We will miss you and look forward to your return in the fall. Now for those of us left, I will have to beg for your assistance. In April we don t have a teacher scheduled but we are having a help paint day. Happy Painting, Suzi Mills We meet at the Hampton Inn Hwy 27, Lake Wales 10:00 AM unless otherwise notified 4th Saturday of the month News in your Newsletter Don t forget the Bargain basement. Painters are always looking for stuff to paint or sell. 1

Kathryn Bargain Basement Mary Francis purchased the Metal windchime! Any bargains out there to sell? Things a Successful & Happy Person Should Never Say Part 3 of 5 Part series I missed my chance. As Charlie Chaplin once said, Nothing is permanent in this world, not even our troubles. You might not be exactly where you had intended to go but you are exactly where you need to be to take the best next step forward. We can t change the past, we can only change the present. If you can t see the opportunity, build it! It is never too late to become what you might have been. Keep growing, keep learning, keep adapting! Kinglsan & Gibilisco series 4
5 Seminar News I believe everyone who attended the last meeting was thrilled with Ginny! I got more compliments about her! She is such a nice lady and has a wonderful way of teaching. Everyone who attended really loved her. She had a great time as well and hopes to get back in the future. It seems everyone finished their project in class and that doesn t always happen!! The next meeting will be all hands on deck. You will see in this issue the photos of what we will be working on. We are decorating the chargers, the favors and the centerpiece for a banquet table at the DSDP conference in San Diego. Please bring a variety of brushes and regular acrylic supplies. Transfer paper, tracing paper, stylus, paper towels, water buckets etc. All the paints are furnished. We will be painting on chargers, margarita glasses; a paint can for the centerpiece and a margarita glass holder for the centerpiece. This won t cost you anything but time!! Bring a lunch and let s have some fun!! We have about 10 chargers to paint, 14 margarita glasses, the paint can and the glass holders. It was suggested that we should keep the start time for every class, meeting and seminar to 9:00 a.m. Some people got confused at the last meeting and didn't arrive until 10 and wee started at 9:00. Think about it and let me know at the April; meeting. (Which starts at 9:00?) I ll be collecting money for Kathryn s class at the April meeting. It will be a fun one! You won t want to miss it! Vicki Alley TDA Seminar chair Ginny Wiegand April s Project 5
6 Seminar Schedule Ginny Wiegand s seminar, we ware all so busy! 6
7 We had an great time and all the projects were beautiful. Kathryn s Genesis Seminar May and June 2014 This is an oil design by Ann Kingslan and Mary Gibilisco before they started to use the Genesis paints in 1999, so it goes way back. This is a fun project where the painter will not only learn form, color and painting glass but they will learn about the wonderful properties of Genesis paints. Kathryn will teach this intermediate project in two stages, May and June. It is a fun project with lots a great give aways! Brushes, books, videos! Supplies: The Genesis palette will be supplied Masonite board prepped with Baby Blue and TW Americana paints (ONLY) Mixture is about 1/2, 1/2. It is more light than dark. Use the roller brush to prep board see page 8 Glass palette or smooth tile or oil palette for one time use Container to transport palette Heat gun Tracing paper Note: trace your pattern but do not transfer on to your masonite Graphite paper Kleenex tissue (not necessarily this brand) or hair roller tissues (optional) Good palette knife, preferably not plastic Oils brushes: Ann Kingslan Majestic brushes preferred # 12 or 10 Bright shader or short filbert # 8 or 6 Bright shader or short filbert # 4 Bright shader # 2 Bright shader Small mop Med-large Mop Liner brush Spotter (optional) 7
8 Preparing a Background with a Roller Brush Before you pick up a roller brush, go to your refrigerator, hold an egg in your hand and feel what you are trying to achieve; an eggshell finish is the objective you will be doing on your painting surface. How to prepare a masonite surface: Proper preparation on your surface is the most important step in painting because it may avoid adverse reactions down the road. Sand the masonite with an electric sander or 150 grit sandpaper. Sand until the shine on the masonite has been removed. Wipe the surface to remove the sand dust with a damp cloth. Do not use a tac cloth as it may interfere with the painting medium. Dampen the roller brush and squeeze any excess water from the brush. The roller brush must be the fine woven sponge type to achieve the effect. Pour a good puddle of paint on a paper palette. Roll the brush through the puddle making sure no bubbles form, if so there is too much water in the brush and it needs to be removed. After the brush is loaded with paint begin rolling it back and forth on your surface, north and south, then cross and back. Pick out any impurities you see. Keep rolling until you feel a drag between the roller and surface. Dry. Add another coat. It is better to have 2-3 thin coats on the surface rather than one thick one. Sand lightly between coats with a wet/dry sandpaper. Dry thoroughly before applying your pattern. Let the painting begin! Kathryn Crane-Thielen 8
