Summer Art Classes at Mills Pond Gallery...a wonderful opportunity for children to explore their creativity within the colorful and vibrant surroundings of a contemporary art gallery. Open to children of all experience levels. Always new projects for students taking multiple weeks/same classes! All classes will run with 5 students so get your friends together for some fun creativity! Weekday classes for ages 5-16 ~ Saturday classes for ages 7-12 ~ Teen classes ages Fantasy Art for Teens July 9, 10, 16, 17 Ages am 2:30 pm $190 Learn to combine drawing from your imagination and drawing from observation to create impressive fantasy art. Using graphite and colored pencils we ll work on simple techniques to make your beasts, demons and strange creatures come alive! Your instructor Amal is a professional illustrator and fine artist whose work has been widely published and exhibited for traditional and educational children s books, magazines, posters, fine art galleries in the US and abroad. Register Early...limited space available. All materials included. Junior Fashionistas July 9 11 Ages am 12 pm $125 It s never too early to get into fashion. Students will learn everything they want to know about the fashion world and how to draw beautiful fashion figures and clothes. Lace, sequins, glitter, shimmer fabric and buttons are just a few of the things we ll use to embellish our collections. A must for any budding designer. Instructor: Irene Tetrault Painting Flowers July 9-11 Ages pm $125 Painting large scale flowers in the style of Georgia O Keefe. Little Artists will learn about this Master artist and paint large scale flowers from observation. Instructor: Patricia Caracappa Cartoons, Characters and Storyboards July 9 13 Ages am 12 pm $190 Full Day Available This class gets really creative as we develop stories to go along with our artwork! In cartooning, we will focus on learning basic cartooning and storyboarding skills. We will create and develop our own characters and storylines. Kids explore media such as acrylic paint, charcoal and pastel to create original art featuring their favorite fuzzy, finned and feathered companions! Bring photos from home or choose from the class stash (dogs, cats, horses, birds, lizards and more). Water Soluble Oils July Ages am 12 pm $125 Full Day Available In this workshop, we will build a water soluble oil painting. Students will learn how to start an underpainting in tempera, to a finished painting in water soluble oil colors. We will explore various painting techniques and applications. We will experiment with how water color interacts with different things like salt and lemon juice while creating amazing artwork! Instructor: Kim Falco Art and Ecology July Ages pm $190 Full Day Available Young scientists will love this class! Our incredible living planet inspires so much of what we see as wondrous in art. Come on a journey of learning about the natural world and its celebration through art. Explore a different ecosystem each day (oceans, rainforests, deserts) and discuss the plants and animals that inhabit them. Art projects (primarily painting, but also some mixed media) feature the ecosystem and animals of the day. We begin by brainstorming & sketching our creatures using a combination of imagination and real-life animal reference photos. Then we transfer those creatures to canvas and infuse them with beautiful acrylic color! Instructor: Ivy Berg Fashion Illustration Workshop Junior August 6-8 Ages am 12 pm $125 Attention future design stars! If your child is interested in fashion, this fun workshop is for them. Learn how to draw the fashion figure and how to dress it. Techniques are covered on how to draw all kinds of styles such as sportswear, casualwear, cruise wear and evening gowns. Students will also be taught how to execute different fabrics and embellishments like plaids, fur, leather, sequins and lace. Beginners are welcome and former fashion students are welcome to extend their skills. Work from beautiful photos of familiar and wild animals and plants to create brilliant textural acrylic paintings! Color is our friend and guide as we capture our beautiful world in strokes of light, swirls of a brush and dabs of a sponge! 7 page 7 of 7 pages We urge you to register at least 2 weeks before the beginning of a class session, since minimum enrollment of 5 students must be met for a class to be held. If a class does not meet minimum enrollment, your full payment will be refunded. Registration is complete only when payment and registration form have been submitted. The links to the registration form and credit card payment may be found on our website at bottom of the page. Sorry, we cannot hold a place in a class without payment/registration forms. We do not pro-rate fees due to planned absences, illnesses, vacation schedules or other conflicts. Only students who join a class after missing the first week will be prorated. Students may bring nut-free snacks, drinks and lunches (full day). Please make sure your child s food/drinks are labeled with their name. We have a refrigerator if needed. The gallery has central AC, so if your child tends to chill easily, please send an old sweatshirt.
