1 21th Annual Basketry Weave-In Saturday, February 6, 2016 Scottish Rite Temple 1415 South 17 th Street Wilmington, NC Attached you will find a registration packet including a photo brochure and description of our basket offerings. Classes are planned so that you can complete your project in the allotted time. Registration forms must be postmarked by January 7, We are pleased to offer baskets for all skill levels. You may select four basket choices in order of preference. We will strive to honor your priority selections if at all possible. Be sure to bring standard basket making tools and a water bucket. If special equipment is needed, the brochure will mention those items. If there is a question or concern, you will be called. We will have many items to be raffled so don t forget to bring your address labels for the tickets. Tickets will be one for $1 or six for $5. If you have questions or need additional information please contact: Beryl Hall at (beryl.hall79@gmail.com) or Vicki Worrell at (srsbasket1@aol.com). We hope you will plan to join the Port City Basketmakers for a day to meet new friends, share our love of basketry, and create a nice project (or two) to take home and enjoy! Students will learn how to set up a Nantucket basket, learn to weave a twill over 2 under 1. A cheater rim will finish off the basket. Stakes and weavers will be cane, oak base, and oak cheater rim. Base & rim will be pre-finished. Mold is not included. Every Season Tall Wall Basket Karen Herman Decorate your door or wall with this tall wall basket. You can change the flowers each season to enjoy all year long. Metal/iron hanger is included. Up The Down Staircase Basket Margaret Hardin Save some trips up and down the stairs by weaving this beautiful basket. You will use color trims, braided sea grass and sea shells. The picture is only a sample of what you will be weaving. 3 ½ H X 5 D 6 hr. class Fee: $50 Beginner/ 7 L X 25 H X 6 W 6 hr. class Fee: $50 Main 8 X 8 Step 8 X 8 Height 13 8 hr. class Fee: $75 SM-4 SM-5 SM-6 Country Angel Penny Burchfield In this class you ll be weaving Country s dress over a mold and hemming it in with a braided edge. We will assemble her head, arms, wings & halo, then, finishing by attaching a readymade ornament. Berries & ornaments will vary. Student may contact teacher for color requests. 18 H 8 hr. class Fee: $85 Handy Shoulder Tote Wanda Harris A very handy tote basket with an extralong leather handle to go over your shoulder. Uses stop / start weaving to create a uniform shape. Dyed reed colors will vary from kit-to-kit. 3 ½ D X 14 W X 13 H 6hr. Class Fee: $45 Froggy Fun Pam Milat A fun to weave reed basket that features a woven filled base, overlays on start/stop weave, topped with a wrapped handle. The students will learn how to "make a handle" with an overlay placed on extended spokes then wrapped to make a solid sturdy handle. Then they adorn their basket with the adorable little frog. 8-1/2 W x 11-1/2 L x 3-1/2 H 6 hr. class Fee: $35
4 SM- 7 SM- 8 SM-9 8am 5pm Salute! Sharon Blake This handy patriotic round is created with natural and dyed reed on flat top D handle. Lots of twining and over/under weaving are used. The blue accent rows are highlighted with cross-stitching using round reed. An attractive braided border finishes the rim. This basket is sturdy and useful. 12 X 5.5 D to Rim x 10 H w/handle 6hr. class Fee $36 Sample Market Basket Pam Starnes This basket reviews the basic techniques of over/under weaving, twining, and shaping. The bases is a filled weaved base. The handles are Shaker Tape handles and there will be several colors to choose from. 14 L X 5 W X 7 H 6hr. class Fee $30 Cover and Carry Basket is woven on a wood base. You will have over/under weaving and triple twining. Basked is finished w/split wooden handles, ash strip cover and cover for the top. Material for the covers will vary. 17 L X 14 W X 8 H 8 hr. class Fee $79 Half day classes are on the following page. SM-10 SM-11 Turquoise Waves Becki Newsome Smokin Bread Basket Becki Newsome Large basket woven on a Williamsburg Handle that has been pre-stained. Basket is woven with smoked reed and turquoise dyed reed. Techniques used for weaving are continuous weave, triple twine, and a braided rim. The basket also has a solid woven base. Spoke weights are needed. 14 L X 20 W X 14 H 8 hr. class Fee: $65 This basket has a solid woven base with pre-stained Williamsburg Handle. The sides are woven using triple twining and start/stop techniques. There is also a braided rim which looks far more complicated than it is. Slower weavers may not get the braided rim finished but will have clear instructions on how to complete this simple but fun weave. Spoke weights are needed. 9 L X 19 W X 9 H 8 hr. class Fee: $45
5 SA-1 8am Noon SA-2 1pm - 5pm Little Initial Choose the Season This basket is woven on a D handle with a solid woven base. Simple over/under weaving w/spaced dyed reed. You will embellish your basket with a wood burned initial. 7 ½ L X 5 W X 5 H 4 hr. class Fee: $32 Your kit will include the material for two baskets, you will choose which one you would like to make in class. Both baskets are woven on a pre-painted D handle with over/under weaving and triple twining. Finish with embellishments. 4 Dia. X 4 ½ H & 7 L X 4 W X 4 ½ H 4 hr. class Fee: $46
