SALE SALE SALE SALE SALE SALE SALE SALE SALE SALE New Tutor Jan Hassard Jan has been a quilter and embroiderer for many years and is an active member of both the Quilters and Embroiderers Guilds. She has studied and taught extensively in this country and abroad and has attended the Houston Quilt Festival many times, the New Zealand Symposium and other shows and events. Her work has been exhibited widely and won many prizes including the Quilters Guild Award for colour twice. For the past few years she has also taught a Master Class at the Festival of Quilts, held at the NEC in Birmingham, UK. Jan is also an invited judge for the Quilters Guild of the British Isles. 3 Regular workshops Tracey Pitcher BEGINNERS PATCHWORK Tracey Pitcher 68 Welcome to the wonderful world of patchwork... and prepare to become addicted! Over the eight week course we will explore some of the basic techniques of patchwork including making templates, foundation piecing and appliqué. Also sashing, binding and quilting. We will also discuss other and methods terminology during the class. You will create six blocks which when put together will give you a quilt approx. 34 x 49 inches (86 x 125cm). See photo. Steve Broomhall of Sewing Machine World will demonstrate a range of current machines and explain the myriad of choices available. Come along to see the latest in sewing machines and accessories. Saturday and Sunday April 8, 9 Stack and Whack Jane Bothamley 34 The Stack n Whack method is an easy way to create blocks with unique kaleidoscope designs without having to fussy cut fabric to find the same pattern for each section of the design. Identical layers of fabric are cut and stacked with the motifs aligned. Each set of matching pieces from the stack will create a different pattern. Rotary cutting and machine sewing. Monday Feb 6 10am - 4pm SCISSOR SHARPENING Don t throw away your trusty old scissors. For just 8 they can be made as good as new. Usually ready for collection in two days. Millefiori Jane Bothamley 40 The name Millefiori is derived from Venetian crystal. The technique used for this project is English paper piecing using just five different templates. With the addition of fussy cutting stunning kaleidoscope effects are achieved. Hand sewing. Friday Jan 13, 27, Feb 10, Mar 24 10am - 12:30pm

5 Foundation piecing Jane Bothamley 40 Four small projects will be made during these workshops. A knowledge of foundation piecing is required. The four blocks will be - an eight pointed star, Storm at Sea, a variation of a Fan block and a Feathered Star. Foundation piecing and machine sewing. Friday Jan 13, 27, Feb 10, Mar 24 1pm - 3:30pm Mastering your Sewing Machine Ruth Jarman 37 Ruth is back again with her ever popular workshop on how to get the best out of your sewing machine. No matter what make or model she will teach you how to set the tension correctly and when to adjust to get the perfect stitch. Learn all about different needles, straight stitches, how to seam and neaten woven and stretch fabrics, blind and decorative hems, buttonholes, a basic introduction to embroidery, cleaning, oiling and lots of problem solving. Tuesday Feb 14 Get to Grips with your Overlocker Ruth Jarman 37 An overlocker is a wonderful thing, but it can also be frustrating if you are not familiar with tensions and settings. Ruth will take the fear out of it all by showing you how to set up your overlocker correctly, teaching you how to adjust the tension settings and balancing and provide easy threading tips. Wednesday Feb 15 Chenille Techniques Ruth Jarman 37 Chenille is a method of layering several fabrics together in blocks and then cutting them to create a worn soft chenille effect. Ruth will teach you tips, tricks and techniques to achieve a great result every time using a wide variety of fabrics. Thursday Feb 16

6 Stash Buster Jane Bothamley 34 Do you feel that your fabric stash is taking over? Have you got pieces of material left over from other projects? The designs being taught today allow you to combine your leftover pieces with fat quarters you have bought (although these are not essential!) but still not used therefore allowing space for more retail therapy. Rotary cutting and machine sewing. Saturday Mar 4 A Fishy Tale ~ Stumpwork Dilys Harvey 34 This is a small stumpwork panel, 6 inches square, which shows surface embroidery, 3 dimensional stitches, beading and needlelace fishes. The fishes will be worked separately on a needlelace pad and stitched in place among the seaweed fronds. Basic embroidery skills are required and knowledge of needlelace would be helpful but not essential. Monday Mar 6 Quilting, Embroidery and Embellishing Anja Townrow 48 Choice of 7 projects: Angel Fish, Blue Bird, Butterfly, Cocktail Time or Cockerel. Lots of stitches on your machine you haven t used? Lots of threads in your box you d like to know how to use? This is the workshop for you! Make a lovely small wall-hanging or cushion while exploring new threads and stitches. Find out what works for you and your machine; pick up lots of knowledge and tips. You ll quilt with confidence on your future projects! All the designs are included as free patterns in the workshop. Friday Mar 10

7 Little Treasure Cushions Anja Townrow 48 Anja will guide you through all the different techniques used to make this exquisite project. Once you know how, you ll want to make lots! Embellish with beads, buttons, braids, before choosing between two suggested ways to finish the edges. The design can also be adapted into a pocket diary or the centre of a quilt. Suitable for all skill levels. Size: 8x 8 inches, with the option to make a larger cushion up to 16x16. Saturday Mar 11 Twist and Turn Bargello Jane Bothamley 34 Based on the regular Bargello technique of strip piecing this next step on creates unusual shapes that curve and twist. This is a workshop for the more confident patchworker. Rotary cutting and machine sewing. Monday Mar 20

8 Colour Wave & Spirals Jan Hassard 48 This is a new class in Jan s popular series of illusional designs. Using quick piecing techniques with sparkling colours spiralling against a black background create an exciting art quilt or wall hanging. Jan won a judge s choice for her quilt at Quilts. Tuesday Mar 21 Dazzling Diamonds Jan Hassard 48 Jan won the Quilters Guild award for colour and a first with this quilt at Quilts UK In the workshop create dazzling diamond patterns with a contemporary look using strata and colour with a unique technique that she has devised. This is Jan s most popular workshop. Wednesday Mar 22

9 HUNTER STAR Tracey Pitcher 34 Another classic. This is a great design that looks good in just two contrasting colours, or as a scrap quilt. The exciting thing is how the stars appear as the blocks go together. Saturday Mar 25 Sew Birdy Anne Brooke 48 Anne loves working with paper, so here is a new workshop using her stitched collage technique, but with a birdy twist. Using your own image or one of Anne s templates create a stitched collage of one of the birds that frequent our gardens. A collaged background will be machine stitched and then heavily hand embroidered before being presented on a box canvas. Tuesday Apr 18

10 Stitched Collage Garden Border Anne Brooke 48 Anne is inspired by the things she sees in her garden and on her walks. In this stitched collage workshop you will create a stitched border inspired by garden borders. Using a base of paper you will add bits of fabric and decorative papers before drawing on to with your sewing machine and then hand stitching and embellishing the decorative details. The final piece can be presented on a canvas or wrapped around a vase. Wednesday Apr 19

11 Our Workshops Booking Details For those of you who have not visited us before our workshop is directly above the shop. It s bright and airy and fitted with daylight lighting. We supply complementary tea, coffee and biscuits for all workshop participants and there is a fridge and microwave for you to keep your packed lunch fresh and warm it up if necessary. Alternatively, for those who prefer to buy their lunch on site, we have an arrangement with the Wroxham Barns Restaurant for you to enjoy a takeaway lunch at a reduced price! If you have difficulty getting your sewing machine up stairs we can help with that and you may bring your car to the back of the shop to offload heavy items (before 10am and after 4pm only); but please be very careful of pedestrians, especially children. Our aim is to provide you with the venue and facilities to learn more about your hobby and share an enjoyable day with likeminded ladies. We look forward to seeing you soon. Some of the courses are expected to be oversubscribed and to give everyone a fair chance of getting a place on the workshop(s) they want we will not take bookings or reserve places before this date. On 16TH NOVEMBER we will only deal with the forms we have received by that morning. We will take further bookings in the shop and by phone from WEDNESDAY 16TH NOV. Full payment must be made at time of booking by cheque or by cash or payment card within a week. Cash or cheques accompanying unsuccessful applications will be returned. If you are booking by phone and do not have a payment card we will reserve your place for up to 7 days. If payment has not been received by the end of this time the reservation will lapse and the place may be sold to someone else. If you should decide to cancel a booking a refund will be made only if we are able to re-sell the place.
