1 Nature in Art s Activity Days 2019 Museum and art gallery dedicated to art inspired by nature!
2 Important Information Nature in Art runs a variety of holiday activity sessions for children throughout the year. All cost just 6 and include entrance to the gallery for one adult and one child. All activities need to be booked in advance via: (Click the learning tab at the top of the page) Please note: If PayPal does not let you book a place then the session is full. Our activities use age-appropriate materials and techniques. 3 Save the Dates! FAMILY FUN DAYS! We are delighted to say that we will be organising three Family Fun Days throughout the year. Monday 27th May An Otter Experience Daphne Neville will be here to share her passion and knowledge for otters. She will be accompanied by one of her furry friends for you to meet. We will also be doing otter related art activities. Saturday 20th July. Walk with Hawks! Come along for arts and crafts based around birds of prey. Walk with Hawks will also be here and will bring some of their birds hawks, falcons, owls - for you to meet and learn about. Friday 30th August. Discovery Day! Come along for an educational and fun day with Cheltenham Science Group, who will be demonstrating different science experiments.
4 February Half -Term. With Spring around the corner, this weeks activities will be based around the garden, plants and helping the wildlife. Tuesday 19th February Plant Pot Creation. To start the week we will look at how to turn an ordinary plant pot into a fantastic creation in which you can grow a flower or simply use as decoration to brighten your room. Wednesday 20th February Decorate a Plant Pot We will have fun decorating a plant pot using different materials and media - painting, mosaic, natural materials etc. Thursday 21st February Willow Garden Decoration Using willow sticks and other natural materials we will make decorations and bird feeders that can be hung in the garden. Friday 22nd February Plant Pot Bird Feeders Give the busy little birds a helping hand by up-cycling plastic pots into bird feeders and watch as different birds come and feast at your creations.
5 Easter Holidays. Hammers at the ready! This week we will be using hammer and nails to build/create fantastic things. Tuesday 9th April Bug Hotel. All creatures great and small need somewhere warm and safe to stay. These bug hotels provide a perfect hiding place and are a fantastic opportunity for your little ones to observe and learn more about bugs. Wednesday 10th April Robin Nesting Box. This nesting box provides protection for Robins as they make their nests ready for their eggs. Thursday 11th April String Art. Still using our hammers and nails and wool we create these stunning pictures. Friday 12th April Clock Making. Functional and fabulous! These clocks will make a great addition to your bedroom. We will provide all the parts, all you have to do is design your clock.
6 Easter Holidays. This week we will be preparing for Easter. Tuesday 16th April Decorate an egg. We will be looking at different ways we can decorate a plastic egg painting, sticking things onto it. Wednesday 17th April Easter/Spring Batik. A favourite of ours! Using hot wax to create the outline and fabric paints to colour the picture we will make stunning Spring/Easter designs. Thursday 18th April Egg Shell Mosaic. We will use painted egg shells to make an egg mosaic! Friday 19th April Easter Wreath. Decorate your home with a beautiful Easter wreath. Who knows the Easter bunny may leave another egg for you to enjoy!
7 May Half-Term. Calling all knights and ladies! This week we will be going back in time and doing all things medieval to get us ready for the Tewskesbury Medieval Festival happening in July. Tuesday 28th May Make a Helmet. Even the bravest of knights need a helmet to protect their heads. We will be using cardboard to make our helmets. Wednesday 29th May Coat of Arms/Banner. A coat of arms/banner identified which house you fought for and therefore which side you were on. We will be using different materials to make our coat of arms/banner. Thursday 30th May Clay Tower. It s amazing what you can make with a lump of clay and some imagination. We will learn different techniques in modelling clay and will make a castle tower. Friday 31st May On Target. Take aim! And Fire! In this session we will be making a catapult and testing to see how far and accurately we can fire things.
8 Summer Holidays. Are you up for the challenge? We will start the holidays with some fun challenges for you to complete. Wednesday 24th July Boat Challenge Using only natural materials, found in our garden, we will build a boat. Will your boat float? Will it be strong enough to hold weight? Will it withstand waves? Thursday 25th July Egg Challenge. Birds are very clever and can make a nest to keep their eggs safe. Unfortunately some nests fall out of the tree and the eggs smash. We are going to think about ways we can protect an egg from smashing when dropped at a height. Friday 26th July Monet s Bridge Challenge To finish the challenges we will be building a bridge over Monet s Lilly Pad Pond. Will your bridge be strong enough to stay up? To support weight?
9 Summer Holidays. Masks are an easy, fun activity to do. We will look at making different types of masks, using various materials and techniques. Tuesday 30th July Bird Mask. To start the week we will make a bird mask and decorate it using feathers. Wednesday 31st July African Inspired Mask. These colourful masks are inspired by African style masks. We will look at how to make the mask symmetrical and the effects that using different colours will have on the overall appearance. Thursday 1st August Animal Mask Choose from a selection of animal masks to make, using card for the base and then materials to add texture. Friday 2nd August Natural Bark Mask. Using only natural materials, found in our garden, we will design a tribal style mask.
10 Summer Holidays. Art with a difference. To start the week we will look at ways artists have had to adapt in order to paint. We will then finish by using different materials to create different effects. Tuesday 6th August Inspired by Michaelangelo. Michaelangelo spent years painting the Famous Sistine Chapel and most of the painting he did lying on his back. We will be inspired by Michaelangelo and will paint a picture while lying on our backs. Wednesday 7th August No Hands Needed! Not everyone is able to use their hands to paint, and the paintings they create are amazing. We will be attempting to paint without using our hands. using our feet or mouths instead. Let s see what masterpieces we can create. Thursday 8th August Foil Art. Using sharpies to colour on foil creates these stunning metallic pictures. Friday 9th August Mixed Media Animals. Animals come in all shapes and sizes and have different textures, patterns, colours etc. We will make mixed media animals and create texture using different materials.
11 Summer Holidays. We can all do our bit for the environment by recycling our waste or up cycling things so that we don t produce as much waste. In this week we will use our artistic talents to up cycle different materials. Tuesday 13th August Plastic Flowers. We will be looking at how to turn a plastic bottle into a flower. We will create hanging and standing flowers. Wednesday 14th August Magazine Bowl. Magazines are fun to read and when finished we can use them to create useful things like bowls. Thursday 15th August Hot off the press! Newspapers are not just for reading and can be used for more than papier mache. We will be creating different things from flowers to pencil pots. Friday 16th August Ocean Collage. Earlier this week we upcycled the bottle, now we will be using lids to create an ocean collage. We will each create an individual piece and add them together to make a community picture.
12 Summer Holidays. The Artist in Residence this week is Liz Brooke-Ward, who is a textile artist and creates amazing pieces using fabrics. This weeks activities are inspired by this and we will be using different fabrics to create our own textile art. Tuesday 20th August Flower Batik. Starting with a favourite. Using hot wax to create the outline and fabric paints to colour the picture we will make stunning flower pictures. Wednesday 21st August Fabric Bowl. We will be making a papier mache bowl, but instead of using newspaper, we will use pieces of fabric, making your bowl instantly attractive and colourful. Thursday 22nd August Felt Flowers. Flowers instantly brighten a room. Using pieces of felt we will make these beautiful flowers which will last longer than living flowers. Maybe a gift for a loved one? Friday 23rd August Wet Felting. You will be introduced to the medium and how the felting process works. You will then create your own beautifully tactile felt picture to understand and explore the process fully.
13 Summer Holidays. Mother Nature is a beautiful thing and has inspired the work of many artists. We will be using natural resources as a base for our activities. Tuesday 27th August Feather Mobile. Feathers come in all shapes, sizes and colours. We will be using feathers to make these effective mobiles. Wednesday 28th August Rock Art. Rock art has been around for years. We will look at different ways we can use rocks to create art painting them, using them in pictures, collaging with them. Simple yet effective! Thursday 29th August Patterns in Nature. Wherever you look in nature you will find patterns spots, stripes, spirals etc. Using different materials we will try to recreate some of these patterns. Friday 30th August Family Fun Day Discovery sessions. No need to pre-book! Come along for a day full of discovery and cool experiments and demonstrations.
14 October Half-Term. The leaves are changing colour, Autumn is on the way. This week we will be doing Autumn crafts. Tuesday 29th October Tape Resist Autumn Trees. Using masking tape to block out the silhouette of the trees, children will then dab Autumn colours to make the leaves and remove the tape for these affective Autumn pictures. Wednesday 30th October Leaf Printing. We will explore the patterns in different leaves, by using ink to print them onto a canvas bag. Thursday 31st October Halloween Crafts. Trick or Treat! To get us in the mood we will be doing different activities based on Halloween ghosts, bats, pumpkins etc. Friday 1st November Stained Glass Effect Wire Autumn Leaves. Using wire and a special type of resin we will create lovely wire leaves., The special resin becomes transparent and so will allow the light to shine through.
15 Christmas Holidays. Happy New Year! Thank you for all your support this year. We look forward to another great year with you, starting with these fab activities... Tuesday 31st December Out with the Old! It s the end of the year and a perfect time to use up old resources, ready to start fresh in the New Year. You will be able to choose from lots of different activities, using resources that are left over from this years activities. Wednesday 1st January Firework Salt Painting. Start the year with a Bang! With these explosive salt paintings. Watch the colours spread as you create dazzling pictures. Thursday 2nd January Piece by Piece. Piece by piece we will explore how to make mosaics using a variety of materials. Friday 3rd January Origami with Tony O Hare Tony O Hare is a member of the British Origami Society. He has created 100 s of his own origami designs that are fun, interesting and guaranteed to make you smile! Learn how to make jumping frogs, pecking swans, flapping birds, flowers and much more!
