Use tracing and colouring skills to create the figure on fabric, then free-motion quilt with black thread to emphasize the lines. You will work on one letter/figure in class. Her Gypsy Wife Quilt is absolutely amazing! This introduction class, designed to be the first of three classes, will provide you with necessary information and details to get started on your own Gypsy Wife quilt. Learning materials provided in this first class will include a stylized binder to house all your notes and keep you organized. Or perhaps refresh your memory? Then this class is for you. Learn a few basic crochet stitches and brush up your skills. You will work on a crochet chart which will serve as a handy reference guide for future projects. Practice the most common stitches by creating a flower embellishment to be used on a pillow, bag or other project of your choice. Pre-requisite: NONE! Saturday, September 10, 9-4pm Intermediate level $49/day + book Dear Jane Club is an on-going monthly class, based on the book Dear Jane by Brenda Papadakis, documenting the 1863 quilt by Jane A. Stickle. Discussion and lessons for four new 4.5 blocks and triangles will be given each class, covering the broad range of techniques required to complete this quilt. It s a daunting undertaking, but with a little guidance, you too will complete this masterpiece! Pre-requisite Rotary Cutting and basic piecing skills; book and rulers required. 6 EARTHLY GOODS NEWS page 6 Quilting By Degree Classes Rotary Cutting Basics + More Patti $55, includes fabric Learn basic rotary cutting techniques as well as that perfect 1/4 seam allowance and proper pressing methods to start your quilting journey in the right direction. The basic rotary cutting skills of safety, maintenance and handling of the Olfa cutter, mat and Omnigrid rulers will be covered as you learn to measure and cut geometric shapes and strips quickly, accurately and safely with no templates. With a few simple exercises, you will find your perfect 1/4 seam allowance, crucial for accurate piecing and quilt construction. Finally, you will learn proper pressing techniques which will help you achieve those perfect blocks we all aim for! Pre-requisite: NONE Friday, July 15, 9-4pm Foundation Paper Piecing Patti $55, includes pattern Sometimes called foundation piecing, or paper piecing, this technique consists of sewing pieces of fabric on to a paper foundation, thereby allowing the quilter to construct complicated patterns easily and accurately. If you love long, slender, pointy spikes with precise piecing, you will discover how quickly you will be able to create magic with this technique. Prerequisite: Rotary Cutting Basics Friday, August 12, 9-4pm Appliqué Basics $55, includes handouts, kit optional Open the door to graceful floral or pictorial designs for quilts or garments. Explore several hand and machine applique methods using a heart shape on a six-inch block. Pre-requisite: Rotary Cutting Basics Thursday, August 18 & 25, 6-9pm Machine Quilting $75, includes kit Use your sewing machine with special attachments to create quilting designs on samples. Discover techniques that make using your walking and free motion feet easy and fun! Pre-requisite: NONE Saturday, July 23, 9-4pm

Learn a number of finishing techniques including how to measure your project, calculate binding yardage and apply binding strips with mitered corners and a clean joint finish. Friday, July 8, 9-4pm Quilt Labels, Etc. $49, kit optional Documentation of your quilt is so important for future generations and may increase the value of your work! Learn to make easy and necessary labels for your quilts. Pigma pen, photo transfer and computer printed techniques will be covered. Finish your quilt properly with a hanging sleeve and learn about the care and storage of your finished quilt. Saturday, August 20, 9-4pm Quilting by Degree Program and Grad Club Our Quilting by Degree Program consists of in-depth classes, providing a total of 90 hours of expert instruction in quilt making basics. Each class taken is recorded into a computer database for each participant. These records are kept on file until completion of the full degree program, with no time constraints. After completion of the Quilting by Degree program, you will be invited to attend Grad Club meetings. Each Grad Club event is a visual potpourri packed with ideas to inspire you. Show and Tell, the featured graduate, 'how-to' presentations, 'what's new' at Earthly Goods, connections to our sewing roots and much more! and Wanda always have something exciting and inspiring to share!
