1 Welcome to Stitching Cosmos Summer School We are excited to have you participate in our first Summer session of Stitching Cosmos. With this accelerated program we need to make sure you are ready for BOTH the first and second Stitching Cosmos classes with fabric and supplies when you arrive. We will provide fabric and stabilizer for Class #1. This will consist of white and black fabric to make two blocks. This will help ease you into the techniques of the first class. If you have not selected fabric prior to the first class, we will be giving recommendations of what would work best. If this is the case bring at least 4 fat quarters to start practicing on. These fat quarters should read solid. Busy prints are not recommended. At this first class you will also receive the COMPLETE set of handouts for the entire Stitching Cosmos program. This will help you plan ahead for the following four sessions. SCHEDULE FOR THE DAY: (Thursday, May 10 or Saturday, May 12) 9:30am - Doors open for set up 10-12:30pm - Class #1 12:30-2pm - LUNCH - you are welcome to go out for lunch! 2-4:30pm - Class #2 HOMEWORK: We highly recommend that you keep up with the Stitching Cosmos blocks after each class. Your dedication is required to get the most from this accelerated program. Please do not leave your homework to the night before the next class. SNACKS & DRINKS: You are welcome to bring snacks and beverages with lids to class. You will want to stay alert and functioning for the entire day. LUNCH: We will have a 1-1/2 hour break for lunch. There will be plenty of time to leave for lunch and return refreshed for the afternoon session. 2 5-month class. Yes, we will have a set of feet available to try out in class for Bernina, Husqvarna Viking and Pfaff users for those who do not know if they will want to purchase them or not. It is recommended to purchase accessory feet prior to the next class so we do not run out. (Note: We have 32 students attending the two summer sessions)! CLASS #1 OVERVIEW: In the first class we will cover selecting fabrics, cutting and sewing curves, using stabilizers, selecting threads, understanding needles, how to choose decorative stitches, and how to set tension settings with decorative threads. Learn the importance of sewing a Stitch Book. CLASS #2 OVERVIEW: Get ready for an amazing amount of couching options. Couching refers to stitching over cords or yarns. Bring a variety of thin and thick yarns and fibers. We will even teach how to take thinner threads and twist them together to create a thicker version and even how to mix colors to get the perfect color pallet!
