1 Rocky Mountain Region EGA Retreat 2015 October 9-10, 2015 Glenwood Springs Community Center Glenwood Springs, Colorado Welcome! This year the Rocky Mountain Region is sponsoring our first ever region retreat called To The Finish. I hope that you will seriously consider attending. The committee has selected four great region mentors in four different specialties to offer help and guidance. If you could use some advice with techniques or designs, or even advice on where do I go from here?, then this is the retreat for you. The retreat will be located in beautiful Glenwood Springs in the fall when the leaves are turning and the mountains are at their loveliest. Come join us for a wonderful two days of stitching and relaxation. Janice Wood Region Director Foothills Chapter Retreat 2015 in Glenwood Springs is the place to be. Come join us for relaxation, renewal, and stitching among friends. Our mentors: Toni Gerdes, India Hayford, Carolyn Sherman, and Shirley Kay Wolfersperger will help you achieve a sense of accomplishment. The works illustrated are samples of the mentor s work and NOT sessions to be taught. Pull out your stash and feel the excitement of deciding on a project to complete. Bring two or three if the decision is too hard. 2 Featured Mentors: Please join us and our wonderfully creative mentors to glean new ideas and complete a work in progress! This retreat provides time to stitch with as little or as much guidance as you desire. Come relax, meet new friends, continue stitching with longtime friends & enjoy our creative time together! Beading with Carolyn Sherman Wouldn t it be fun to play with beads for two whole days? Wouldn t you like to start a kit that has been aging in your stash, finish a project, or maybe learn a new technique? Wouldn t you like to share some of your favorite beading projects, books and tips? And wouldn t you like to sneak off to the local bead shop for a little shopping? Then this is the time for you! Carolyn Sherman has taught beading and clothing embellishment techniques at many national and regional seminars sponsored by the EGA. She has also taught beading at NAN, ANG, Blue Bonnet Studio Retreat, International Quilt Festival, and Bead and Button Show in Milwaukee, WI. Carolyn was inducted into the Colorado Quilting Council s Hall of Fame and received the EGA Rocky Mountain Region Educators Award for Excellence in Her current love is dimensional beadwork and bead embroidery. Canvas with Toni Gerdes Do you need help or encouragement with an unfinished or new canvas project? In this class, we will work together to select stitches, colors and threads for your canvas projects. We will all share in the fun of working on a favorite piece. I will, also, have a couple of techniques to demonstrate during your time in class, things like ruching threads, hot foiling technique under stitching, and fun button stitching. Toni Gerdes holds Level II Teachers certification from the National Academy of Needlearts specializing in canvas embroidery. Toni has taught for NAN, EGA and ANG, as well as guilds and shops. She has been published in Needlepointers, Needlepoint Now and Needle Arts as the Artist Across America. She has received numerous awards for her designs. She enjoys all types of stitching and especially sharing her knowledge with others.
3 Counted Thread with Shirley Kay Wolfersperger Blackwork, Hardanger, sampler work, Danish counted work, Assisi work, perforated paper, or whatever type of counted work you do this is the place to come to sit and stitch your UFOs, your new projects, and to plan your projects. Color and creativity are also a specialty. Would you like to try out perforated paper? Informal lessons on this medium will be given throughout the two days. Shirley Kay Wolfersperger is a nationally exhibiting artist who teaches color theory, design theory, creativity, and counted work. She has been published in Needle Arts and other embroidery publications, her book, Experimenting with Art, is published by HarperCollins. Shirley Kay is an EGA Graduate Teacher and holds Mastercraftsman certification in Color for Needlework. She is the author of several EGA Group Correspondence Courses and two Individual Correspon dence Courses. She was guest curator and juror for Contemporary Blackwork, an international exhibit at EGA national headquarters. Shirley Kay has attended the Royal School of Needlework and has had classes at the Embroiderers Guild in London. Surface Embroidery and Design with India Hayford Bring me your tired, your poor, your wrinkled surface embroideries all yearning to be finished. Do you have wretched UFOs in your teeming stash? Bring designs that are off-balanced or color-challenged to me and together we will fix them. For those who wish to begin a new project, I will offer informal instruction in Yemenite embroidery. India Hayford is an EGA certified teacher in Embroidery as Contemporary Expression and the designer of recently retired ICC Design for Needlework. She has classroom instruction experience in various surface embroidery techniques, Blackwork, needle point, design, color, fabric collage, costume design and execution. She is the recipient of the 2012 EGA Legacy Scholarship and 2014 Research Fellowship Grant to study, catalog, and photograph collections of Yemenite Israeli Embroidery. Author of multiple Needle Arts articles on creativity, design, ethnic, and contemporary surface embroidery. India currently co-chairs EGA Teacher Certification Exams Program.
