March 18 The evening will start with DCC members being captivated with a presentation of images from the Rockport / Aransas Pass field trip that took place on January Palestine, Texas, located deep in the piney woods, is the home of the 200 acre Davey Park which is famous for its profusion of flowering dogwood trees. The park is open daily from 9am to 5pm. Other attractions in Palestine on the 29th include the Texas State Railroad, which features a narrow gauge train ride that starts at 11:00am, proceeds to Rusk and back to Palestine. It is a 4 1/2 hour roundtrip and the price is $34 per adult. Call for reservations. Other events include a bicycle ride which starts at the train station and goes through Davey Park. There will also be an "Old Time Music" and dulcimer festival at Les Wollam then steps to the podium to give his presentation Well Fires to CEO's Life as a Corporate and Magazine Shooter. Les has traveled the world, and from this experience, gained a versatile and creative eye. From the clichéd "oil well in the sunset" to a CEO in an annual report, Wollam is able to see beyond the cliché and come up with a photo that reflects the subject in an entirely new light; one that interests the viewer, yet reflects far more depth and credibility. "I love the challenge of professional photography. Although we live in an increasingly complex computerized world, it still takes creativity to make the commonplace uncommon," says Wollam. He was born and reared in Oregon, lived in Spain and Japan. Wollam received a bachelor continued on page 18 Saturday, March 29th, Dogwood Trails Field Trip the Museum of East Texas Culture on Micheaux St. Palestine is 100 miles southeast of Dallas. To get there go south on I-45 to Corsicana and then east on US-287 or go southeast on US- 175 to Athens and then south on St-19 to Palestine. Davey Park is on the north side of Loop-256 and is accessible off of N. Queen Street or N. Link Street. Plan to have lunch with the group at 11:30am at Ryan's Steakhouse at 2800 S. Loop-256. Contact Gary Kelly at for more information. The next field trip will be April 19th and/or 20th to the Lady Bird Johnson National Wildflower Center in Austin, and to other nearby wildflower locations.
2 Page 2 February Meetings February 5 Print and projected entries submitted the previous month for the category were viewed along with judges comments. February 19 The evening started with a presentation of images from the Guadalupe Mountains National Park field trip on November About eight members traveled to this area in west Texas. Many of the images captured were filled with bright reds, yellows and oranges as they were there at the peak of the fall season. They also photographed the purple majesty of El Capitan and the luminescent ice in Carlsbad Caverns. Then our speaker and DCC member Eleanore Avery gave her presentation on Patagonia. She started in Buenos Aires, Argentina where she photographed brightly colored buildings and the mausoleum where Eva Peron is laid to rest. Next, Eleanore spent a day traveling the Lake District which was arduous switching from land to water transportation all day as they crossed 4 lakes. But the pictures she showed us made it look worthwhile. Then she traveled to the southernmost city in Argentina which is Ushuaia. Around Ushuaia, wildlife was abundant and Eleanore captured a variety including sea lions and birds. She came away from her trip to the glaciers in Torres del Paine National Park with some exquisitely beautiful pictures of glaciers. Unfortunately the old ice is melting but it reveals a deep blue color. Santiago, Chile is where she ended her trip. March 4 March 18 April 1 Hospitality Schedule It s Your Turn!
