1 2013 Children s Summer Art Program Where every child is an artist! Class and Registration Information: To Register: Sign up in person at the Kings Art Center, located at 605 North Douty Street in downtown Hanford. Or download the registration form on our website, and either mail or drop it off along with class fees at the KAC. Class Fees: Class listings indicate the cost of each class as prices vary. Class fees include all materials unless noted. Class fees are not prorated and refunds are not issued for missed days. Membership Discount: Class listings also indicate the amount members can deduct as their discount. It pays to be a member sign up today! Membership forms are available in the office and online. Registration Policy: Enrollment is on a first-come, first-serve basis. To guarantee a place in any class, tuition must be paid at the time of enrollment. Register early! Classes not meeting minimum enrollment will be cancelled and refunds or credits will be issued. Cancellation Policy: Tuition is non-refundable and forfeited unless a written cancellation notice is submitted at least one week (7 days) prior to the start of class. A $5.00 handling fee will be charged on cancellations. Scholarship Program: A limited number of scholarships are available for any child showing an interest in art, who might otherwise be unable to participate. 2 June 10 th 14 th : Clay Play I & II It s time to play with clay! Students will learn the fundamentals of clay building techniques, including pinch, coil, and slab creation methods to create pots, vessels, tiles and sculptures! A messy good time! Clay Play I Ages: 5-7 Time: 8:30-10a.m. $40 (members deduct $4) Clay Play II Ages: 8 & up Time: 10:30a.m.- 12noon $50 (members deduct $5) Garden Art Instructor: Bob Sandoval It s time to make some outdoor art! Students will learn how to make tile mosaics using sea shells, egg shells, and rocks, butterfly art, hanging spirals, and more! Garden Art Ages: 7-10 Time: 1-2:30p.m. $40 (members deduct $4) Duckorate! Learn to decorate with duct tape! Students will learn how to turn an everyday item into a glamorous piece of art! Duckorate! Ages: 10 & up Time: 8:30-10:30a.m. $50 (members deduct $5) Creative Print Making This class gets our stamp of approval! Students will learn to design their very own prints using assorted techniques, stamps, colors, free-hand drawings and mediums. Creative Print Ages: 5-7 Time: 11:00a.m.-Noon $40 (members deduct $4) June 17 th -21 st : Nature Art I & II in the Style of Andy Goldsworthy Time to go green! Students will learn about British artist Andy Goldsworthy, an Eco-Artist who transforms nature into art, photographs his creations, and then returns them all to nature! Students will have fun exploring nature and learning how to create things from only those objects found in the natural world. *Optional published photo book is available for an additional $15, see class instructor for more information. Please allow 2-3 weeks from end of class for delivery. Nature Art I Ages: 8 & up Time: 8:30-10a.m. $30 (members deduct $3) Nature Art II Ages: 5-7 Time: 10:30a.m.-Noon $30 (members deduct $3) Water Wonders: Whales, Dolphins and Sharks I & II Instructor: Tedra Battaglia Venture under the sea with this amazing class where students will draw, color, paint, and collage to bring underwater creatures to life! Water Wonders I Ages: 5-7 Time: 9:00-10:00a.m. $40 (members deduct $4) Water Wonders II Ages: 8 & up Time: 10:30a.m.-Noon $40 (members deduct $4) Grid Kids Learn the art of grid drawing using pencils, oil pastel, and paint! Students will create various projects and put their newly learned techniques to work creating a wall mosaic. It s time to get gridding! Grid Kids Ages: 9 & up Time: 1:00-3:00p.m. $40 (members deduct $4) Art Around the World Ever wondered what art in other parts of the world looks like? Now is your chance to learn all about it and then make it yourself! Explore the wonderful world of art! Art Around the World Ages: 10 & up Time: 12:00-1:00p.m. $40 (members deduct $4) June 24 th -28 th : Art Like an Egyptian! Learn about the awesome art of the ancient Egyptians! Students will use tools, techniques and materials, to create their own Egyptian relics. Plus, students will work together to create a giant 3D pyramid sculpture! Art Like an Egyptian! Ages: 7 & up Time: 10:00a.m.-Noon $50 (members deduct $5) Bead & Jewelry Making Ever wanted to create one-of-a-kind, handmade jewelry? Then this is the class for you! Students will first learn the art of making their own beads and then turn those beautiful beads into handcrafted, unique jewelry! Art Like an Egyptian! Ages: 10 & up Time: 1:00-2:00p.m. $45 (members deduct $4.50)
3 Learn En Plein Aire: Drawing & Painting Instructor: Diana Leoni It s time to take your art outside! Students will head to the nearby Civic Center to enjoy the fresh air while learning the basics of outdoor sketching and painting, including landscapes and architecture. Outdoor art is all about having fun, enjoying your surroundings, and creating your next outdoor masterpiece! Learn En Plein Aire Ages: 8 & up Time: 8:00-10:00a.m. $50 (members deduct $5) Bugs! Bugs! Bugs! Instructor: Diana Leoni Learn how to create creepy, crawly, colorful art projects inspired by some of nature s smallest creatures bugs! Students will learn drawing techniques and how to use and mix a variety of cool paints. Bugs! Bugs! Bugs! Ages: 5-7 Time: 11:00a.m.-Noon $40 (members deduct $4) Let s Get Messy Outside! Explore your imagination and get messy while making unique and creative art projects to express your inner artist! Students will experiment in new, exciting methods in the great outdoors. Messy Outside! Ages: 5-7 Time: 9:30-10:30a.m. $40 (members deduct $4) Holiday Week: July 1 st -3 rd : (3 day class) Scribble Me Happy Who knew scribbles could be art? Learn all the basic drawing skills through the art of Scribblery! Students will learn line, shape and texture through scribble drawings. Learn how to see with the eyes of an artist! Scribble Me Happy Ages: 5-8 Time: 9:30-10:30a.m. $25 (members deduct $2.50) Time to Tie-Dye! It s time to get real with realism! Students will learn their design elements of this specific style while documenting their work in a drawing journal. Time to Tie-Dye Ages: 10 & up Time: 10:30-11:30a.m. $20 (members deduct $2) *Students required to bring items they wish to tie-dye. (For example, t-shirts, pillowcases, bags, etc.) Clay Play Paint Studio Now that the clay creations are fired and ready to go, it s time to turn them into beautifully painted projects! Clay Paint Studio Ages: All ages Time: 11:00a.m.-Noon $20 (members deduct $2) *This class is for students who took Clay Play I or II to paint their work. Draw Anything! It s time to get real with realism! Students will learn their design elements of this specific style while documenting their work in a drawing journal. Draw Anything! Ages: 9 & up Time: 1:00-3:00p.m. $25 (members deduct $2.50) Let s Luminate Make a beautiful hanging or tabletop patio lantern by transforming a simple glass jar using wire, beads and paper. Just in time for your festive 4 th of July party! Let s Luminate Ages: 7 & up Time: 8:00-9:00a.m. $30 (members deduct $3) The Wonderful World of Wire! Time to get wired! Students will learn how to manipulate wire to create 2 and 3 dimensional works of art! World of Wire Ages: 7 & up Time: 9:00-10:00a.m. $30 (members deduct $3) July 8 th -12 th : Mask Making Design and create a magnificently cool mask using jewels, beads, feathers, paint and more to make it as unique as you are! Students will learn how to manipulate different mediums to create a one-of-a-kind piece. Mask Making Ages: 10 & up Time: 10:30a.m.-Noon $50 (members deduct $5) Clay Creature Creations Time to take clay and get creative! Students will create creatures from their imagination out of clay, then paint, decorate and name their crafty creatures. Creature Creations Ages: 8 & up Time: 8:30-10:00a.m. $50 (members deduct $5) Party With Piñatas! Instructor: Susie Gonzalez It s time to papier-mâché! Students will learn how to make piñatas in tons of fun shapes, including pigs, fish, ice cream cones, ladybugs and bees. Everyone will be buzzing about this fun class! Party With Piñatas! Ages: 5-10 Time: 10:30-11:30a.m. $30 (members deduct $3)
4 Zentangle Get Zen! Students will learn the importance of the visual elements and textures through free form designs. Zentangle Ages: 5-9 Time: 9:00-10:00a.m. $40 (members deduct $4) July 15 th -19 th : Sculpt It Like the Masters I & II Learn to sculpt in the style of Claes Oldenburg! Students will plan and construct a largescale sculpture by picking everyday objects and enlarging them using cardboard, tape and paint to make pop art projects. Sculpt It I Ages: 5-7 Time: 8:30-10:30a.m. $40 (members deduct $4) Sculpt It II Ages: 8 & up Time: 1:00-3:00p.m. $50 (members deduct $5) Papier-Maché Instructor: Pat Brown A perfect environmentally friendly craft for all ages, papier-maché is easy to make using tools and easy-to-find materials. The name comes from the French word meaning chewed paper. Papier-Maché Ages: 9 & up Time: 9:30-11:00a.m. $30 (members deduct $3) Fun With Fairies & Elves Learn to make these cute creatures come to life through drawing, painting and more! Fun with Fairies & Elves Ages: 7 & up Time: 8:00-9:00a.m. $40 (members deduct $4) Exploring the Masters Instructor: Bruce Kane Learn about a new master artist each day before experimenting with their style and technique. At the end of the week, each child will bring home a portfolio of their work! This class is designed to prepare kids for the class, Mastering a Master s Work, where students will choose one master's style and technique to work on throughout the week. Exploring the Masters Ages: 10 & up Time: 1:00 2:30p.m. $40 (members deduct $4) July 22 nd -26 th : Amazing Animals of Australia I & II Instructor: Tedra Battaglia It s time to head down under, mates! Students will learn how to draw various Aussie animals, like koalas, kangaroos, crocodiles and more, and all about mixing colors, composition and techniques. Amazing Animals I Ages: 5-7 Time: 9:00-10:00a.m. $40 (members deduct $4) Amazing Animals II Ages: 8 & up Time: 10:30a.m.-Noon $40 (members deduct $4) Paint Like Monet Discover the history of Claude Monet and learn the painting techniques he often used, including dabbing! Students will learn the art style of one of the masters of impressionistic painting and create their own masterpieces using Monet s famous painting style. Paint Like Monet Ages: 10 & up Time: 1:00-3:00p.m. $40 (members deduct $4) Adventures in Art Elements Instructor: Susie Gonzalez Explore a new art element each day of the week! Students will learn all about lines, shapes, textures, space, forms and colors. Adventures in Art Ages: 5-7 Time: 10:30-11:30a.m. $30 (members deduct $3) Manga in Color! Instructor: Che Gilson Learn the fun fundamentals of this popular style of drawing, including cartooning, anatomy and coloring! Manga in Color Ages: 10 & up Time: 1:00-3:00p.m. $50 (members deduct $5) Mastering a Master s Work Instructor: Bruce Kane Practice various mediums, participate in creativity exercises, and work on a single art piece in the style and technique of a master artist. This class is designed to expand a child's experience in the class, Exploring the Masters, in which they will learn about 5 different master artists and experiment with their style and technique over the course of a week. Master s Work Ages: 10 & up Time: 1:00 2:30p.m. $40 (members deduct $4) *Students required to take Exploring the Masters class first.
5 July 29th-Aug 2 nd The Great Illuminator Journey back to medieval times to learn the art of illuminated manuscripts! Students will learn the history of medieval arts while creating a personal Coat of Arms, an illuminated scroll, and scribing their name in old world script, called calligraphy. The Great Illuminator Ages: 8 & up Time: 9:30-11:30a.m. $40 (members deduct $4) Garden Art Instructor: Bob Sandoval It s time to make some outdoor art! Students will learn to use plastic, wood, doll rods, tape, and cloth to create their very own mixed media kite. On the last day, students will fly their beautiful creations! Kite Making Ages: 5-7 Time: 8:00-9:00a.m. $40 (members deduct $4) Clay Creations It s time to use your imagination and create a vessel work of art! Students will begin by drawing and coloring their idea then making it come to life in clay! All creations will be painted. Clay Creations Ages: 5-7 Time: 10:0-11:30a.m. $50 (members deduct $5) Mean Mug Metal Instructor: Glen Gonzalez Tool time! Students will learn how to manipulate metal into awesome shapes using hammers, screwdrivers and more! Mean Mug Metal Ages: 10 & up Time: 1:00-2:30p.m. $50 (members deduct $5) Drawing Mythical Creatures Instructor: Che Gilson Use your imagination to dream up mythical creatures and then make them come to life in your drawings!
