3 1 Hardware descriptin 1.1 ting started Befre switching n the instrument, the sensr shuld be plugged int the scket lcated n the frnt panel f the instrument. If the sensr is equipped with a thermstat an additinal scket is beside the sensr input. Please cnnect the instrument with the wall plug transfrmer. The hst cmputer must be cnnected via serial interface r USB. The cnnectrs are fund n the rear f the instrument. It s imprtant t cnnect the amplifier t grund. Nw the instrument may be switched n. The green LED n the frnt f the instrument indicates an existing vltage. During initializatin prcess the red status LED is flashing. If it is finished crrectly, the LED is ff. The instrument is nw ready t receive cmmands. A shrt flashing f the red led during measure indicates an ver-range. A blinking red led (ca. 1Hz) indicates an internal errr. Yu can read and clear the errr by cmmand (3.3.2). 1.2 Principle f A/D-cnversin The device cntains a high precisin phtcurrent t vltage cnverter which prduces a maximum f 10 vlts. It is cnnected t a vltage t frequency cnverter which is driven by a frequency f 1MHz. The integrated micrcntrller cunts the frequency f the cnverter during the adjusted integratin time perid. This means yu will get a bit-reslutin dependant n the integratin time. When an integratin time f 20ms is selected a maximum pulse cunt f can be btained which is equivalent t 14 bit. An integratin time f 100ms will lead t a bit reslutin f 16. Please make sure that yu select an integratin time which is a multiple f the signal peridic time, e.g. if yu measure a lamp which perates at 50 Hz, the minimum integratin time will be 20ms (r multiples f 20ms), therwise the sampled values will be wrng. 1.3 Under-range / Over-range Cnditins Under-range: Over-range: average vltage is lwer than 0,66V. average vltage is greater than 9,5V r the analg cmparatr has detected a spike at the cmparatr threshld (9,5V) 1.4 Trigger There are different kinds f trigger. 4 2 Interface descriptin CZIBULA & GRUNDMANN GMBH The phtcurrent amplifier can be equipped with the fllwing interfaces: RS232 RS485 USB All interfaces have the same cmmand set. With them yu can cntrl the amplifier, make readings and update the firmware. All instructins will be sent as an ASCII-string. The serial RS232/RS485 prt is set t the fllwing parameters ( N 1) by default. Yu can change the baud rate by sftware cmmand (3.3.6). The answering time f the device depends n the cmmand. Fr a simple query f parameters a minimum reactin time f 10ms is preadjusted. Fr measurement cmmands the device will need the integratin time plus ca. 6 ms prcessing time. All cmmands have t be terminated by Carriage Return [CR = 0x0D]. 2.1 Serial RS232 Interface T cnnect the RS232 serial interface yu have t use a DSUB-9 standard cable (withut crssver). A hardware handshake is supprted. When the instrument is ready t receive cmmands, the RTS-Line is set. 2.2 RS485 Pin 2 and 3 f the DB9-cnnectr are the pins used fr RS485 data transmissin. (Pin3 RS485A, Pin2 RS485 B, Pin5 GND) Please keep this in mind when using a RS485 adapter, which des nt autmatically switch between transmit- and receive line Card addressing The RS485 cnnectin allws multiple (up t 13) devices parallel cnnected t a 2 wire bus. (0x00 0x0C) Please nte that the bus cnnectin has t be a twisted pair cable t avid disturbance frm ther electrnic devices. The amplifier might be addressed by a HEX-switch. Usually this switch is in psitin 0, s the card will answer fr address 0. The integrated sftware allws sending the card-address befre the cmmand t talk nly t a single card. If this card address is nt sent, all cards will be addressed autmatically. This allws a cmmn trigger fr all cards cnnected t the bus. The measured signals may be queried separately. If a cmmand desn t reply a parameter, e.g. by setting parameters, an OK will be sent if n errr ccurred. Otherwise an ERROR (3.3.2) will be sent. In Mde X1 n answer will be sent. If an errr ccurred it will be stred internal. Yu can ask fr it by instructin. 2.4 Firmware update If a sftware update is required, it can be dne with a PC-prgram by serial interface r USB. 2.5 Interface cmpatibility Yu switch the Amplifier t be cmpatible with PhAmp Versin V1. 8 3.2 Measurement Trigger Tx T? Tx x Trigger mde [0..5] As described befre there are fur different trigger-mdes implemented: 0: Internal trigger The device measures cntinuusly. When sending the cmmand measure (M?) yu get the last valid reading. 1: External sftware trigger (by cmmand) The device is in standby. When the measure (3.2.2) received, the device starts measuring. When finished the reading will be send r stred in the transmit buffer. Nte that yu have t set the valid range befre execute the trigger. If aut-range is enabled and the current range is nt valid, the aut-range rutine will switch the range after every trigger until a valid range was fund. 2: External hardware trigger (edge)(ptinal) If the device is equipped with an external trigger-input (pt-cupler r difference signal) yu can use this mde t make synchrnus measurements. The device is in standby. When detecting a hardware trigger, the device starts measuring. When finished the reading will be send r stred in the transmit buffer. Yu can cntrl the external interrupt sense (trailing, rising edge). Nte that yu have t set the valid range befre execute the trigger. If aut-range is enabled and the current range valid, the aut-range rutine will switch the range after every trigger. The minimum delay between tw triggers is the integratin time plus prcessing time (2). Trigger parameter Mde 2: x TRGEDGEx TRGEDGE? TRGEDGEx Sense cntrl (0-falling,1-rising edge) 3: Intern autmatically Yu have t set with the cmmand TRGPARM a delay between the single measurements and the number f measurements. T start the measuring prcedure yu have t send the cmmand M? nce. After this yu have t read the measured values cntinuusly until all values were received. Nte that the amplifier is nt able t handle cmmands until measurement is finished. Yu have t switch the best range fr the whle measurement r enable the aut-range. 9 If the aut-range is enabled the amplifier switches int the valid range autmatically. When an ver-range r under-range during a measurement ccurred, the current reading will be marked (under-range / ver-range (see frmat settings 3.2.4), and the range will be changed. TRGPARM s.ms nnn s.ms Delay between trigger [s.ms] e.g. 15ms [0.015] nnn number f measurements The minimal delay between tw autmatic measurements is the integratin time with a reslutin f 1ms. 4: External sftware trigger (by grup cmmand) This mde is t trigger multiple amplifiers n ne bus (nly RS485). The amplifiers take a measure and stre the result in a result buffer. If single addressed the answer cntains a OK, if grup addressed n answer will be sent. Yu get the reading with the cmmand: Trigger parameter Mde 3: VAL? a.aaaae-n /Errr a.aaaae-n Reading (frmatting depends n the mea frmat) If n trigger befre get the reading yu will get an errr. 5: 1 External hardware trigger (level) (ptinal) If the device is equipped with an external trigger-input (pt-cupler r difference signal) yu can use this mde t make cntinuus measurements. The device is in standby. When detecting a hardware trigger, the device starts measuring. When finished the reading will be send and the next measure will start immediately. Yu can cntrl the external input level sense (high active, lw active). Nte that yu have t set the valid range befre execute the trigger. If aut-range is enabled and the current range valid, the aut-range rutine will switch the range after every trigger. 10 3.2.2 Measure Depending n trigger mde there are different mdes fr measurements. In trigger mdes 0, 1 and 2 yu will get ne single reading. It will be sent immediately t the Hst-PC r it will be stred in the transmit buffer. In trigger mde 3 yu start the autmatic measurement, receive the readings cntinuusly until measure is finished. 12 3.2.6 Aut range Enable this mde fr handling the best range setting autmatically. If an ver range during measurement ccurred and the current range is higher than the minimum range, the range will be decreased. If an under range ccurred and the current range is lwer than the mst sensitive range, the range will be increased. Enable RA RA? After running the dark current cmpensatin the amplifier measures the ffset cunts in all ranges. This ffset will be subtracted autmatically if the measurement running in pht current r illuminance mde (s ). In mde cunts and vltage this ffset cmpensatin has n influence t the measured values. 14 Inverting the plarity f the analg input Yu can invert the input plarity with this cmmand t measure negative input signals. T use this feature an ptinal hardware is needed. 15 3.3 Cmmn functins Internal Clck If the device was switched n r the cmmand clear time was sent, the timer increases cntinuus with a reslutin f 1 ms up t 2 32 ms.
