Intrductin The Andrid Pipeline Survey Data-lgger is a cmbinatin f an Andrid tablet applicatin in cnjunctin with a MCMiller ibtvm, Bluetth Vltmeter. The ibtvm unit cnsists f an integrated digital vltmeter and an integrated WAAS-enabled submeter GPS receiver. The Andrid PLS app takes advantage f the tablet camera functins t prvide this type f survey supprt if needed. The MCM Pipeline Survey applicatin will execute n mst Andrid tablet brands executing n the latest versin f Andrid perating system sftware. The ibtvm unit is licensed frm MCMiller C. and when used with the MCM Andrid Pipeline Survey (PLS) applicatin, it is detected and cnnected t the PLS app via Bluetth cnnectin prtcl. Pipeline survey data cllected via the Andrid PLS Data-lgger app can be transferred t either a MCMiller PrActive PC-based applicatin r t the MCMiller Andrid-ESD PC-based applicatin. 1

Overview The purpse f the Andrid Pipeline Survey (PLS) app is t cllect vltage data related t the mnitring f the crrsin prtectin status f undergrund steel pipelines. The functin f the Andrid PLS app will include all f the functinality f the MCMiller Gx datalgger PLS app with the exceptins nted later in this dcument. Several types f surveys can be perfrmed. Fr all f the survey types, the peratr will walk alng the pipeline recrding vltages measured at regular intervals. The PLS app will recrd the vltage values and the lcatin f the reading alng the pipeline. Additinal supplemental data can als be recrded. The types f vltage values recrded differ by the type f vltage measurement selected and the methd used t trigger the measurements. The survey types that can be perfrmed by the PLS app are Cntinuus CIS, Trigger CIS, DCVG, DCVG/CIS and Surface Ptential. Detailed infrmatin abut the survey types and hw they are perfrmed can be fund in the CIS, DCVG and Surface Ptential training manuals using a MCMiller Gx data lgger. The user interface fr the Andrid PLS app is similar t the MCMiller Gx datalgger user interface. Slight changes t the user interface fr the Andrid PLS app are mainly due t the difference in screen size and tablet characteristics. Andrid PLS Main Screen An Andrid app menu is prvided (3 vertically stacked dts) that can be used t check PLS app infrmatin and cnnectin ptins. Sme Andrid tablet mdels may prvide the app menu buttn as a physical buttn, directly t the left f the main hme buttn. If yur device is equipped with this buttn, the menu will appear at the bttm f the screen. 2

Functins The PLS app shws a main Functin menu bar at the bttm f the screen. The buttn selectins prvide access t subfunctins that may be used during certain survey events. The first buttn in this sectin f the screen is the Surveys buttn that is primarily used at the start f the PLS app t define a new survey, cntinue r pen an existing survey, t suspend r clse the survey currently in prcess The next set f buttns (survey data mdificatin), (auxiliary functins), (survey ptins) prvide access t functins t view r mdify data that relates t the current survey in prcess r t select auxiliary functins that can be used in situatins encuntered during a survey but withut affecting the current survey data r setups Survey Mdificatins Auxiliary Functins Survey Settings Edit Survey Data: Mdify current survey data n a limited basis Delete Last Reading: Deletes the last reading just taken fr the current survey Add Cmments: Can add a cmment t the last reading just taken fr the current survey. 7 Survey Data Cllectin Objects The PLS Main Screen cntains buttns and fields related t lgging and viewing pipeline survey data. The buttns that are used t lg survey related data are indicated by a dark clr buttns that are indicated by an range clr are used t adjust Flag related data (if used). Data fields are prvided t shw survey lcatin and survey data An area shwn as a whitespace sectin will shw in graphical frmat the prgress f the survey and actins taken during the last 100 readings. The fllwing describes the areas f the PLS Main screen. Lcatin data cnsisting f: Statin: The current survey lcatin. The value shwn is relative t the start f the pipeline survey as entered via the Survey Setup 3 screen Lcatin Value field. This value can be expressed as miles, feet r Statin Number frmat r if metric units are being used; as kilmeters, meters, r Statin Number frmat. Ttal Distance: The current distance surveyed in the survey file. It is always expressed in feet r meters. Last Ref Distance: The survey distance since the last lcatin reference pint (Survey Flag r Knwn Statin). Vltage data is shwn in 2 fields that may vary depending n the type f survey and reading mde: CIS, Single Read Mde Vltage units, V r mv depending n the vltage range Live vltage frm vltmeter with n prcessing CIS, Single Read GPS Sync Mde Vltage units, V r mv depending n the vltage range Live vltage frm vltmeter with n prcessing Sync indicatr, SYNC r NOSYNC 4

Nrmally the Y scale aut ranges but the user can manually set the Y scale using the Auxiliary Functin Grup: Set Graph Scale. When aut scaling; if the data pint in the graph with the highest abslute value is negative, the Y scale will be inverse (negative up/psitive dwn). Single letter labels are using t shw lcatins f Survey Flags, F Ge-Features, G Device Readings, D Marked DCVG r Surface Anmalies, M 7

Andrid PLS Setup Prcess The fllwing sectin describes the screens and their related functins that are referenced frm the PLS Main screen and used t setup, view, r mdify a pipeline survey. Frm the Surveys buttn survey yu can select t setup a New Survey, cntinue an existing survey, r exit a current active New Survey The New Survey screen prmpts the user t enter the survey filename. If the entered name is nt a valid Windws file name, the user will be ntified and prmpted t enter a valid name. Open Survey The Cntinue Previus Survey screen lists the surveys n the Andrid PLS data lgger in alphabetical rder and prmpts the user t select a survey t pen. Clse Survey A Clse Survey selectin will clse the current survey immediately. The Main Screen will revert back t a null presentatin. 8

New Survey Setup New Survey Settings: The survey settings are split acrss 5 setup screens. On sme screens the visible fields will vary depending n the survey type being setup and certain prir settings. These variatins will be nted in the individual screen descriptins. The setup screens 1-5 are shwn in sequence when creating a new survey and will be s nted in the screen header. Nte the variatin in visible fields when GPS Sync is selected frm the ptins related t the Setup 5 screen. Survey Setup 5 f 5 On/Off (GPS Sync) Additinal Fields GPS Leap Secnds field will shw a value that will initially cntain the crrect value (fr year 2018, this value is 18). Subsequent years may require a new value t be entered; MCMiller will ntify users f any change t this value. If s, check the Enable GPS Leap Secnd Edit checkbx and mdify GPS Leap Secnds field t crrect value. 9

Survey Setup 1 f 5 The Survey Type is set when the survey is created and cannt be changed after that pint. The duble arrw t the right prvides selectin chices. See abve fr selectin chices. The Rectifier Mde drpdwn list is used t indicate the state f Pipeline Crrsin Prtectin being used during the survey. See abve fr selectin chices. Fr Surface Ptential surveys Cycle On/Off is nt a valid selectin. Fr DCVG and CIS/DCVG cmbined surveys Cycle On/Off is the nly valid selectin. The Cane Buttn(s) Allwed T: sectin is used t select the functins f the push buttns n the electrde canes (AKA data prbes). The setting applies t bth the left (red) and right (green) cane buttns. The Device chice selects the functin f the buttns fr the Device Reading (AKA Data Cllectin Pint) screen. Selecting Nne means that n actin will be taken when the push buttn is pressed. Tapping the Read buttn n the Main screen will lg the survey reading. Selecting Save means that the device reading will be saved when the push buttn is pressed. The Survey chice selects the functin f the buttns fr the Main Survey screen. The left (red) and right (green) cane buttns can be set t the same functin r t different functins. Depending n the Survey Type selected, the buttn chices can vary. Fr a Cntinuus CIS survey the functin chices are Flag which marks a Survey Flag; and Pause which suspends the taking f a reading (tggling between pausing and resuming the taking f readings). Fr Trigger CIS, DCVG and Surface Ptential surveys the functin chices are Flag which marks a Survey Flag; and Read which lgs a survey reading. Fr DCVG/CIS cmbined surveys the right (green) cane buttn is nt available and the nly cane buttn functin chice fr the left (red) can buttn is Read which lgs a survey reading. Yur Survey Lcatin selectin f Increasing r Decreasing will depend n yur walking directin ver the pipe with respect t the pipe s statining. Yu wuld select Increasing if the statin number will be increasing as yu perfrm the survey and yu wuld select Decreasing if the statin number will be decreasing as yu perfrm the survey. The Survey Other sectin prvides survey chices that may be applicable t the Survey Type that was selected. The Use Digital Trigger Cable checkbx specifies that an autmatic triggering cable is being used with the selected CIS survey. Nte: with this specificatin, the Distance Per Reading field n the Setup 3 screen shuld be set t 2.5 feet (r 1 meter), since the cunter is calibrated fr this distance. The Enable DCVG Sidedrains in CIS Surveys checkbx is shwn nly fr Cntinuus CIS and Trigger CIS surveys. When checked the Mark DCVG device reading will be enabled. The Sil Resistivity Distance Units sectin is shwn nly fr Surface Ptential surveys. Yu will have the ptin t manually enter a value fr sil resistivity measured at the lcatin f a marked SP anmaly, which will allw the PrActive sftware t calculate a Crrsin Factr value. The units Ω.cm r Ω.m fr sil resistivity that will appear n the SP anmaly marking screen, fr yur manual data entry, will depend n yur selectin here in the Sil Resistivity Distance Units field (CM r M) 10

The DCVG Anmaly Max mv = Tt mv 1st read checkbx is nly visible fr DCVG and DCVG/CIS cmbined surveys. If this bx is checked, the Max mv vltage recrded at an anmaly lcatin will autmatically becme the first vltage value used by the data-lgger s sftware t calculate the Ttal mv (ttal vltage gradient). Otherwise, if this bx is un-checked, yu will have t repeat the Max mv recrding a secnd time as part f the Ttal mv determinatin prcess. The Use Metric checkbx, if checked, sets the reading interval (distance between triggered readings) and the flag internal (survey flag spacing) t be displayed n the Setup 3 f 5 screen in meters, as ppsed t feet. 11

Survey Setup 2 f 5 The GPS selectin shws a chice f which GPS resident hardware t use Nne means that n GPS lcatin data will be lgged Internal means that yu have selected t use the GPS supprt in yur Andrid tablet ibtvm means yu have selected the GPS supprt in the ibtvm, which has sub-meter supprt The Aut Lg GPS drp dwn list sets hw ften the GPS psitin will be included in the data when a survey reading is lgged. The chices will be : Never, meaning that GPS lcatin data will nt be lgged when a survey reading is lgged. Every Reading, every survey reading will als have its GPS lcatin data lgged. Every 2 Readings, every 2 nd survey reading will als have its GPS lcatin data lgged. Every 5 Readings, every 5th survey reading will als have its GPS lcatin data lgged. Every 10 Readings, every 10th survey reading will als have its GPS lcatin data lgged. The Max PDOP value can be set frm a lw f 0.5 t a high f 10.0 in increments f 0.5 PDOP is a value indicating the relative accuracy the GPS data. The lwer the PDOP the higher the accuracy. The Max PDOP is just a warning value. The peratr is alerted if the PDOP is higher than the Max PDOP setting. The AC Cycle chices are 60 Hz and 50 Hz. Select 60Hz fr all U.S. applicatins. This is an imprtant selectin with regard t the AC filtering system that s applied t all f the DC vltage channels. The Max. Far/Near Diff value cntrls a recnnect alarm fr CIS surveys. The value is the maximum allwable Percent difference between the Recnnect Far Grund device reading and the Recnnect Near Grund device reading. If the difference is greater than the limit, the Far/Near grund reading Errr will be shwn. This setting is nly visible fr Cntinuus CIS, Trigger CIS and DCVG/CIS cmbined surveys. The Lw Vltage Alarm value cntrls an audible vltage alarm fr CIS surveys. A value f 9999 disables the alarm. If a negative value is entered the alarm wuld sund when the survey vltage is less negative than the alarm setting. Fr example, if the alarm value is vlts then a survey vltage f -0.7 vlts wuld trigger the alarm and a survey vltage value f -0.9 vlts wuld nt trigger the alarm. This setting is nly visible Cntinuus CIS, Trigger CIS and DCVG/CIS cmbined surveys. The Use GPS fr Altitude checkbx, if checked, will lg altitude data in additin t the Lat/Lng data whenever GPS data are lgged. (Nte: Altitude data n sme GPS units are nt particularly accurate). The Lg GPS: selectin checkbxes specifies whether GPS data is t be lgged autmatically At Flags and/r At DCP/Features when encuntered At Flags specifies that GPS data will be lgged autmatically at survey flags when either the flag buttn is tapped (directly n the Survey Main screen) r when the push-buttn switch n the designated flag cane is pressed. At DCP/Feature specifies that GPS data will be lgged autmatically when a Device buttn is tapped n the Survey Main screen and a Device reading is lgged. If the Feature buttn is tapped n the Survey Main screen and a ge-feature is registered. At Side Drain/Anmaly checkbx will be shwn nly fr Surface Ptential, DCVG and DCVG/CIS cmbined surveys. GPS data will be lgged autmatically fr marked anmalies. If this bx is checked, GPS data will be lgged autmatically when SP anmalies are marked. 12

Survey Setup 3 f 5 Entering data fr the Name f Pipeline and Pipeline Sectin is ptinal and any text data r n data will be accepted. These fields can be helpful when the pipeline survey is transferred t PrActive t identify where the survey was taken Survey Lcatin: During the initial survey setup, the Survey Lcatin is the lcatin fr the start f the survey n a pipeline. It is entered when the survey is created and cannt be changed by the user after that pint. The Survey Lcatin can be the actual pipeline lcatin fr the start f the survey (if knwn) r it culd be a relative starting pint (0+00) f the survey. If it is a relative starting pint, then the actual start f the survey can be determined when the survey is transferred t PrActive. NOTE: When viewing this screen frm the Survey SettingsSurvey Segment Settings screen, the Survey Lcatin field will shw the current survey lcatin f the survey and editing f the value is disabled. The lcatin will be stred based n the setting f the Use Metric checkbx frm the 1 st setup screen. Feet if the Use Metric is unchecked r meters if checked. Lcatin Values: A selectin list t the right f Lcatin Values cntrls hw lcatin values will be displayed. Statin Number, in the statin number frmat the lcatin value is displayed as the text value f the lcatin in feet with a + inserted between the tens digit and the hundreds digit. Fr example, if the lcatin in feet is then the statin number frmat wuld be If the feet value is less than 100 the leading zers will be used as in If using metric the + ges between the hundreds digit and the thusands digit f the lcatin in meters. Fr example, meters, displayed t 1 place t the right f the decimal pint (Meters if using metric) Milepst, miles displayed t 4 places t the right f the decimal pint (Kilmeters if using metric). Feet, feet will be displayed t 1 place t the right f the decimal pint (Meters if using metric). Distance Between Flags: yu can type in the survey flag interval (distance between survey flags) fr the sectin f pipeline being measured, assuming that survey flags have been laid ut. Typically, survey flags are lcated at 100 feet intervals. In such a case, yu wuld have a new reference (a statining crrectin) every 100 feet. Nte: If survey flags are nt in use, enter zer in this field. In this case, tapping accidentally n the Flag buttn will nt adversely impact yur statining. Distance Per Reading: yu can type in the interval distance, in feet (r meters fr the metric case), expected between readings. Typically, in CIS wrk this expected interval distance is 2.5 feet (r 1 meter in the metric case). Nte: 2.5 feet (r 1 meter) shuld be selected fr the Distance Per Reading when readings are t be triggered using an autmatic triggering cable, since the cunter is calibrated fr this distance. Flag Errr Limit: Is a percentage based n the maximum permissible errr between the actual number f readings lgged between 2 survey flags and the expected number f readings. Fr example, if the maximum permissible errr is set t 20% in the Flag Errr Limit If the reading interval (Distance Per Reading) is expected t be 2.5 feet and the survey flag separatin (Distance Between Flags) is 100 feet, this means that 40 readings are expected. If, hwever, nly 30 readings are actually lgged between survey flags, an errr windw will appear n the screen, since there is a 25% difference between the expected and actual number f 13

readings in this example. N errr windw will appear if the difference is less than 20%. Fr this example, yu culd have a minimum f 32 readings and a maximum f 48 readings between survey flags t stay within the 20% (max.) errr allwance. Aut Pacing Mde: This is ptinal If the checkbx is checked, yu wuld like the readings t be unifrmly spaced between any tw survey flags, regardless f the actual lcatins f the readings between the tw flags. By checking the bx labeled, Aut Pacing Mde, yu will enable the data-lgger t autmatically adjust the reading lcatins in rder t evenly-space the readings between tw survey flags. Data Prbes: In the case f the Trigger CIS mde, yu can use ne data-prbe r tw data-prbes fr the CIS. Highlight the apprpriate radi buttn, based n yur situatin. Aut Learn Read Rate: This checkbx nly appears fr a Cntinuus CIS survey and is ptinal In Cntinuus CIS mde, readings are lgged based n timing. Fr example, if yu indicate that yu require 40 readings t be lgged between 100 ft survey flags and that it will take yu 60 secnds t walk 100 feet (Time Between Flags), the data-lgger will lg readings every 1.5 secnds. Yu can have the data-lgger learn yur walking pace, which might turn ut t be different frm 60 secnds fr 100 feet, by checking the bx labeled Aut Learn Read Rate. In which case, the sftware will adjust the timing between lgged readings accrdingly in rder t target 40 lgged readings between 100 ft survey flags, in this example. Time Between Flags: field nly appears fr a Cntinuus CIS survey It is an estimated value that represents the time in secnds that it will take t walk the distance that yu specified fr the Distance Between Flags field. Nte: Pre-measured (equally-spaced) survey flags are required fr Cntinuus CIS and, if the pipeline des nt run thrugh an pen area, extensive pausing may be required. 14

Survey Setup 4 f 5 Wrk Order: This field is ptinal enter the wrk rder number assciated with the survey, if knwn. Technician Name: This field is ptinal enter the name f the persn perfrming the survey. Cmments/Descriptins: This field is ptinal yu can enter any general cmments yu might have regarding the survey (perhaps weather cnditins, sil cnditins, special circumstance, etc.). Survey Name: This field is nt mdifiable it shws the name f the survey that was specified at the time f the survey setup via New Survey Survey Date: This field is nt mdifiable it shws the date f the survey at the time f the survey setup via New Survey creatin Pipeline survey data is lcated in the pipelinesurvey flder n yur Andrid tablet. The survey readings data and wavefrms fr a survey are lcated in the plsdata.db SQL database. Flders having the same name as the name specified fr a pipeline survey are created in the pipelinesurvey flder fr the purpse f cntaining pictures/phts that may have been taken during a survey, 15

Survey Setup 5 f 5 The Reading Mde list shws the vltmeter reading prcessing types available fr selectin. Up t 5 chices are available fr selectin. Yur selectin f reading mde shuld be made with reference t yur previus selectin f Rectifier Mde frm the Setup 1 screen and current-interrupter Cntrl being used n the pipeline being surveyed. Single Read: This reading mde wuld be selected if yu were perfrming a nn-interrupted CIS, with either the rectifiers ON cntinuusly [Always ON] r OFF cntinuusly [deplarized pipeline]. On/Off (DSP): This vltmeter mde wuld be selected if yu were perfrming a rectifier currentinterrupted CIS. In this mde, the sftware uses digital signal prcessing (D.S.P.) t determine the vltage during the ON prtin f the interruptin cycle and the vltage during the OFF prtin f the cycle, fr each successive cycle. Nte: A measurable difference between the ON and the OFF vltage readings is required fr this reading mde, (ie, a measurable IR drp is required). Nte: In this reading mde, yu d nt have t cncern yurself with selecting recrding times fr the On and Off readings, fr each cycle, with respect t the On-t-Off transitins and the Off-t-On transitins f the wavefrm, as the sftware determines apprpriate lcatins n the wavefrm fr yu. This is in cntrast t the GPS Sync reading mde (see belw). On/Off (Min/Max): This reading mde shuld be selected if yu were perfrming a rectifier currentinterrupted CIS and there was cnsiderable interference indicated n the wavefrm. In such a case, in the absence f well-defined steps (IR drps), the sftware determines an average value fr the maxima and an average value fr the minima ccurring in the wavefrm as being representative f the On and the Off value per cycle. On/Off (GPS Sync): This reading mde can nly be selected if yu are using the ibtvm GPS receiver AND GPS cntrlled current-interrupters. Nte: A primary feature f this reading mde is that the readings data are GPS time-stamped. Therefre, applicatins such as telluric current cmpensatin tls can be applied t such data. With this reading mde, yu can select the recrding times n the wavefrm fr bth the On and Off readings, with respect t the On-t-Off transitins and the Off-t-On transitins f the wavefrm, as ppsed t the sftware determining apprpriate lcatins n the wavefrm fr yu (as in the case f the On/Off (DSP) reading mde see abve). With this reading mde selected, the screen will display additinal fields that require setup infrmatin. Single GPS Sync: This reading mde is similar t the Single Read mde except that in this case the datalgger uses the GPS clck signal t assciate readings with the actual time they were made. Nte: Currently, nly the ibtvm GPS Receiver can be selected fr this reading mde. Nte: A primary feature f this reading mde is that the readings data are GPS time-stamped. Therefre, applicatins such as telluric current cmpensatin tls can be applied t such data. DCVG: This reading mde selectin is shwn when a DCVG survey type has been specified n a Setup 1 screen 16

DCVG GPS Sync: This reading mde selectin is shwn when a DCVG survey type has been specified n a Setup 1 screen The Range list sets the vltmeter range. The recmmended setting fr Range fr CIS is ±5.7 Vlts DC, which prvides an assciated input impedance value f 400MOhm. This setting prvides a relatively-fast respnse time (~80 ms), which is imprtant in fast cycle interruptin applicatins. Als, the 400MOhm input impedance minimizes reading errrs assciated with any high surce resistance measurements, and, the ±5.7 V DC Range shuld be suitable fr mst On and Off CIS reading values. The chices are: 40 mvdc 10 MOhm 400 mvdc 10MOhm 5.7 VDC 400 MOhm 40 VDC 75 MOhm 57 VDC 75 MOhm 57 VDC 400 MOhm 400 VDC 75 MOhm 570 VDC 75 MOhm 40 VAC 75 MOhm 400 VAC 75 MOhm Fr the On/Off readings mdes, Cycle On and Off setting fields will be shwn. The specific Cycle On and Cycle Off times are setup based n the times that the current interrupters have entered fr On and Off times. Nte: Ideally, the interruptin cycle perid (On time plus Off time a single wavefrm cycle) shuld be less than the time between triggered readings n a CIS r DCVG survey. Fr shrt wavefrm perids (1 secnd, fr example) this is nt a cncern, as a typical walking pace wuld translate t a time between triggered readings. Hwever, care shuld be taken if lnger wavefrm perids are in effect (fr example, several secnds), in which case a slwer than nrmal walking (and triggering) pace wuld have t be emplyed in rder t avid recrding several same value readings until the wavefrm data are refreshed (i.e., until a new cycle f data is used). f greater than 1 secnd. Cycle On: The On time setup n the current-interrupter fr the pipeline being surveyed. This time is entered in millisecnds. Cycle Off: The Off time setup n the current-interrupter fr the pipeline being surveyed. This time is entered in millisecnds. The field values entered fr On Delay and Off Delay shuld be based n knwledge f the current-interrupter wavefrm, particularly in terms f any transitin spiking. The idea is t select sampling times that will avid any spiking. Fr example, if 150 ms was selected fr the Off Delay, the data-lgger wuld recrd the vltage value sampled 150 ms after the rectifier-current was switched frm the ON t the OFF state. Als, if 150 ms was selected fr the On Delay, the data-lgger wuld recrd the vltage value sampled 150 ms after the rectifier-current was switched frm the OFF t the ON state. The use f the Wavefrm selectin frm the auxiliary functins described previusly can help in determining these settings. On Delay: The time the vltage value is stable when sampled after the current was switched frm the OFF t the ON state. This time is entered in millisecnds. Off Delay: The time the vltage value is stable when sampled after the current was switched frm the ON t the OFF state. This time is entered in millisecnds. Cycle Start = On->Off: This checkbx reflects the state f hw the current-interrupter was setup t start if yur interruptin cycle starts with the current in the ON state (the first transitin is frm ON t OFF), check the checkbx if the current-interrupter start was setup in the OFF state (the first transitin is frm OFF t ON) uncheck the checkbx 17

PLS Survey Transfer t PrActive As mentined in Pipeline_survey_data all PLS raw data resides in the pipelinesurvey flder n yur Andrid tablet. This survey data can nw be transferred t MCM s CP data management system, PrActive, which allws integratin f pipeline survey data in a database system and ffers extensive reprting (bth textual and graphical) capabilities n the survey data. The transfer f the pipeline survey data t the PrActive sftware (residing n the user s PC) is accmplished via the Andrid tablet being cnnected t the PC via a USB cable. The PC must have the Windws Mbile Device Center applicatin and a USB driver with Andrid Debug Bridge (ADB) capability installed. A driver with ADB capability may be dwnladed frm the tablet brand s website being used with the PLS applicatin. The PrActive Surveys functin with a Data Lgger specificatin f Andrid will invke driver sftware t perfrm the survey transfer. A backup f the pipeline survey data during the transfer can be accmplished by specifying the Cpy t Lcal Flder ptin and a directry path/flder t save the data. A successful transfer will result in 2 data bjects being saved: PLS survey name flder PLS survey name.db1 The PLS survey name is the name f the survey as it was created/specified n the PLS app The flder bject will cntain any pictures/phts taken during the survey. The.db1 filetype is a SQL database cntaining the survey data and any wavefrm data A successful Surveys functin will update the PrActive database tree t reflect any Devices r Anmalies that were fund during the survey. The PrActive Srvy Editr functin can then be used t review survey data. The belw picture shws the results f the transfer f a CIS survey example t PrActive. The Entire Database windw shws the database tree updated and the Pipeline Survey Editr windw shwing the survey data key elements. 34

Selecting the Graph type in the IRD Line and then clicking the Graph tab will shw the transferred survey data Nte: checking the Inf checkbx shws an additinal level f detail fr the transferred survey. This level f detail shws that Devices, Features, Pictures, and Wavefrms were specified during this survey 35

DCVG Survey Screen Supprt Unlike Clse Interval Ptential Surveys (CIPS r CIS), Direct Current Vltage Gradient (DCVG) surveys d nt invlve an electrical cnnectin t the pipe, ther than, temprarily, t determine IR drp values at pipe cnnectin lcatins. Instead, readings n DCVG surveys invlve sil-t-sil ptential difference measurements, as ppsed t pipe-t-sil ptential difference measurements. DCVG surveys are perfrmed in the rectifier-current ON/OFF mde, ie, the rectifier current is switched ON and OFF in a cyclic fashin. This allws sil-t-sil ptential differences t be recrded during the ON prtin f the current cycle and als during the OFF prtin f the current cycle. T understand mre f the physical principles related t perfrming DCVG surveys, ne can review the MCMiller DCVG Training Reference dcument. The fllwing sectin describes Andrid PLS app screens having fields related t DCVG survey supprt DCVG Survey Setup Screens Setting-up fr a NEW DCVG type survey, setup screens 1, 2 and 5, nte selectable fields, nrmally defaulted. Max mv = Ttal mv 1st Read if checked, the Max mv vltage recrded at an anmaly lcatin will autmatically becme the first vltage value used by the data-lgger s sftware t calculate the Ttal mv (ttal vltage gradient). Otherwise, if this bx is unchecked, yu will have t repeat the Max mv recrding a secnd time as part f the Ttal mv determinatin prcess. If this bx is checked, GPS data will be lgged autmatically when DCVG anmalies are marked DCVG surveys are perfrmed with the rectifier-current switched ON and OFF in a cyclic fashin, the DCVG selectin prvides this Reading Mde, [Same as On/Off (DSP)] The ther available chice is DCVG GPS Sync. Nte: DCVG surveys require a measurable difference between On and Off vltages, i.e., they require a significant IR drp. 36

DCVG Survey In Prcess Screens The On and Off pipe-t-sil ptentials measured (per cycle) at the starting test statin will be displayed n the Device Readings screen. Make sure that the checkbx labeled, Use Reading fr DCVG Signal Strength is checked. This will mean that the sftware will have its first value fr IR drp t use in its %IR calculatins. The abve prcedure shuld be perfrmed at each pipe cnnectin pprtunity (test statin) s that the sftware will be able t apply apprpriate IR drp values fr each bracketed marked anmaly. As yu enter a defect s vltage gradient field, yu will bserve an increase in the DCVG vltage values displayed n the Survey screen. When yu bserve a peak (maximum value) in the DCVG vltage readings, yu wuld interrupt the triggering t perfrm the Mark prcess. Yu will ntice that the sftware autmatically applies the Max mv value as the first value in the Ttal mv determinatin. Yu shuld then prceed t mve the electrdes t their secnd psitins and yu shuld Accept the secnd reading. Yu shuld prceed in this fashin until yu are utside f the defect s vltage gradient field, ie, the DCVG vltage reading is essentially zer (typically DCVG vltages less than abut ±5mV wuld be cnsidered essentially zer, n the 5.7V, 400MΩ vltmeter setting). At this pint, yu shuld tap n the Save buttn which will save all f the data assciated with this defect. Yu return t the main survey screen, nte the M marker 37

Subsequent taking f pipe-t-sil ptentials shuld be perfrmed at each pipe cnnectin (Test Statin) pprtunity s that the sftware will be able t apply apprpriate IR drp values fr each marked anmaly. Nte the bracketing f a marked anmaly by test statins fr this example in the main survey screen graph area DCVG Survey Transfer t PrActive As mentined in PLS_Survey_Transfer_t_PrActive all PLS raw data resides in the pipelinesurvey flder n yur Andrid tablet. A successful Surveys functin will update the PrActive database tree t reflect any Devices and/r Anmalies that were fund during the survey. The PrActive Srvy Editr functin can then be used t review survey data. The belw picture shws the results f the transfer f a DCVG survey example t PrActive. The Entire Database windw shws the database tree updated and the Pipeline Survey Editr windw shwing the survey data key elements. 38

Selecting the Graph type in the FMN_Line-5 Pipeline and then clicking the Graph tab will shw the transferred survey data Nte: checking the Inf and Pints checkbxes shws an additinal level f detail fr the transferred survey. 39

Surface Ptential Survey Screen Supprt The Surface Ptential (SP) pipeline survey methd is similar t the DCVG survey methd, at least in terms f hw the reference electrdes are emplyed t measure the difference in ptential between tw pints n the surface f the sil abve a buried pipeline. SP surveys, hwever, are typically perfrmed n uncated r prly-cated pipelines, whereas DCVG surveys are usually perfrmed n well-cated pipe that has an impressed current surce prviding the signal strength. Lcalized current flw can give rise t ptential gradients n the surface f the sil abve a buried pipe due, fr example, t the presence f crrsin cells (cmbinatins f andic and cathdic areas) n the pipe, and the gal f an SP survey is t lcate such ptential gradient fields. In the case f bare pipe, typically nly abut % f the pipe will be subject t galvanic crrsin and, in additin, typically this small percentage is made up f small, highly-lcalized, crrsin areas (andic areas) that are randmly-distributed alng the length f the pipe. Thus, an abve-the-grund survey technique that can accurately lcate these islated areas is invaluable. The bjective f SP surveys is t lcate andic areas existing alng a segment f pipeline, as evidenced by ptential gradient fields having a particular plarity presenting themselves n the surface f the sil directly abve the andic areas. Once any andic areas have been lcated, remedial actin can be taken, such as the installatin f sacrificial andes t suppress current flw frm the crrding area, with a view t preventing further external crrsin in that particular area. One way t perfrm a SP pipeline survey is t use the, s-called, In-Line methd. In this case, the reference electrdes are bth psitined ver the pipe and their separatin is kept fixed as the peratr, r peratrs in the case f large electrde spacing (fr example, a 20 feet spacing), walks dwn the length f the pipeline sectin. With a view t detecting lcalized andic areas and accurately measuring the lngitudinal vltage prfile, the survey needs t be clse-interval in nature. The In-Line methd f cnducting SP surveys. Sil-t-sil ptential difference readings are pltted in the bttm part f the Diagram against the psitin alng the pipeline f the center pint between the reference electrdes T further understand Surface Ptential survey Physical Principles and Survey Methds, it is recmmended that reader refer t the Surface Ptential Surveys Training Manual - Gx Versin.pdf dcument. 40

Surface Ptential Survey Setup Screens Setting-up fr a NEW Surface Ptential type survey, setup screens 1, 2 and 5, nte selectable fields, are nrmally defaulted. Yu can select either, Always On, if the rectifiers influencing the pipe are ON, r, Always Off, if the pipe is unprtected r is temprarily deplarized. Nte: The Cycle On/Off ptin is nt available fr Surface Ptential surveys as the prcess invlves cell-t-cell ptential difference single readings. T calculate a Crrsin Factr value in PrActive, the units Ω.cm r Ω.m fr sil resistivity that will appear n the SP anmaly marking screen, fr yur manual data entry, will depend n yur selectin here in the Sil Resistivity Distance Units field (CM r M) If this bx is checked, GPS data will be lgged autmatically when Surface Ptential anmalies are marked. The Single Read vltmeter reading mde is apprpriate fr cell-t-cell ptential difference single readings, which are the basis f Surface Ptential surveys. 41

Surface Ptential Survey In Prcess Screens The First tap f the Read buttn (r cane buttn) will lg an initial displayed value in the tp mv field. At this pint the bttm mv Prir field will be blank. As successive readings are lgged, the last lgged reading (the prir reading) is displayed in the bttm Prir mv field and the current reading is displayed in the tp mv field. On the abve example screen, the prir reading was 40.2 mv and the current reading is negative mv. In this example, a psitive-t-negative plarity switch has been detected, which means that an andic area has been detected. This pssible anmaly can then be marked by taking side drain readings n bth sides f the pipe at the epicenter lcatin. Tapping n the Mark buttn n the Survey screen will bring-up the Side Drain screen. By placing the negative data-prbe ver the pipe (at the epicenter spt) and the psitive data-prbe ff t the left-hand side f the pipe, yu can accept the Side Drain Left (SDL) reading by tapping n the Accept buttn. Next, yu wuld keep the negative data-prbe ver the pipe and yu wuld swing the psitive data-prbe t the ppsite side f the pipe (the right hand side) t take the Side Drain Right (SDR) reading. Next, yu can manually enter a value fr the sil resistivity measured in the vicinity f the anmaly. At this pint, yu shuld tap n the Save buttn which will save all f the data assciated with the anmaly. The Clear buttn will clear the lgged data fr the active reading. 42

Surface Ptential Survey Transfer t PrActive As mentined in PLS_Survey_Transfer_t_PrActive all PLS raw data resides in the pipelinesurvey flder n yur Andrid tablet. A successful Surveys functin will update the PrActive database tree t reflect any Devices and/r Anmalies that were fund during the survey. The PrActive Srvy Editr functin can then be used t review survey data. The belw picture shws the results f the transfer f a Surface Ptential survey example t PrActive. The Entire Database windw shws the database tree updated and the Pipeline Survey Editr windw shwing the survey data key elements. Selecting the Graph type in the FMN_Line-6 Pipeline and then clicking the Graph tab will shw the transferred survey data Nte: checking the Inf and Pints checkbxes shws an additinal level f detail fr the transferred survey. 43

Andrid PLS Exceptin Screens When setting-up PLS surveys where a difference with respect t Flag separatin distance and/r between Far Grund and Near Grund P/S readings at a recnnect Test Statin d nt meet specified survey setup criteria, an exceptin screen will be presented fr the user t take actin. In the field labeled, Distance Between Flags, yu can type in the survey flag interval (distance between survey flags) fr the sectin f pipeline being measured, assuming that survey flags have been laid ut. Flag Errr Limit specifies the maximum permissible errr between the actual number f readings lgged between 2 survey flags and the expected number f readings. By setting the field labeled, Flag Errr Limit yu can type in the maximum permissible errr. Fr example, the maximum permissible errr is indicated as 20% n the Survey Setup 3 f 5 screen. If the reading interval is expected t be 5 feet and the survey flag separatin is 100 feet, this means that 20 readings are expected. If, hwever, nly 15 readings are actually lgged between survey flags, an errr windw will appear n the screen, since there is a 25% difference between the expected and actual number f reading in this example. N errr windw will appear if the difference is less than 20%. On the Flag Errr screen the user can specify the crrect number f Flags since the last knwn statin. On the Survey Setup 2 f 5 screen, the Max Near/Far Diff: field will represent a threshld level with respect t the difference between a Far-Grund P/S reading and a Near Grund P/S reading (expressed as a percentage) recrded at a trail wire recnnect Test Statin. Fr differences abve the entered threshld value, Far/Near Grund Errr screen will be presented. The Far/Near Grund Errr screen will present 2 ptins: Retake Near Accept This Errr By selecting Retake Near, yu are given the pprtunity t retake the Near-Grund P/S reading (perhaps yu need t re-d the cnnectin). If the percentage difference is then belw yur threshld level, there will be n errr screen. By selecting the checkmark, yu will be chsing t ignre the difference in the readings and mve n with the survey (perhaps there is a significant current flwing in the pipe between the 2 test statins). 44
