yu will garage yur vehicle at hme r park in a parking garage (sme have vehicle height limits that can be 6 ft., 9 inches). The BKTs can be adjusted as fllws: Mdels 1 & 2 - the height is adjustable by a few inches with the AMB-Bkt-1 but NOT with the UHAM-200. Mdels 3 & 4 - the height is adjustable by fur levels, prviding 8-9 inches f munting height range. DO CONSIDER SAFETY when deciding hw t install yur antenna s it can withstand the wind and driving lads, and if yu peridically need t remve yur antenna, hw yu can safely d this near traffic! Be sure that whatever antenna bracket yu use can safely supprt yur antenna and that the Nissan utility track is strng Instructins: BKT-NissanTrac-(1-4) Page 5 f 10 Versin:

6 enugh if yu are using a large antenna - it is the user's respnsibility t install a safe antenna and t ensure that the munt and the Nissan utility track can safely supprt their antenna. Read the SAFETY FIRST sectin n page 1. If yu need t peridically remve yur antenna it is suggested that yu use a quick discnnect (if using a base blt t munt yur antenna) at the base f yur antenna and, if using a screwdriver r mtrized HF antenna, a cnnectr n yur antenna mtr / turns cunter wires (e.g. 4 cnductr trailer lights cnnectrs wrk well). Cnsider hw yu will grund yur antenna. The Nissan utility track that the BKT slides int must be grunded t the bed wall (check with hm meter fr hms), and if nt yu will need t run grund cable(s) frm the track t bed grund at bth ends f the track and als in the middle. Yu may als need t grund the bed t the frame and cab. If yu have engine nise in yur radi, yu may als need t grund the exhaust system, etc. Grunding is ne f the mst imprtant cnsideratins fr successful HF antenna installatins! There is extensive reference material by ARRL and thers n this subject, and ne very useful web site is (3) Munting the BKT Track Plate t the Nissan Factry "Utility Track". The fllwing steps are fr ALL BKT MODELS - if there are any differences they are nted by mdel number. The illustratin belw is a Quick Start Guide t installing the BKT s track plate. FIRST, check t be sure that all blts n the Nissan utility track are tight. We designed the BKT t be as strng as pssible, s there is a tight clearance between the track plate blt heads and the blt heads n the utility track. Please nte that the raised letters have been grund ff the track plate blt heads in rder t make it a little easier t slide the track plate alng the Nissan utility track. If yu encunter a tight fit, yu can use a file r grinding wheel t further remve a thin layer f stainless steel n the blt heads, but this is prbably nt necessary. Yu can als wiggle the track plate blts when sliding past the factry track blts. Install the tw r three blts (see ntes belw fr each mdel) int the "track plate", withut any washers under the blt heads - SEE THE ILLUSTRATION ABOVE. Be sure that the RUBBER STRIP n the BKT "track plate" is POINTING DOWN, as this vertically centers the "track plate" n the Nissan utility track fr maximum supprt. The ends f the blts will stick ut f the factry track, but DO NOT YET install the antenna backing plate r L bracket, nuts r washers (easier t slide withut any brackets attached). Slip the track plate and blts int the truck bed track, t the lcatin yu selected in Step (2) abve. Mdel 1 (Titan) & Mdel 2 (Frntier) - install the tw (2) blts int the tw uter hles in the track plate and a THIRD blt (lnger blt) if installing a UHAM200 munt the lnger blt fits int the MIDDLE HOLE f the track plate and bttm UHAM hle. 7 Mdel 3 (Titan) & Mdel 4 (Frntier) - all have three (3) blts that g int the BKT "track plate" as these are used t munt the SHD "L" bracket (all three blts are the same length n these mdels). Once the track plate is slid t the desired antenna lcatin, lsely install the ther parts, in THIS ORDER. If installing any ptinal munts r ther ptins FIRST see Step 4 belw fr additinal details. On the blts sticking ut f the track plate, install the fllwing in this rder: Mdel 1 (Titan) - antenna munting plate, UHAM-200 (if purchased), and n each blt a flat washer, lck washer, nut. If installing the AMB-Bkt-1 r ther ptins, install these later in Step (4) belw. Mdel 2 (Frntier) - spacer, antenna munting plate, UHAM-200 (if purchased), and n each blt a flat washer, lck washer, nut. If installing the AMB-Bkt-1 r ther ptins, install these later in Step (4). Mdels 1 & 2 if installing the ptinal UHAM-200 munt - lsely munt the UHAM-200 with anther (shrter) blt in the upper backing plate hle and upper UHAM hle (the lnger UHAM blt sticking ut f the track plate is installed in the lwer UHAM hle). Place a flat washer n bth sides f the aluminum parts and a lck washer under the nut. DO NOT TIGHTEN YET. Mdel 3 (Titan) - SHD "L" bracket and n each blt a flat washer, lck washer, nut - FIRST decide which f the tw rws with three hles yu will use and whether the L will be munted upside dwn r right side up t adjust yur antenna height. Mdel 4 (Frntier) - spacer, SHD "L" bracket and n each blt a flat washer, lck washer, nut - FIRST decide which f the tw rws with three hles yu will use and whether the L will be munted upside dwn r right side up t adjust yur antenna height. Befre tightening the nuts, adjust the BKT bracket/munt and spacer (Frntier pickups nly) s they are centered n the utility track, hrizntally and vertically. The hles are drilled slightly larger than the blts t allw fr a small amunt f adjustment. FOR POWDER COATED BKT's: Hles that prvide a grund path frm the antenna base t the Nissan utility track are masked ff during pwder cating t ensure an excellent metal t metal grund! SECURELY TIGHTEN THE NUTS. Yu may need t slip a wrench r screwdriver against the blt heads inside the utility track t keep them frm rtating while tightening the nuts. Yu can als use an pen ended wrench n the nuts and hld the ends f the blt threads with a pliers if the blts turn when tightening the nuts - be careful nt t damage the blt threads. (4) Munting OPTIONS n the BKT This step describes hw t install the ptinal munts (Mdels 1 & 2 nly) and ther ptins (all Mdels). Detailed instructins fr ur prducts are available n ur DOWNLOADS page, click n MANUALS t view r dwnlad any f ur prduct installatin instructins. All f ur cmpatible ptins are listed n pages 2-5. Mdels 1 & 2 antenna munts. One f ur tw ptinal antenna munts is required, r yu can fabricate yur wn "L" type bracket. Be sure that it is the apprpriate munt fr yur antenna, and can supprt the weight and wind lad f yur antenna. Our tw antenna munts fr the BKT are as fllws: AMB-Bkt-1"L" bracket fr small t medium amateur, cmmercial and CB antennas: This "L" bracket blts frm either f its tw munting hles (the ther hle is nt used fr the BKT) t the BKT with ne (1) prvided 3/8" stainless steel blt placed in the upper hle in the BKT antenna munting plate. Use flat washers n bth sides and the lck washer is placed under the nut. Hw yu munt the L bracket will prvide a few inches f antenna height variatin, by selecting which f the tw hles in the L t blt t the BKT and whether yu blt the L upside dwn r right side up. The L can als be munted pinting left r right (depending n which hle yu use) and it can be tilted via the ne munting blt. Install an antenna base r antenna hardware int the 3/4" diameter hle we can prvide 3/8x24 stud, NMO and SO239 bases. Fllw the additinal instructins with the AMB-Bkt-1. UHAM-200 universal-fit tw pints f supprt munt fr medium t large HF screwdriver / mtrized antennas (antenna base diameter t 2"): Tw (2) 3/8" blts fasten the UHAM t the BKT flat munting Instructins: BKT-NissanTrac-(1-4) Page 7 f 10 Versin:

8 plate. These blts were installed in Step 3. Center the UHAM and then tighten ALL OF THE BOLTS n the BKT and UHAM. Fllw the instructins prvided with the UHAM-200. (5) Mdels 1 & 2 ther ptins. The fllwing ptins can be installed nw. See instructins that cme with these. SHUNT100 - blts t the ¼ inch grund blt n tp f the AMB-Bkt-1 r t the ¼ inch side blt n the UHAM-200. SHD-SO239-LA2.0 - munts t the bttm f the UHAM200 (nt cmpatible with the AMB-Bkt-1) with the antenna s hardware. Mdels 3 & 4 ptins. NO ADDITIONAL antenna munts are needed, as these mdels cme with a SHD "L" bracket fr medium t large antennas, including HF screwdriver / mtrized antennas. Install any ptins nw: SHUNT100 - blts t the ¼ inch blt near the antenna munting hle. SHD-SO239-LA2.0 - munts t the bttm f the SHD L with the antenna s hardware. Antenna bases install ne f ur bases (AntMtgKit_1-3/4, NMO, SO239) if yur antenna des nt cme with cmpatible hardware. All f ur bases munt int the ¾ inch hle in many f ur prducts. Munting Yur Antenna n the BKT Fllw yur antenna manufacturer's instructins and use the hardware that came with yur antenna r ne f ur antenna bases / munting hardware kits. If yur antenna requires a base blt, r yu use yur wn antenna base, be sure that it is lng enugh fr a ½ inch thick munt. If yu are nt sure, call r us. If using ur SHD-SO239-LA2.0, this is installed with yur antenna base blt munting hardware. Mst antennas need t be insulated frm the munt (e.g. all V/UHF, and HF antennas frm Hi Q Antennas, High Sierra, Tarheel, etc.). Our bases prvide this feature. If yur antenna munts with a base blt r stud, yu need t use insulating wafers n bth sides f the BKT (ur AntMtgKit s include a pair f insulating wafers and hardware). Sme HF antennas (e.g. Scrpin Antennas) are designed t have the antenna base blt grunded and this must NOT be insulated frm the munt. The Scrpin antennas munt directly t ur BKT Mdels 3 & 4 withut a base. (6) General Suggestins fr Cnnecting Cables and a Grund t Yur Antenna The prvided ¼ inch blt with slder lug n the BKT r ptinal munts is fr grunding yur cax, if needed. Yu will need t prvide the cax and related parts/cables t cnnect yur antenna, and if installing a mtrized / screwdriver antenna, t yur cntrller r manual up/dwn switch. Sme basic cnsideratins are prvided belw but d nt cver every detail yu may need t get yur antenna wrking. There are sme gd web sites and bks by the ARRL and thers that prvide detailed infrmatin n installing HF antennas. Cax cnnectin. Generally, RG-58 size cax wrks fine in mbile installatins where the length f the cax is typically less than 25 feet, especially if yu run under abut 300 watts. Be sure t use gd quality, highly shielded cax (at least 95% shielded). Times Micrwave, and thers, make 100% shielded RG58 size cax (e.g. LMR-200). Grund cnnectin. This may be the mst imprtant cnnectin t get yur HF antenna wrking n all bands! The BKT is autmatically grunded t the factry "utility track", but yu must ensure that the track is well grunded t yur truck bdy and frame. Yu may need t install additinal grund cables t the BKT and between yur track/bed/frame. Pwder cated "BKT's" have the area arund the munting hles masked ff s the munting blts make gd cntact with bare aluminum n the "BKT". HF bands SWR adjusting device (if needed). This is mainly t reduce the SWR t an acceptable level at the antenna resnance pint n 160m and 80m (maybe als n 40m). Yu may need a shunt lad inductr, UNUN, impedance transfrmer r capacitance switch bx t reduce the SWR. The lad inductr cnnects frm the base f yur antenna (ht side) t the BKT grund blt - wind yur wn inductr r use ur weatherprf SHUNT-100 which blts t the grund blt n the BKT / munt. 9 inductrs are "invisible" and shuld nt affect the SWR. Sme antennas, such as thse by Scrpin Antennas, cme with a lad inductr at the base f the antenna and therefre n additinal device is needed. Ferrite bead filters t reduce HF antenna tuning prblems and t help prevent RFI in devices cnnected t yur radi. Fr the HF bands, use Mix 31 r ther types that are designed t filter the entire HF band. D NOT use unknwn ferrites as they may nt wrk at HF frequencies! Yu may want t install at least 3 ferrites, clsely spaced, ver yur cax / antenna mtr cable as clse t yur antenna as pssible. One f these shuld have the cax wund 2-3 times arund ne f the ferrites (imprves filtering at the lwer frequencies). Als install ferrites in a similar fashin n yur mtr/turns cunter cable, and install ne ferrite n the cax near yur transceiver. Sme installatins may require 10 r mre ferrites n EACH cable, at the antenna end f the cables. Yu can tune yur antenna using a DPDT, center ff, manual switch r ne f the autmatic tuning devices. D nt cnfuse these with "antenna tuners", which add capacitance / inductance t match the antenna t the radi - generally speaking these shuld NOT be used with "resnant" antennas except in rare cases t fine tune an SWR that is slightly t high and cannt be reduced by imprved grunding r using a lad inductr. Screwdriver / mtrized antenna aut tuning devices run the antenna mtr and stp at the pint f resnance. It is best t d yur research when deciding n which methd (manual r autmatic) and device is best fr yur setup. (7) Maintenance. Yu can "plish" the buffed aluminum with #0000 (very fine) steel wl - but be sure t cmpletely remve any steel wl debris s it des nt shrt ut yur antenna - this can be dne by vacuuming r wiping with a rag. Peridically check that all blts and antenna bases/blts are tight and that there is n cracking r metal fatigue r bending f the "track munting plate" and the factry "utility track.
