All programs are free with general admission. Admission for visitors 18 and younger is always free. Explore how to use texture and color to bring the ocean to life. Step Outside Thursday, July 12, 1:00 3:00 p.m. Look to the sky to see how the movement of the sun inspired the Impressionist painters Monet, Pissarro and Renoir to depict nature and light. Create your own Impressionist landscape inspired by the natural colors found in the Museum s garden. Art Becomes Fancy Thursday, July 19, 1:00 3:00 p.m. Learn to recognize and create elements of Rococo art, including pastel colors, birds and romance, with Fragonard, Tiepolo and others. Design a Rococo clock using some of the forms and colors in the paintings you ve seen, or invent your own. Who Feels What Color? Thursday, July 26, 1:00 3:00 p.m. Look at color based on feelings with Vincent van Gogh and other Expressionist artists. You can become an Expressionist artist by using bold colors and marks to invent an exciting composition that expresses your feelings. Finish by crafting an original cardboard frame for your next masterpiece. Arranging a Still Life Friday, August 10, 6:30 7:30 p.m. Expand the definition of the still life by exploring the Museum s collection and then design your own. Draw fruits, flowers and other curious objects. Building a Family Friday, September 14, 6:30 7:30 p.m. The sculptor Henry Moore used abstract shapes to create expressive works of art. Look at his sculpture of a family, and use fun foam forms to make a three-dimensional portrait of your own family. Get inspired by the Museum s collection, then design and illustrate your own cast of colorful characters. All materials are provided. 5 For Children Ages TEEN ARTS ACADEMY Shaping Expression: A Sculpture Workshop Saturday, August 11, 1:00 4:00 p.m., and Sunday, August 12, 1:00 4:00 p.m. Join artist and educator Roderick Smith as he explores the expressive power of sculpture in this two-day workshop. Participants are introduced to a selection of the Museum s 20th-century sculptures and discover how artists use three-dimensional forms to convey emotional and aesthetic values. Following the discussion, Smith leads a workshop in which participants are encouraged to use symbols and abstract elements to create their own works of art in clay. Space is limited to 18 participants; advance registration is required and can be made at nortonsimon.org/education/teens. About the Norton Simon Museum The Norton Simon Museum is known around the world as one of the most remarkable private art collections ever assembled. Over a 30-year period, industrialist Norton Simon ( ) amassed an astonishing collection of European art from the Renaissance to the 20th century, and a stellar collection of South and Southeast Asian art spanning 2,000 years. Modern and Contemporary Art from Europe and the United States, acquired by the former Pasadena Art Museum, also occupies an important place in the Museum s collections. The Museum houses more than 12,000 objects, roughly 1,000 of which are on view in the galleries and gardens. Two temporary exhibition spaces feature rotating installations of artworks not on permanent display. Location: The Norton Simon Museum is located at 411 W. Colorado Blvd. at Orange Grove Boulevard in Pasadena, Calif., at the intersection of the Foothill (210) and Ventura (134) freeways. For general Museum information, please call (626) or visit Hours: The Museum is open from noon to 6 p.m. every day except Tuesday and noon to 9 p.m. on Friday. Admission: General admission is $10 for adults and $7 for seniors. Members, students with I.D., and patrons age 18 and under are admitted free of charge. Admission is free for everyone on the first Friday of every month from 6 to 9 p.m. All public programs, unless stated otherwise, are free with admission. The Museum is wheelchair accessible. Parking: Parking is free, and no reservations are necessary. Public Transportation: The City of Pasadena provides a shuttle bus to transport passengers through the Pasadena Playhouse district, the Lake Avenue shopping district and Old Pasadena. A shuttle stop is located in front of the Museum. Please visit for schedules. The MTA bus line #180/181 stops in front of the Museum.
