1 Spring Fling March 30-31, 2019 The 2019 Spring Fling event will be held on Saturday, March 30 through Sunday, March 31, We will once again convene at The Center located at Southwest Hwy, Palos Park, IL We will be holding classes in the log cabins nestled at the edge of the woods. According to The Center s rules, no alcohol is permitted. The registration fee of $50.00 also includes meals: Saturday lunch as well as Sunday breakfast and lunch. The menu will be included with your class confirmation letter. We welcome the following teachers to Spring Fling 2019 Sherrie Bingheim Bonnie Rideout Marilyn Wald Please read each of the class descriptions carefully noting the days, times and weaving levels when making your selections. All weavers are expected to bring their own basic supplies. If you have any questions, please contact Michelle Burns at (708) or ourpetzoo2@comcast.net. Your registration form must be received by January 15, 2019 so class assignments can be made quickly. Classes fill quickly, so don t delay. All registrations received after January15 will be placed in classes where space is available. Class assignments will be sent and teachers notified as soon as possible after the forms have been received and classes assigned. Class fees will be due upon receipt of class confirmation letter. 3 Directions to The Center From the North: Take I 294 South to I 55 North to Chicago. Exit La Grange Rd South to 131 st Street. Turn left (east) to Southwest Hwy. Turn left and The Center will be on the left. Parking on the lower level. Please use the upper level for handicapped parking and drop offs only. The fee is $40 and also includes meals with us but only one meal when The Center serves. Teachers Biographies Sheree Bingheim, Millstadt, IL Sheree's passion for basket making began in 1984 when she took her first 6 classes through an adult education program in Michigan. After 34 years of taking many more classes and polishing her skills, she has begun to design her own patterns and teach. She is very excited to share her love of basketry with her students. She has taught in Missouri and Illinois and has been a member of the Missouri Basket Weaver's Guild for 23 years. Other interests include, fiber arts and jewelry design. She lives in Southern Illinois with her husband and 4 indoor cats. Bonnie Rideout, Decatur, IL Bonnie started weaving around 1994 and quickly became hooked. She caught the basket bug big time! Over the years she has done countless craft and art shows in Central Illinois Bonnie has also taught in West Virginia, Missouri, Kentucky, Indiana and of course Illinois. She started her basket business in 2006 and really enjoys creating new designs! Marilyn Wald, Riga, MI Marilyn has been weaving since 1988 and began teaching in 1989 with two students. XYZ Basket Works was formed in Marilyn has taught at conventions, guild and workshops around the US and Canada. Marilyn has been featured in Basket Bits Magazine and Just Patterns. Students make teaching basketry special for her. It is rewarding to see the look of a weaver as he or she completes their basket. 3

4 Saturday Classes Class: Easter Basket Instructor: Sheree Bingheim Class Length: 8 hours Weaving Level: Intermediate - Advanced Class Fee: $70 Description: A large rib Easter Basket woven with 2 oval hoops. Done in purples and greens. Dimensions: Length: 15 ; Width: 10 ; Height: 15 Class: Savannah (Tote Basket) Instructor: Bonnie Rideout Class Length: 8 hours Weaving Level: Intermediate Class Fee: $50 Description: This pretty tote basket won t be boring to weave! Techniques include: weaving on a wood base, chase weaving, start/stop weaving, threerod wale, four-rod wale, stack weaving and double lashing. The leather handle is an adjustable 44 long. This is sure to become one of your favorite tote baskets! Bring glue to glue the spokes in the base. Colors: Stonewashed blue, smoked reed and natural reed. 5 Saturday Classes Class: Lacey s Legacy Instructor: Marilyn Wald Class Length: 8 hours Weaving Level: Intermediate Class Fee: $ 54 Description:. This basket has much to offer a weaver when it comes to a variety of styles. The base has a starburst effect that will be done with two colors. The first rim is done both inside and out to make the basket strong and sturdy enough to support the handles. Emphasis will be place on shaping the upper portion of the basket. Handles are attached using washers, screws and nuts. Dimensions: Height: 9 ½ ; Width: 6 ½ ; Length: 12 ½ 5

6 Sunday Classes Class: Wall Vase Instructor: Sheree Bingheim Class Length: 6 Hours Weaving Level: Intermediate Class Fee: $ 60 Description: This wall basket is perfect for dried flowers or a silk arrangement. Students start with a basic button basket, then expand by adding ribs to widen the top. Embellished with a unique button. Dimensions: Height: 14 ; Width: 15 Class: Gathering Basket Instructor: Bonnie Rideout Class Length: 4 Hours Weaving Level: All Weaving Levels Class Fee: $ 50 Description: The Gathering basket would be perfect for your stash of yarn! Or anything else you fancy. The Gathering Basket is woven on a Williamsburg handle. The accent color is black. The woven base is filled with dyed black spokes and there is a pretty black overlay on the handle. Black homespun fabric and a pretty leather sheep embellishment complete this basket. Perfect for any weaving level! Dimensions: Length: 19 ½ ; Width: 11 ¾ ; Height: 5 ½ 6

7 Sunday Classes Class: Mantel Basket Instructor: Bonnie Rideout Class Length: 4 Hours Weaving Level: All Weaving Levels Class Fee: $ 40 Description: This basket would look lovely in any room of your home. Fill it with flowers in spring and summer and pinecones in the fall. Perfect for your fireplace mantel or wherever you choose to use it. The pretty oversized buttons finish it off. Techniques include: filling a base, twining, and decreased weaving. Accent color is black. Dimensions: Length: 18 ; Width: 6 ½ ; Height: 7 Class: Whisper Mountain Instructor: Marilyn Wald Class Length: 8 Hours Weaving Level: All Weaving Levels with prior weaving experience Class Fee: $ 55 Description: Whisper Mountain is created using traditional weaving methods. A little shaping and a lot of design work complete the basket. There will be several colors from which the weaver may choose. Weavers will make the handles for Whisper Mountain.
