July 15 Eric Neilsen Eric Neilsen Photography has been serving the photographic community with custom printing since Eric was initially based in the San Francisco Bay Area until 1989 when he relocated to Taos, NM. He is currently running his business out of Dallas, TX. Eric Neilsen Photography offers custom printing in Platinum/Palladium prints, Ink Jet Prints, and Silver Gelatin. I also offer workshops in Platinum/Palladium and Silver Gelatin printing here at the Dallas studio. In addition to printing services Eric also offers portraits sittings, and commercial shooting for product and architectural uses. From Mr Neilsons web site e.neilsen.home.att.net, an introduction to the author/artist. I was born in Cleveland, Ohio, in My family moved to the Santa Clara Valley in After spending my early years studying the French horn and performing with symphonies and bands throughout the San Jose and San Francisco area, I turned my artistic talents toward photography and cinematography. I have been active in photography since Although a real interest in photography didn't develop until I entered college, I received early exposure to photography while attending grade school in San Jose, making contact prints and developing film. My involvement in platinum/palladium printing began 1982 when I became Chuck Henningsen's photographic assistant in Portola Valley, California. Although much of my photographic knowledge was based in traditional B&W and color, the addition of the platinum/palladium printing process to my knowledge base was relatively easy for me because of my background in chemistry. Park area of Dallas. I have taught workshops in platinum/palladium printing since Workshop experience includes establishing the Taos Photographic Workshops and Photographic Workshops de Taos, teaching for the Taos art Institute and running the lab for the Photographers' Formulary Workshops in Montana. As a teacher, I believe that sharing the information that allows students to form an understanding of the nuances of printing and the creation of perfect images involves years of learning and tremendous dedication. Every day brings a new situation, and the learning process never ends. I am teaching classes at my studio in Dallas, TX. Check out the current schedule here. I print in color, both Ilfochrome and the RA4 process, B&W and, of course, platinum. In my personal platinotypes, I have printed from original negatives ranging in size from 35mm to 4" x 5", producing prints up to 16" x 20". My commercial platinotypes covers original negatives ranging in size from 35mm to 8" x 10" and prints sizes to 24" x 30". My printing experience has provided a wide range of relative humidity in which to work: from the 80% range in California down to the 15% range in New Mexico. Light sources have included small contact printers, large graphic plate burners, and BL, BLB and Super Actinic black light tubes. In addition to printing and teaching the platinum/palladium process, I also use several other photographic media to render visions from the realms of time and space: the traditional gelatin silver prints, the modern vibrancy of the Ilfochrome (cibachrome) print, and selective coloration of those media to achieve additional depth and feel. "Photography provides me the greatest creative expression in my life. Through photographic images, I attempt to share the feelings that music brings to my soul: serenity, the timelessness of inner and outer spaces, freshness, a sense of belonging to a greater whole." I currently live in the Dallas / Fort Worth metroplex. I have set up my studio in the Fair

12 Page 12 Page 12 President s Message I want the thank our Print and Projected Image chairs. All four chairpersons are doing an great job obtaining judges, handling images and presenting the results. Speaking from experience, I can tell you this is a lot of work. Our membership is rapidly mastering the skills necessary to produce outstanding projected images and participating in the monthly competitions with enthusiasm. But, our print chairpersons are feeling a little ignored. We have a number of outstanding printmakers in the club. But, fewer members have dipped their toe into this stream. I would encourage those who have not tried printmaking to give it a whirl. There are few things in photography as satisfying as holding a beautifully executed print in your hands and sharing that image with others. Good photo quality printers are available for a few hundred dollars which will produce fabulous prints. One can also obtain very good prints at local stores and camera shops at reasonable cost. I would like to volunteer the club's accomplished printmakers to help those who have not yet tried or are just getting started. Just contact me if you are interested in improving your print making skills and I will find someone to give you a hand. Clarification of October competition subject Street Photography We have been asked to clarify the definition of October competition subject. After discussion, the Executive Committee offers the following. Street Photography - A documentary image featuring a subject (human or animal) in a candid situation within a public place. Clarification for shooters and judges ( ). The subject title Street Photography may be a misnomer if taken literally. For this assignment, the image should have the following attributes: Image is a factual representation. Image contains at least one person or animal as the subject. Subjects are acting naturally and spontaneously without being posed. Images must be made outdoors in an urban public setting, such as a street, sidewalk, sidewalk cafe, bus stop, town square, city park, etc. Private property (such as homes or farms), indoor and rural locations are excluded. Also put this in newsletter and send out as a standalone message. Send attachments at the same time Gulf States Converntion Questionaire (see page 18) New Orleans will host the 2009 GSCCC conference. 19 Volume 1, Issue 1 Page 19 Call for Photos I am developing a "hybrid" business that is divided between the provision of informational products and services that are offered both online and through live events, i.e. (individual counseling, group counseling, life coaching, and motivational/educational seminars) to a predominantly Christian audience. The goal is to achieve personal growth, problem resolution, and increase the faith of clients who seek services through my practice. I am attempting to utilize compelling content and high impact digital photography through the website. I am looking to potentially purchase high quality "archived" photography from members similar to that found in: (stock photography, webshots.com, or worship.net). I am interested in "eye-catching" photographs that will produce or make an "emotional connection" with people seeking services within my target audience, i.e. (adult Christians). Photography should be centered around one or more of the following themes: Relaxation/peace/tranquility Inspiration Self-confidence/Accomplishment/Success Hope Family/Togetherness self-reflection/meditation Motivation Happiness/Contentment/Joy Love Faith/Spiritual renewal (Note: A signed release will be required for any photography purchased which will appear on my copyrighted website and or other informational products, and materials). Please do not submit things with advertisements or names on them. Bright photographs, good composition, and color scheme are all important. I am currently not seeking commissioned work, i.e. (only archived work from member's portfolio collections). There may be an opportunity for future repeat business and or commissioned work as the business develops, i.e. (Therapeutic Retreats Calendar). Suggestions for possible beautiful photographs which might meet the above criteria could include: Beautiful vistas Seascapes Nature scenes Islands/beaches Sail boats on water New England Fall Foliage, i.e. (changing leaves) Spring flowers or colorful gardens Mountain climbers Relaxing beach scenes Couple looking into each other's eyes with smile Models of father and son Cruise ship, (by permission if required) Winter Ski Resort Beach Resort Seasonal events geographical images and so on... Landscapes Seasonal changes Sunrise/sunsets Light House New England Church Hot Air Balloons Rising Runner jogging or jumping hurdles Mountain peaks off in a distance Couple holding hands together, (young or old) Religious symbols juvenation/renewal Retreat facilities/resorts, (by permission if required) Dude Ranch Lake Retreat Men's or Women's Retreats I would like to thank you and the Dallas Camera Club for your time and interest in this request.
