June 17 John Murray, Master Photographer, received his Bachelors degree in Business from North Texas State University in He was awarded the Master of Photography Degree from the Professional Photographers of America in John has eighty-nine National Photographic Merit Awards with seventeen International Loan print awards. Three were chosen to be displayed at Florida's Epcot Center. Twice, he won the Past President's Trophy at the SWPA convention. He once received Best Of Show By A Master with a 97 print. He holds many distinguished print awards. 74 out of 88 (84%) prints entered into the National Exhibit since 1987 have achieved Salon hanging. John is one of only thirty photographers to hold the Excellence In Imaging Award presented by the PPA. June 2008 In the photographic business since 1975, John prints, enhances, and mats his own work, and is therefore familiar with much that can be done to the print to improve the appeal of each image. Murray's program, "Training The Viewer To Enjoy The Print" is about achieving impact and gaining viewer attention emotionally, by drawing the viewer into the work itself. As is the test of any true art-- does it appeal to the viewer by making him or her want to be a part of the work? Impact pleasing photographs require good art principles exercised with proper photography, appropriate printing, select print enhancements, and harmonious matting. When the image radiates (called visual polarity), it has impact. We will look at three aspects that can lead impact to our image, causing the eye to vibrate. This photographer recognizes that the viewer of his work will identify value first, then see color, and then perceive line. Without light, there is darkness encompassing everything to see, there is no color and there is no line. It is a regional organization for 35 camera clubs in Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Oklahoma and New Mexico. GSCCC has monthly competitions between the clubs, just like we do locally for our members. Dallas Camera Club members can submit both print and projected images in the monthly GSCCC competitions through our GSCCC Representatives, Kevin Moody and Paula Buzenius. Kevin collects print images and Paula collects projected images for the monthly GSCCC competitions. Both of them will need pictorial (open) and nature images for the June meeting. In addition, there always a need for Photojournalism images. Photojournalism is defined as pictures that tell a story and have not been manipulated. Please bring Kevin and Paula some images and support our club in the regional competition. Be a contributor to next year s winning team. Photoshop Quick Tips Down load and install itunes from Apple ( and search the store for Photoshop podcasts, there are a number of available free instructional videos and how-to s from some of the top photoshop professionals and PhotoshopTV, a weekly program of tips and photoshop news from NAPP National Association Photoshop Professionals.
