1 Dear PPM Member, Enclosed you will find the 2018 Print Competition Rules and Forms. Please read carefully as you will need to register your images prior to the PhotoMax event ( ALL PRINT CASE REGSITRATIONS, LABELS AND PAYMENT ARE TO BE DONE AT New this year: We will be accepting both physical prints and digital submission, however ONLY PHYSICAL PRINTS WILL BE ELIGIBLE FOR PPM AWARDS. If you have never entered print competition before now is the time to do so!!! We are giving a Premiere Membership to PPM!!! All you need to do to be eligible to win the membership is to enter a print case. For each print case that is entered (PPM members only) that name will be submitted into a drawing to win the prize. The drawing will take place during the awards banquet. We will be accepting both physical and digital albums. Remember, this is not just for Wedding Albums. You may enter any type Album you wish (Senior, Baby, Family, etc.). Please refer to the album rules to learn more about it. We WILL be accepting digital submissions this year (digital album submissions will be eligible for PPM awards). Don t forget Next Generation. This is designed for friends and family who are under the age of seventeen, and have the sponsorship of an active PPM member. Only $10 per image ( Next Generation only) to enter. See rules to participate. Entries may not arrive at The Doubletree before Monday, February 5th, Print drop off is Friday February 9 between 10:00 AM and 1:00 PM. All prints MUST be in the print room no later than 1:00 PM on Friday, February 9th, Judging will begin on Friday night at 5:00 pm, and resume Saturday morning at 9:00 am. Prints will be on display after judging through the awards ceremony. Print case pick up is Sunday, Feb 11th following the awards ceremony. If you need to have your print case shipped back to you, please include an additional $25 for shipping. Please refer to the check list to make sure that you have not forgotten anything. 2 2018 Print Competition Procedure Must Read! We are requiring online registration prior to PhotoMax! Go to 1. If you do not have a previous account, click on free registration of new user. If you have an account, proceed to step 2. Enter and create a password. 3. Choose the organization PPM from the list and click on the register button at the bottom. 4. Verify that your contact information is correct. If it is not correct, make any changes necessary by clicking on the Change button at the top of the contact information box. Verify your alert settings and your achievements, make necessary changes. 5. Look for the PPM logo, and select membership status and first time entering information. 6. Click on Create a New Image Entry. 7. Enter title name in box provided. 8. Select a category. 9. Select entry type (General or Master Artist). We will be accepting both physical prints and digital submission, however ONLY PHYSICAL PRINTS WILL BE ELIGIBLE FOR PPM AWARDS. Albums may be physical or digital (digital album submissions will be eligible for PPM awards). 10. Select if your image qualifies for the Lexjet award. If your image qualifies for the Lexjet award, you must place the identifying Lexjet label on the back of the print. Labels are found at under the print competition tab. The Lexjet award will only be given if a minimum number of physical prints are entered. That minimum number is determined by Lexjet. 11. SELECT YOUR TOP 4 IMAGES THAT WILL COUNT TOWARDS MICHIGAN S FOUR FOR FOUR AWARD. YOU MAY ENTER UNLIMITED PRINTS, BUT YOU MUST DESIGNATE YOUR TOP FOUR TO COUNT TOWARDS THE FOUR FOR FOUR AWARD. DESIGNATE A PRINT BY CLICKING YES ON FOUR FOR FOUR QUALIFIED. ONLY FOUR PRINTS MAY BE DESIGNATED FOR THIS AWARD. IF YOU CHOOSE MORE THAN FOUR, YOU WILL BE DISQUALIFIED FOR THIS AWARD. 12. Click on Create a new Entry. Uploaded files must be sized so the longest dimension is 4,000 pixels (20 inches at 200 ppi). Each file must contain an embedded color profile of either srgb or Adobe RGB1998 and be saved at JPEG quality setting of 10. Total file size should not exceed 10 MB. Click on the upload image tab and proceed. 13. Repeat steps 7-13 for each image entry. 14. If you are entering a digital album, you must zip your album pages before uploading. For zipping instructions: PC: Mac: After all images/albums have been submitted and uploaded, click on any Pay button or the pay image fees button. 16. Select either Member or Non-Member fee, and enter your total fee (Member-$80 case fee, includes up to 4 images. Unlimited 5 or more images, add PER IMAGE, Non-Member-$100 case fee, includes up to 4 Images. Unlimited 5 or more images, add $20 PER IMAGE). Enter in payment information and click Charge Card. 17. Print your PPM Entry form by clicking on Print PPM Entry Form. This must be printed and included in your case. 18. To continue printing your individual image labels, click on your browser back button to return to the previous screen. 19. Print your individual image labels by clicking on Print All Back Labels. 20. Secure labels to lower left corner on the back of each entry. 21. Refer to the rest of the document for additional rules, clarification and forms. 2 P a g e
3 Professional Photographers of Michigan 2018 Certification Form I accept the following terms of the competition: 1. Failure to sign this entry form will void the submission of my entry. 2. I created, composed and made the original exposure in all categories. 3. No entry was made under any instructor or in any classroom situation. 4. I have never received a score of 80 or above on any of these entries in a prior PPM competition. 5. I have obtained all model releases and hold harmless PPM, PPA, LexJet, or any of their agents against all claims or liabilities arising out of public display or any reproduction of the entries in this competition. 6. I assume all liability for damage or loss of entry that I submit for judging. 7. The entry of any image in this exhibit shall be construed by the association as consent to reproduce in the newsletter or teaching situation. 8. I understand that all awards presented will be for a calendar year and any advertising or publicity that I promote will contain the year: i.e Michigan Photographer of the Year. 9. I acknowledge that any disputes arising from questions not covered in the rules will be settled by the Exhibition Chair and that the decision will be final. 10. All information on print labels is correct and true. 11. I am entering only one image of the same subject in this competition. I understand that it is not eligible for entry in MA competition and General Exhibition competition at the same time. 4 Professional Photographers of Michigan, Inc Print Exhibition Rules Doubletree by Hilton Detroit/Dearborn, Michigan 1. Eligibility Any PPM member in good standing may enter. PPM members may enter either physical or digital images. However, only Physical Prints are eligible for awards. Out of State guests are welcome to enter either physical prints or digital images. (Out of state guests are not eligible for awards). 2. Dues Membership dues must be paid and received by the PPM Treasurer one week prior to the PhotoMax event. 3. Entry Fee Minimum case/entry fee for any category (General and/or Master Artist) with up to four items is $ Unlimited number prints may be entered. The fee is $10.00 for each image, after four, that is submitted. You will pay online when you register and upload your images prior to the convention ( 4. Entry Form and Certification A signed 2018 Certification Form must be enclosed with your entry. Entries without your signature will not be judged. Print identification labels are printed at the time you register on line. Please tape the proper bar-coded label to the lower left corner on the back of each entry. 5. Identification of entries All entries must be titled. Not doing so will disqualify your entry. The following items must not appear on the front of the entry: Title, name of maker, tape covering anything, seals or ribbons. Titles that are an integral part of the photograph are permitted. 6. Subject matter Not restricted. All entries must be designated by the maker in the following classifications: Portrait, Illustrative, Wedding/Event, Commercial, Album or Next Generation. 7. Deadline Entries may not arrive at The Doubletree before Monday, Monday February 5, 2018 and MUST be in the print room by 1:00 PM on Friday, February 9th, 2018! Drop off at the Doubletree by HILTON Detroit/Dearborn is 10 am - 1 pm on Friday, February 9th, Only one entrant per case. We suggest the case be a fiber or similar style print case. However, boxes will be accepted. Print cases will be released on Sunday, Feb 11th following the awards. If you do not pick them up or have someone designated to accept them, PPM will ship them via UPS. Please include an additional $25 for shipping. You must also fill out the shipping label supplied to you. 9. Judging Procedures Professional Photographers of America procedures and scoring will be used in this exhibit, except for changes covered within these rules. 10. Category Rules: a. General Exhibit: Portrait, Illustrative, Wedding/Event, Album and Commercial: Unlimited number of entries may be submitted. Your top four choices must be designated and will count toward the 4 for 4 Pin. No two or more images may be of the same subject. This includes the same model in different clothing or in separate sessions. Each entry must be distinctly different. The same image may not be entered in both Artist and Photographic. Prints may be odd shaped as long as they are within PPA guidelines. Maximum 480 square inches to a minimum of 80 square inches. Maximum length is 24. b. Recommended thickness of a print is a minimum of 1/8 and a maximum of 3/8 (including print, mat and mount). Please note Both over and under matting are acceptable. c. Albums: Digital or Physical albums may be submitted in the place of prints and count toward totals. Rules are listed on a separate sheet enclosed. d. 5 Professional Photographers of Michigan 2018 Master Artist Rules Purpose of the Master Artist Competition: To determine those images which excel in both technical and in creative use of electronically created images. Eligibility: Any PPM member in good standing may enter. PPM members may enter either physical or digital images. However, only Physical Prints are eligible for awards. Out of State guests are welcome to enter either physical prints or digital images. (Out of state guests are not eligible for awards). Next Generation or non members may not enter in this competition. Master Artist Categories: Master Artist Includes the electronic/digital retouching, restoration, or enhancement of pre-existing images. Entries in the Master Artist category shall include any subject and are encouraged to have guide images. This category is for work that you have performed to enhance an existing image, which may or may not be yours. The entrant should be prepared to provide appropriate written documentation indicating permission for usage. All processing, manipulation, artwork or rendering must be done by the entrant. Printing may be done under their direct supervision. The image may have been sourced entirely within the computer (and the mind of the entrant). The image may have resulted from the extensive modification of only a single element, such as a photograph, resulting in an image of such qualities and characteristics as to be unattainable by other means. The source image(s) in this category have undergone such intensive or extensive MA manipulation that they have become a new and original image in their own right. Guide prints are required in this category. Guide images must be included on the submitted image and mounted/included on the face of the print. Images may be of any shape and size on a mount board a minimum of 80 square inches to a maximum of 480 square inches, with the largest dimension no longer than 24. Prints must be mounted on a standard mount material. Recommended mounting thickness is 1/8 to 3/8. See PPA guide lines for further information on print guidelines and submissions. The entrant s name shall not appear anywhere in or on the face of the entry. No two entries shall be of the same subject. Entries Allowed and Submission Instructions: One entrant per case. Minimum case/entry fee with up to four entries is $ Unlimited number of prints may be entered. The fee is $10.00 for each image, submitted (after 4). You may not enter the same image in both MA and Photographic. The entrant is responsible for signing and completing entry forms. Releases must be obtained for all Copyright material. Bar-coded Labels must be attached to the lower left corner on the back of each entry. Each entry must be titled. All registration and payment has to be done prior to print case drop off ( Judging and Scoring and Award Procedures: Professional Photographers of America judging procedures and scoring system will be used. Best of Show will be selected from the highest scoring prints in each category. MA Photographer of the Year will not be awarded if scores are less than 80. Entries may not arrive at the Doubletree by Hilton before Monday, February 5th, 2018 and MUST be in the print room by 1:00 PM on Friday, February 9th, 2018! 5 P a g e
6 Professional Photographers of Michigan 2018 Album Rules Eligibility: Any PPM member in good standing may enter. PPM members may enter either physical or digital albums. Out of State guests are welcome to enter either physical or digital albums. (Out of state guests are not eligible for awards). Album Entries Album entries may be submitted in the form of either a physical album or digital album. We will be accepting physical and/or digital entries for awards. Traditional and Digital Album Entry 1. Album cover may not exceed 400 square inches. 2. No multiple volume albums are allowed. 3. Any studio identification or entrant s name in the album must be covered. 4. All entries must be entered on line prior to case drop off. If entering a physical album you will only need to upload a cover image. If entering a digital album you must zip your album pages before uploading (For zipping instructions: PC: Mac: Single-Maker Entries 1. Images in the album must be the work of the entrant. No other photographer s images are allowed. Multi-Maker Entries 1. Each participating entrant must pay the appropriate entry fee. 2. Each traditional album must have an entry label for each entrant. 3. Images in the album must be the work of the entrants, with a minimum of 20 images per entrant. 4. Multi-maker albums will be judged once. The score will count towards each entrant total. 6 P a g e
7 Next Generation Rules 2018 What is the Next Generation? Next Generation is designed for friends and family who are under the age of seventeen, and have the sponsorship of an active PPM member. It is a great way to introduce our Next Generation to print competition. The entrant will need to follow all print competition rules and pay $10.00 per image submitted. They will not be eligible for Photographer of the Year award. They will not be eligible for any awards/drawings other than the Next Generation category. There will be one Best of Show award given. There will also be a chance to win ribbons. If your sponsored child will be participating in the Next Generation competition, please return this form, signed by an active PPM member and your sponsored child. Please include this with all other forms that you will need for competition.
