Therefore if you compare like with like you will see that the prices of the autumn workshops are approximately 5% higher than before. Nevertheless we feel that our workshops still remain very good value for money and hope that we can rely on your continued and much valued support. Barbara and Stephen

This class offers you the chance to get to grips with rotary cutters, grid rules and your sewing machine (or you may choose to hand sew if you prefer). You will be given the choice of two different projects, which this term will be either a medallion quilt or blocks to make into any project you have in mind: a quilt, cushion covers, or even a bed runner. The choice is up to you. Over the eight week course we will explore some of the basic techniques of patchwork including making templates, foundation piecing and appliqué. Also sashing, binding and quilting. We will also discuss terminology and other methods during the class. You will create six blocks which when put together will give you a quilt approximately 34 x 49 inches (86 x 125cm), see photograph above. The project is all hand sewn. 4 Felt Wool felt appliqué is easy to sew as there are no turned edges and the small projects are completely portable. The project to be worked is a nine patch wall-hanging measuring approximately 30 square which can be made to suit any season of the year. Various embroidery stitches are used to embellish the felt projects. Each design is then appliquéd onto a fabric square and these are then sewn into a nine patch arrangement with sashing. Hand sewing for the felt designs but then the quilt can be assembled by machine. Saturday 26 Nov Millefiori Jane Bothamley 37 The name Millefiori is derived from Venetian crystal and English paper piecing is the technique used for this project. Using just five different templates and with the addition of fussy cutting stunning kaleidoscope effects are achieved. Hand sewing. Friday 23 Sep, 21 Oct, 18 Nov, 16 Dec 10am to 12.30pm Log cabin Jane Bothamley 37 The basic Log Cabin block has endless design possibilities and the original square format can be adapted to include other shapes such as triangles and diamonds whilst varying the width of the strips creates a curved effect. On these four classes, patterns will be provided for those who haven t sewn a Log Cabin block before and also for those who wish to expand their knowledge of this versatile block. 5 Charm Pack Bag A Charm Pack of forty 5 squares in a co-ordinated range is used to make this bag which measures approximately 20 x 26. It is versatile and can be used for workshops as the smaller size cutting mat fits quite easily with ample room for fabric etc. Machine sewn and rotary cutting. Wednesday 14 Sep SCISSOR SHARPENING Don t throw away your trusty old scissors. For just 8 they can be made as good as new. Usually ready for collection in two days. Quilt as you go or Flip and stitch Tracey Pitcher 34 No tacking, no quilting, stitch the top straight onto the wadding and backing only the binding needs to be added for the quilt to be finished do you like the sound of that? Come and learn patterns that can be made this way and you ll never be stuck for a quick quilt ever again. Thursday 15 Sep

6 Table runner The design for this table runner is part foundation pieced creating a central eight pointed star. It can be adapted to make a wall hanging. Finished size approximately 66 x 29. Foundation piecing, rotary cutting and machine sewing. Wednesday 28 Sep Pretty Posy Dilys Harvey 34 This panel of embroidered flowers, buds and leaves contains elements of surface embroidery and elements of stump work. Some of the petals are worked separately as a slip. They have wired edges and when finished and cut out, they are stitched in place on the main panel. Both the surface petals and the detached petals are shaded using stranded embroidery threads. Basic hand embroidery skills are required for this work. Monday 19 Sep Machine Quilting with Decorative Threads The threads you can use for machine quilting are extremely varied. If you haven t tried decorative threads then now is the time to experiment. Using either your walking foot or free motion quilting different effects can be achieved to enhance your completed quilt. Techniques such as couching, using metallic threads, two threads and decorative stitches will be covered. Tuesday 27 Sep

7 Make a bag in a day Sheila Ford 34 This bag has an embroidered flap made from silk carrier rods. Many creative stitcher s buy these but don t know what to do with them. I will show you how to separate the layers, and then add built in machine stitches to create a colourful fabric that will become the flap for a shoulder bag. You will be able to make the whole bag in a day! Thursday 29 Sep Master your Overlocker and make a Sweatshirt Top Ruth Jarman 37 An overlocker is a wonderful thing, but it can also be frustrating if you are not familiar with tensions and settings. In the morning we will set up your overlockers correctly, learn about tension settings and balancing, easy threading tips and taking the fear out of it all. In the afternoon you will construct a sweatshirt top.wow! Tuesday 18 Oct Sewing Machine World Steve Broomhall FREE Are you perplexed and bewildered by the choice of sewing machines available today? Steve Broomhall of Sewing Machine World will demonstrate a range of current machines and explain the myriad of choices available. Come along to see the latest in sewing machines and accessories. Saturday & Sunday 15, 16 Oct Mastering your Sewing Machine Ruth Jarman 37 Ruth is back again with her ever popular workshop on how to get the best out of your sewing machine. No matter what make or model she will teach you how to set the tension correctly and when to adjust to get the perfect stitch. Learn all about different needles, straight stitches, how to seam and neaten woven and stretch fabrics, blind and decorative hems, buttonholes, a basic introduction to embroidery, cleaning, oiling and lots of problem solving. Monday 17 Oct Bernina feet day Ruth Jarman 37 If you have a Bernina sewing machine, old or new, this class is for you. Ruth will show her 15 favourite sewing feet and their uses. Many feet have multiple uses, both practical and decorative, so prepare to be amazed. Some will be feet that came with your machine and some will probably be new to you, but they all earn their keep in different ways. How often have we heard what s that foot for? and I ve never used that one. See the best feet demonstrated and try them for yourself. Wednesday 19 Oct

8 Shortcuts Piece your quilts faster and more easily with time saving tips and techniques. Learn shortcut methods for half and quarter square triangles; four and nine patch blocks; single flying geese or a whole flock of geese! Other shapes will also be included. The samples made will be sewn into various blocks which can be put together to create a quilt. Each method taught can be adapted for different sizes. Rotary cutting and machine sewing. Thursday 20 Oct Twist and Turn Table Topper Tracey Pitcher 34 Whether your table is round, rectangular or oval this interesting table topper will fit them all. This project uses the wedge ruler that some of you may have used before on last term s Spiral Quilt. Tuesday 25 Oct Sea Horse Dilys Harvey 34 This is a fun panel of a charming little sea horse swimming amongst the sea fern. The body is applied to the background with a stitched outline and then embellished with further appliqué, a variety of stitches, and beads and sequins. Basic hand embroidery skills are required for this work. Monday 24 Oct

9 Star of David Tracey Pitcher 34 Do you like a bit of a challenge? Is foundation piecing your thing? Then here s one for you. This star is created with 6 interlocking triangles in 3 shades which gives the illusion of it being 3 dimensional. The panel would make a great centre for a larger project, or equally impressive as a wall hanging. Monday 7 Nov Primary Triangles Tracey Pitcher 34 This is fun! We will start with triangles of primary colours and overlap them. Then, where the triangles overlap, you get secondary colours It s really effective and a good exercise in playing with colour. The construction of this panel is very easy. It s all in the choice of colours and the end result gives you plenty of scope for creative quilting! Thursday 10 Nov Jelly Roll - New Designs Use a pre-cut Jelly Roll of forty 2 1/2 strips in co-ordinating fabrics from the same range to create a stunning quilt. A choice of two new designs will be available on the day so even if you have been to a Jelly Roll workshop before these will be totally different. Rotary cutting and machine sewing. Tuesday 8 Nov Tote-ally Terrific! A bag for all occasions! Jennie Rayment 48 It s tough, it s robust, it s strong yet soft and squidgy! Create this unique tote from squares and strips, embellish with a patchwork pocket or leave plain, add an inner zipped compartment, bind the edges and you are tote-ally good to go! Tuesday 22 Nov

10 Textured Land and Seascapes Jennie Rayment 48 Create your own original landscape using hand/ microwave dyed fabrics or any other materials. Discover the textural niceties of scrunching tucking, folding, inserting and pleating for a dynamically 3D unique creation. Creative play for all - twiddle and fiddle your way through a wide range of manipulative machinations. No artistic ability required - just have fun - it can t go wrong but will just be a little different! Wednesday 23 Nov Falling Leaves Dilys Harvey 34 This is another in our gold work series of panels. The panel shows a contemporary design with some areas painted in gold. These areas are outlined with couched gold thread. Gold kid is stitched over felt to give a raised area. The panel is decorated with beads and sequins and other surface stitches add interest and detail. Basic hand embroidery skills are required for this work. Monday 28 Nov Quick trip The Quick Trip quilt is a variation of Trip around the World where the fabric is arranged in diagonal descending rows. The method used is to firstly make a set of strips which are sewn together in a tube which are then cut apart in certain widths and in a set order. It is ideal for large scale prints. The size of the quilt without borders is 35 by 42. Wednesday 7 Dec

11 Our Workshops Booking Details For those of you who have not visited us before our workshop is directly above the shop. It s bright and airy and fitted with daylight lighting. We supply complementary tea, coffee and biscuits for all workshop participants and there is a fridge and microwave for you to keep your packed lunch fresh and warm it up if necessary. Alternatively, for those who prefer to buy their lunch on site, we have an arrangement with the Wroxham Barns Restaurant for you to enjoy a takeaway lunch at a reduced price! If you have difficulty getting your sewing machine up stairs we can help with that and you may bring your car to the back of the shop to offload heavy items (before 10am and after 4pm only); but please be very careful of pedestrians, especially children. Our aim is to provide you with the venue and facilities to learn more about your hobby and share an enjoyable day with likeminded ladies. We look forward to seeing you soon. Some of the courses are expected to be oversubscribed and to give everyone a fair chance of getting a place on the workshop they want we will not take bookings or reserve places before this date. On this day we will only deal with the forms we have received by that morning. We will take further bookings in the shop and by phone from Wednesday 22nd June. Full payment must be made at time of booking by cheque or by cash or payment card within a week. Cash or cheques accompanying unsuccessful applications will be returned. If you are booking by phone and do not have a payment card we will reserve your place for up to 7 days. If payment has not been received by the end of this time the reservation will lapse and the place may be sold to someone else. If you should decide to cancel a booking a refund will be made only if we are able to re-sell the place.
