2 PRESIDENT S MESSAGE Here we are-first days of summer and it feels like we have been baking for months! It s hot outside so I hope you are staying nice and cool inside painting. Last month we painted a spectacular beta fish with Patte Kayne. I still need to varnish mine. I hope everyone brings theirs to show and tell because they were stunning in class! This month we will be painting/zentangling a Santa with Cheri Bergquist just in time for Christmas in July. Jan 6 Alise Duerr *Minutes of previous meetng approved as they were printed in the newsleter. Feb 3 Pegi Roberts *Cathy introduced programs and seminars. Today is Pate Kayne doing her beta fsh, Sept 22 & 23 will be a seminar with Sandy McTier. So far we have 15 signed up for each seminar day. We have booked Lydia Steeves for March 29, 30 & 31. Cathy asked members to think about if they want acrylic and pencil and what combinaton of either or both. In July the program will be a painted and tangled Santa taught by Cheri Bergquist. Cheri had pieces for sale today so they can be prepped ahead of tme. See her afer meetng to purchase. September s class will be a fabric apron taught by Alise Duerr. November s class will be taught by Judy Niecewicz and members were asked to choose between a Christmas theme painted shirt or a lesson on acrylic pouring cards. The shirt was chosen and members were asked to start looking for a white coton shirt. March 3 Jolene Rhodes *Cathy reported that as of today we have 36 members and 4 guests visitng. *Treasurer s report was posted in the newsleter. The balance appears high but is misleading as seminar monies are coming in but have yet to go out. *Members were asked to sign up for hospitality for breakfast items. 3 *Cathy reported we need a Spring Fling chairperson and Karen Schultz volunteered to be the chairperson. *Christmas commitee chairperson Roxie reported that the church was reserved but she needs a lot of help. She also said we will stck with Chef Scot for the lunch. Discussion was held as to having more brunch items or lunch items and the Christmas commitee will decide. *Pate Kayne reported the newsleter deadline as June 21. Door Prize Donation Sign-up Sheet 2018 Jan 6, Penny Brown *Alise Duerr presented the 2017 President s Gif belatedly to Cathy Ferrer in thanks for all her hard work. 4 UPCOMING WORKSHOPS & SEMINARS Please sign up for the workshop before the meeting by visiting the Workshop page on the chapter website July Workshop taught by Cheri Bergquist Prep Instructions: At the June meeting, Cheri had watercolor paper with pattern transferred. If you picked up the surface then your supply fee is paid for. Base coating of face and red stripes on hat need to be DONE BEFORE CLASS. Warm beige for the face Country red for the stripes Supplies Grey transfer paper Stylus Prep sheets 08 black micron pen 01 black micron pen wet or dry palette basic painting supplies Fine liner Angles or flats. Sm. Med. Round I WILL PROVIDE ALL PAINTS but here is a list of the colors we will be using: Decoart Americana Shading flesh, Bleached sand, Sapphire, Blush flesh, White, Black, Alizarin Crimson, Burnt sienna, Burnt umber, Country Red, Warm Beige AUGUST WORKSHOP taught by Dianne Case Giraffe Reverse Glass Painting Supply List Supply Fee: Paint Palette: $6.00 Packet: $2.00 Adult Giraffe and Baby Giraffe - Both are 11 x14. ~ Piece of glass or Plexiglas, per size of the project. -You can buy a frame with glass make sure glass is removeable. -If using glass, tape the edges with painter s tape edges can be sharp. Make margin on inking side very narrow. -Clean the glass thoroughly. Don t touch with hands after cleaning. ~ Ink Higgins India Ink (NOT Black Magic). ~ Pens Hunt Crow Quill Pen, nib size 102 & 107 or Technical Pen 0 size.

5 -You CANNOT use a pen like a Sharpie, etc. ~ Palette for oils Styrofoam plate or trays. -Bring a closed container to take extra paint home. ~ Paper towels. ~ Painters tape. ~ Brushes Assorted flats #4, #6, #8, #10. -You might want a couple of each size. -NOT stiff white bristle. ~ Palette knife. Patterns and paint for both Adult Giraffe and Baby Giraffe will be provided. You should have time to ink both and get 1 painted, or ink 1 and get it painted, then do the second one on your own. I have a limited number of Crow Quill Pens to lend.
