1 Notes and ideas for September. Issue # It's your newsletter! Let us and others know what your guild or group is doing? Now that Summer is coming to an end, many of you become more active with your guilds or creative groups. We would love to share your stories and photos of your group and their activities. Help us promote the love of fiber arts by sharing. Please make submissions for this newsletter to Invitation from NM Crochet Guild The New Mexico Crochet Guild would like to extend to your guild members an invitation to our September meeting. Lalie Williamson has graciously agreed to present a program on Inspiration. Heaven knows we all struggle with this from time to time. We believe we will also have two other presenters from

2 Arizona who will provide the perfect follow-up to Lalie s program as they will be discussing the properties of Yarn. We oftentimes encounter difficulties in figuring out what yarns we can use to substitute for a particular pattern when we cannot find the recommended yarn or what yarn is best to use for a particular project. You are welcome to bring any questions you might have and hopefully we might get some answers. The New Mexico Crochet Guild meeting will be held at 1:30 pm on Saturday, September 19, at Heights Cumberland Presbyterian Church, located at 8600 Academy, NE in Room 407. I realize that some of our members will be busy with the State Fair but hopefully we will still be able to get a good turnout. Please share this information with your guild members in hopes that they will be able to join us in becoming Inspired and so we may all learn more about the qualities of the various yarns that are available for our use. Hopefully, they will then be able to take the information back to their guild and we will all wind up with some outstanding fiber arts projects afterwards. 6 Colors of the Southwest Attention all Albuquerque Fiber Arts Council Guild

7 members! Our Spring 2016 show is scheduled for April 1-2 and we want your fiber art included. The Albuquerque Fiber Arts Council Education Committee is meeting Thursday September 10 to proceed with the plans. The theme is "Colors of the Southwest." This show is juried but not judged and will be open to the public to show them what we do in our fiber world. So talk among your guilds and get started on your entries. If you are not a guild member, check our website to find one to join one so you can show off your work. And if you are not a fiber artist, but enjoy seeing it, put the dates on your calendar. 8 Interested in Belonging to a Mixed Media Group?? Some of you have already shown interest in a forming a new Mixed Media group by signing up at the Mixed Media Exhibit at the 2015 Albuquerque Fiber Arts Fiesta. For those of you who are interested and unaware of this group beginning to take shape, we would like to invite you to send us an so we can include you. At present, our plan is to eventually be affiliated with the Fiber Arts Council and be officially recognized in the Education Committee and at the Fiber Arts Fiesta. Linda Garcia and myself,

The NM Silk Painters Guild is planning a two day retreat October 15-16 at the Espanola Valley Fiber Arts Center.

10 The NM Silk Painters Guild is planning a two day retreat October at the Espanola Valley Fiber Arts Center. Guild members will be teaching Composition and Design, Abstract Composition with Fabric Dyes and one more to be decided upon topic. Space is limited and may appeal to a fiber artist with an emphasis on design work on silk. Fee for both days is $100, not included are meals and housing. Contact Suzanne

All week long we will be celebrating the Navajo-Churro sheep breed with classes, lectures, activities, and 100% Navajo-Churro wool products! Stay tuned for more information. FALL FIBER FIESTA 11/21-11/22 SCOTTISH RITES MASONIC TEMPLE SANTA FE NEW MEXICO This show is organized by EVFAC and is open to all active Members. All products must be hand crafted by the artist. This show is a great opportunity for Members looking to sell gifts, garments and winter items. The show will now be held in the beautiful Scottish Rite Masonic Temple close to downtown Santa Fe. The new location offers more space for both open concept displays and private table displays for specific artists, as well as for demos and hands-on projects for adults and children. FIBER ROCKS! 11/17-1/3 CONVENTO GALLERY ESPAÑOLA NEW MEXICO To inspire artistic expression of contemporary fiber artists, and raise awareness about local heritage, we have decided to partner with Mesa Prieta

12 Petroglyph Project (MPPP) and developed a curated traveling exhibition of fiber work titled Fiber Rocks! Legacy Community Felted Artwork Raffle October 7, 2015 The original felted piece that was created by the community members who participated during our successful Thumper II Launch Event on March 12th, 2015 is being raffled off. Many contributed to its creation assisting Maggy Pavlou, a nationally recognized felter, orchestrate the placement of the pre-dyed wool. Based on her design that was inspired by the New Mexico landscape, participants carded wool and mohair locks then carefully placed them on the large wool batting sheet. This process took several hours and the hands of many. Also the Mayor of Española, Alice Lucero, and the City Clerk, Anna Squires, added colorful fluffs of dyed wool, as countless visitors watched and enjoyed the party and the wonderful food. Once the wool was laid out the sheet was ready for thumping in our proprietary wet-felting machine called the Thumper II. Everyone watched in amazement how the wool was entangled and then emerged as this beautiful Legacy Community Felted Artwork, which we are raffling off starting today.
