1 Williamsville C.U.S.D. #15 Fine Arts Curriculum Program Title: Program Description: Elementary Art is a study of the language of the arts, the creation and understanding of how works of art are produced, and knowing the role of the arts in civilization, past, and present. Shape Geometrical shapes (circle, oval, square, triangle, rectangle); Organic shapes (natural, irregular, uneven) d. Texture Actual texture (what you feel with hands); Simulated (textured rubbings); Invented texture (drawing or painting to resemble a texture) e. Space Positive versus negative space; Foreground, middle ground, background f. Value Lights and darks create three values; Monochromatic shading (mixing paints) g. Form Identify and create 3-D objects (height, length, thickness; sculpture; kiln; potter s wheel; function versus visual interest) Principles of Design a. Balance Symmetrical, asymmetrical, radial, distribution of weight in a picture b. Movement Eye directed from one element to another c. Rhythm Repetition of visual movement, regular rhythm, irregular rhythm d. Contrast Opposites, shape contrast, color contrast, value contrast, texture contrast e. Emphasis Center of interest, focal point f. Pattern Art elements used in a planned repetition g. Unity Relation of objects 1. Identify and create feelings (moods) in an artwork happy, sad, excited, mad. 2. 4 4 1. Create a line drawing that expresses an individual idea using markers, pencil, and crayons. 2. Create a painting with brush strokes and tempera paints. 3. Create a work using simple printing techniques, i.e., stamping, cardboard, styrofoam, marbles, etc. 4. Create a three-dimensional form using paper, found objects, cardboard, paper mache, clay, etc. 5. Create work using materials and media from various art sources such as found objects, household objects, or fabric. 6. Create work using simple fiber techniques, i.e., weaving, stitchery. 7. Demonstrate the safety, care, and use of media and tools. A. Apply skills and knowledge necessary to create and perform in one or more of the arts. 1. Demonstrate the knowledge and skills to create visual works of art using manipulation, eye-hand coordination, building, and imagination. 2. Demonstrate the knowledge and skills to create works of visual art using problem solving, observing, designing, sketching, and constructing.
