1 Volume 15 Issue 1 An Affiliate of the Society of Decorative Painters January 2018 Dear Members, Happy New Year! Once again, it s the beginning of a new year. We ended 2017 with a fun-filled Christmas party. I can t tell you how much I enjoyed it. It was especially uplifting to see some of our former members. I want to thank everyone for their support of our Chapter. We have some nice projects planned for 2018 and some open Free Paint days for UFOs. Maybe we can plan more covered dish luncheons., our new 1 st Vice President/Workshop Chair will be sending out information on our projects for the New Year. Don t forget to sign up for Nancy s Cardinals class on January 6 th. You can send your reservation form and check to Lee Our February 3 rd class with Marjorie Harris Clark of the Child with Seashell will be prep FREE. A monthly meeting, followed by a painting workshop, is held the first Saturday of each month (usually) at the Flagler Women's Club, 1524 S. Central Avenue, Flagler Beach. Business meetings start at 9:00 a.m. followed by the scheduled workshop/seminar. All levels of painters are welcome to any of the meetings. I am excited about the programs scheduled for the year. The January workshop by has only a few spots. If you want to attend send a check made out to PCDP as soon as possible, so that I can get your prep sheet to you. The sign up information is in the newsletter. February we are having a one day seminar with Marjorie Harris Clark. Don't let the project scare you. It is easier than it looks. Marjorie is a wonderful teacher and presents a fun class. Lee Painting Tip If you have taken a class with Nancy Walsh, you may remember she told us how great the hand sanitizer Purell was for cleaning bushes. I promptly came home and cleaned every brush I own. I was shocked at the results. Brushes I cleaned after painting and cleaned with brush cleaner still contained paint Well I discovered another use of Purell. My painting room unfortunately has carpet. About five years ago I spilled a bottle of dark brown paint. By the time I realized it, the paint had dried. I tried all the traditional products, including Awesome to no avail. Then a light bulb went on in my head. PURELL. I put the Purell directly onto the rather large spot, let it sit for a few minutes, then cleaned with a damp cloth. BINGO, stain is gone. Lee 4

9 Ribbon Jello by Barbara Jacobs 1 regular size package of each of the following jellos: Cherry Lemon Lime Orange 1 1/4 cup sugar 1 pint sweet cream 1 cup sour cream 2 packages unflavored gelatin Grease with oil a 10 cup sized mold or bunds pan and refrigerate while preparing the other mixtures. Bring sugar, sweet cream to boil, add unflavored gelatin softened in 1/2 cup cold water. Set aside. Let cool. Add sour cream and mix well. Set aside Dissolve 1 package of each flavored jello in 1 1/2 cups boiling water Put a scant 3/4 cup of jello in mold. Refrigerate When that hardens (takes about 20 min.) spoon on 2/3 cup of the white mixture and refrigerate. Continue with the different colors of gelatin, alternating each layer with a layer of white mixture. Only do this if you are going to be home all day. It can set a day or so before unfolding. 9
