1 May 2015 Newsletter & Classes Quilt Shop Hello! Contact Us: 444 Columbus Road Mt. Vernon, Ohio Well my trees and flowers are finally blooming so I think it is safe to assume that spring might really be here. New life is surrounding us. We have some exciting new changes coming to the shop that will rejuvenate our space! I will reveal those changes as they approach! We have three big events planned during this schedule; The Fab Five are having their always popular Super Saturday Event, Paw Patch will be Buzzin Busy with huge sales and demos, Penny Haren coming to do a lecture/demo and class and most importantly my beautiful daughter Sam is getting married. We are having a small family wedding in May and then the full blow-out New Year s Eve! See details for quilting events below! We were at the Quilter s Market in Fredericktown last Saturday and it was a very successful event. Thank you to the Fredericktown Tourism group who organized the event and to each of you who attended. Hopefully this event will be on the schedule for next spring. Saturday July 25th We are so pleased to have with us Penny Haren Our own local celebrity! Penny was a quilt shop owner, in Newark Ohio Has been a quilter for over 20 years. She is a published author of quilt books and patterns. Quilt fabric designer. She currently works for Checker Distributor, the largest distributor in the world. Designs for Creative Grid Rulers and a spokesperson. She travels the country offering classes and lectures. Details are being worked out for the day! Tentatively: We are planning for a lecture and demo in the morning And class in the afternoon (Dresden Plates). Please mark your calendars. Location to be arranged.

3 Quilt Shop Class Schedule Mother s Day Event! 1 Sessuib Friday May 1st from 10-4pm Cost: $10 + Pattern Bring a dish to share! We will be making these wonderful portable ironing boards! Miniatures Carol Sampler 31 x 36 7 Monthly Sessions Starting May 4th from 1-4 pm June 8, July 6 etc.,,, We will adjusts for holidays! Cost: $20/month Instructor: Carol If you have made miniatures previously this little sampler will be more practice. I will be teaching the basics of miniature piecing for anyone who is interested in learning! Every Quilter has a Masterpiece within them Create-A-Tilt One Session. Tuesday May 5th From 10-Noon Cost: $15 Instructor: Jean We will be using Sewing Revolution's Ruler to create this wonky block without having to work with bias edges!! We will make one block in class. This is such a versatile block, use theme fabrics, embroidery, photos etc.. Just Another Towel Class Machine Embroidery Monthly. The first Wednesday of each month. Join anytime! 4 Bendy Bag One Session Thursday May 7 from 5-8pm Cost: $20 Instructor: Jean These bendy bags are so fun and quick to put together. I think Joanne has 3 different sizes figured out, you will get her instructions for other sizes with the class. And yes! PPQS is carrying Zippers. Crazy Stitches Hand Embroidery 2 Sessions Saturdays June 20 & 27th From 9am-Noon Cost: $30 Instructor: Angie Angie will be teaching many crazy embroidery stitches. Her sample is made of wool, which creates a beautiful background for the stitches! Bordeaux Braid 3 Sessions Mondays May 11, 18, skip 25, June 1 from 1-3pm Cost: $30 Instructor: Jean/Carol/Joanne This is a French braid quilt. They are fun to make and a great way to use up your stash! SuperStar 3 Sessions Tuesdays May 12, 19 & 26th From 10-1pm Cost: $45 Instructor: Barb This quilt is scrappy and fun. We used fat 1/8th bundle and the background fabric! Another great stash buster!! A day Patched With QUILTING Seldom unravels! Page 4

5 Quilt Shop Class Schedule JANOME OWNERS! Monthly Sessions. Tuesday, Thursday & Saturday I do have an opening in the Saturday class. May schedule: 12th 2-5pm 21st 2-5pm 30th 10-1pm Please contact me if you are interested in this class! We will make room! If you own a Janome you should be in this class. We are learning the features & feet on your machine plus so much more! Zig-Zag Placemats One Session Thursday June 11 From 10-2pm Cost:$25 Instructor: Jean These placemats go together quickly! Colossians 3:12b Sew Together Bag! 2 Sessions Wednesdays May 20 & 27th Cutting Session: Do you want help cutting! 5-6pm on 20th $5 Class: from 6-9pm $30 You will come with fabrics cut. This bag is difficult to photograph and capture all the wonderful features! It has many pockets with zippers, needle holder, pin holder etc... And yes PPQS is carrying Zippers. Bajan Quilt One Session Thursday May 28th From 10-2pm Cost: $30 Instructor: Sam/Carol This stunning quilt has only 2 blocks and 4 fabrics! We will be using the Creative Grid Flying Geese Ruler. We will finish all cutting and make 1 of each block in class! Page 5

6 Celebrate Ohio Monthly Sessions Fridays from 10-1pm Instructor: Carol May 29, June 19, July 24 There are no openings in this class currently. A new class will be beginning in the fall. This class is stuffed full of techniques. Thus far we have conquered; paper piecing, English paper piecing, hand embroidery, needle turn applique, basic piecing, circular foot etc Unfortunately there is no picture of the quilt! Keep this class in mind if you are wanting to learn loads of techniques! One Line At A Time Workshop Monthly Sessions June 1, July pm +/or 5-8pm Cost: $25 Instructor: Joanne This class is designed for anyone who has taken the beginning One Line Class. Each month Joanne will teach you new quilting designs and there will be time in class to practice, practice, practice. Inchie paper is becoming our new best friend!! Contact this shop if you would like to be put on pre-registration list. Beginning Quilting 7 Weekly Sessions Tuesdays June 2 July 14th 10-1pm Cost: $105 (payments may be split) Instructor: Carol All my secrets are in my seam allowance! This beginning class is great for learning the basics; fabric selection, tools, cutting, piecing, battings, quilting and binding! Page 6

This is another one of our fun, sew, eat and Binding Basics Wednesday June 17th from 10-1pm Cost: $25 Instructor: Jean/Carol Binding is one skill that we find we all need a refresher course on!! We will teach straight, bias binding and binding with a flange. You will actually sew binding onto a small square block! Diva Wallet Monday June 15th Pre cutting Session: 5-6pm Do you want help cutting? Cost: $5 Class: 6-8pm Come with your fabrics cut. Cost:$20 This wallet is excellent. Thin, compact, metal clasps and many compartments! A great wallet for all of you who have made the Barbados Bag!! Sammy Snowman Machine Embroidery Class 2 Sessions Thursdays June 18 & 25th From 2-5pm Multi-format Design Cost: $35 + CD Instructor: Chris Page 7

8 Photo Transfer Project 2 Sessions Mondays June 22 & 29 From 6-8pm Cost: $25 Instructor: Carol I will teach you how to make your own photo transfers onto fabric. We will make a small wall quilt that you can personalize with your own photographs! Farmer s Window Table Runner 4 Sessions Fridays June 26, July 3, 10 & 17 From 10-1pm Cost: $60 includes pattern Instructor: Jean This is a Judy Niemeyer project. This is a good project to begin to learn Judy s techniques because it is small and manageable! This is a paper piecing project! JANOME Binding Foot Demo Wednesday June 24th 10-11am Cost: Free Instructor: Jean See how you can apply perfect mitered binding without touching a needle or thread! Bagette 3 Sessions Wednesdays July 8, 15 & 22 From 10-1pm Cost:$45 Instructor: Sam/Carol This is another great organizer. Plastic insert pockets can be added to increase carry spaces! 9 Quilt Shop Class Schedule Back 2 Basics 3 Sessions Thursdays July 2, 9 & 16th From 6-8pm Cost: $25 Instructor: Carol This lecture series is excellent for anyone who quilts, sews etc.. I will be covering needles, threads, & sewing machine maintenance! It doesn t matter if you have been sewing for 50 years, these are topics that most of us do not understand and have a great effect on our projects. Crazy Snowmen Machine Embroidery Multi format design 3 Sessions Thursdays July 23, 30 Aug. 6 From 2-5pm Cost: $45 Instructor: Chris These embroidered snowmen will make you smile. The alternating blocks are crazy patch blocks and we have used Creative Grids Crazy block ruler to make assembly simple! Rag Quilt 2 Sessions Saturdays July 11 & 18th 1-3pm Cost: $25 Instructor: Carol/Jean Our sample is in progress, so there is no picture yet! We will be teaching the basics of rag quilting; which means accuracy is not crucial, the project is quilted as you go and they are super comfy & guys love them. We are using our new spectacular patriotic flannels! Because Day! Friday July 31st From 10-4pm Cost: $10 + pattern Bring a dish to share This is another scheduled sew, eat and have fun day! Project to be determined, but mark your schedule!! Page 9

10 Get er Done Day! Saturday June 27th Noon-4pm Cost: $15 Bring any projects that you are working on and lets get them finished, started, or just get some moral support...!!! We will be working on our own projects, so we will be available to help you with anything you need help with! Shop Hours: Monday Friday 10-5pm Saturday 10-3pm Sundays and most holidays we are Closed!
