What a wonderful time we had with Sandy Aubuchon. She is such a terrific lady and a great teacher!! I can't wait to see how the rest of the year goes! Speaking of the rest of the year, we have some changes to the schedule so please check it out. We are changing the day in March to the fifth Saturday, which is March 31st. Then in October and November on the fourth Saturdays, we will be meeting at the Water's Edge in Lake Wales. The Tourist Club is unavailable for us during these dates because of city functions. Also, we talked about easing up on the food that we are all bringing in every month. We decided to start brown bagging our lunches again each month. It seems that some people have to spend too much time getting the lunch spread ready and that takes away from their painting time. And maybe we can ease up on bringing in breakfast food?? We'll all gain 50 pounds if we keep bringing in all those goodies! (grin!) Barbara Fowler will be contacting a few people each month to bring in refreshments. If we all take turns, we'll only need to bring something in a couple of times during the year. See you on the 26th when Julie Polderdyke will be here! And remember, keep a clean brush! There will be no planned meeting so we can start painting at 9:00. Please arrive around 8:30 so we will be ready to go at 9:00.

3 February Program Hand Painted Mouse pad using Pen and Ink with Acrylic Washes done on Water color paper Designed and taught by Julie Polderdyke This is a rubber mouse pad and the pattern will be printed on watercolor paper, and attached to foam board, so that members can go right to work! The cost for this class will be $13.00 and will include everything needed to finish this project: rubber mouse pad, printed watercolor paper attached to foam board, laminating sheet, a pattern packet, the paint used in class and the teaching! It s a deal!! Supplies to bring: A stack of paper towels folded into squares, a 10 hole bubble palette, a regular palette pad, an empty 2 oz paint bottle filled with water. Brushes: Loew Cornell-#7020-Ultra Round # 2, Angular shaders- 1/2, 5/8 and your other brushes, just in case. Looking forward to seeing you all!! 3

4 March Program A Bob Pennycook Design Taught by Mary Francis (used with permission) Supplies List All Paints are Decoart Americana: Butter Dioxazine Purple Gooseberry Pink Marigold Napa Red Pistachio Mint Plantation Pine Warm White Brushes: Bring your normal painting brushes, i.e., #2, #4 and #6 flats, a 0 or 00 liner plus 10/0 liner, and a brush you use for dry brushing. Miscellaneous: Normal painting supplies, i.e., tracing paper, pallet, white transfer paper, styleus, paper towels, water basin, extender (optional), tape, etc. Hair Dryer Wire curler or needle-nose pliers to twist the wire Needle with larger eye to accommodate gold or? threads I will provide: Decoart White Acrylic Writer, Silver, Gold Glitter paint Materials kit which includes the canvas surface, plus muslin and batting (assembled into quilt sandwich), and 18 gauge wire I will also have some little packets of buttons and yarn made for purchase for the embellishments. If you have some wonderful winter buttons and other embellishments and special yarns or threads that you want to use, bring them with you. Bring a needle, too, though I will have some on hand for you to use. The project calls for one large button for the wire hanger (be sure the eyes are large enough to accommodate an 18 gauge wire), three smaller buttons for the painted design area (eyes large enough to get a needle and fancy thread through). Some examples would be snowman button (1 to 1-1/2 ) and smaller stars, snowflakes, etc., for the smaller ones. Class and supply fee $

5 From the First Vice President Dear Ladies of the Brush, What an amazing time we all had at Sandy Aubuchon s two-day seminar. Thanks so much Sandy for sharing your talent with us. Both the Sea Gals and Rose With Tulips were so much fun including the bonus project - Citrus Glass Painting. For February's project, we will have Julie Polderdyke teaching us the painted mouse pad. This project is done on watercolor paper with pen & ink and attached to a mouse pad. Those who select the mouse pad will have everything provided for them: The watercolor paper will already be inked for them, mouse pad, laminate sheet to protect the work when it s attached to the pad, paint and packet. The price will be $ Those who don t want the mouse pad will pay $ They will receive the inked watercolor paper and the laminate sheet only. NOTE: Ladies, there is still time to register for February s class. Just let me know via (cheryl.bryant@citrusworld.com) if you plan to attend; I ll collect your money before the class begins. In March, Mary Francis will present to us a snowman on canvas. Thanks so much Mary Francis for such an adorable project! Cheryl Basket Luncheon Special Raffle Make those items really "Special". Framed paintings, a painted chair, small tables, something that doesn't fit in a basket. If everyone could make just one special raffle item it would be perfect! Of course, it doesn't need to be a painted item. We meet at the Tourist Club of Lake Wales, 205 Fifth Street North, Lake Wales, The business meeting starts at 10:00 am and is followed by a painting program/ workshop. Check the newsletter to see what is happening for lunch each month. Breakfast goodies and coffee are generally provided. 6

7 Joann s Discount Card Remember you can get a discount card at Joann's through the Society of Decorative Painters. If you go to the Society's website, you need to go to the member's only page. There you will need to sign in using your membership number and your last name. Scroll down near the bottom of the page and you will see this: Where do I get my Joann's Discount Card It's easier than you think. Members can request their card online at joann.com/sdpvip. Members who do not have internet access can request their card by telephone toll-free at BUT the fastest way to get your go is to simply go into a Joann Fabric and Craft Store and fill out the application. Make sure to bring your SDP membership card to prove you qualify. The new card is valid from 8/1/2011-8/31/2012. The Joann VIP Discount Card can be used for 10% off your total purchase, including regular and sale-priced items. The VIP Discount Card is valid at any Joann store and is also valid online at joann.com by using the promotion code supplied on the back of the card. Please note that your new card will need to be validated by store management prior to first use by showing your SDP membership card and a state-issued photo ID. Misplaced Plates! Help! Mary Anne LaMorte has not received her 2 hand painted plates back from the Winter Haven Library display. I gave them to someone to return them to her the next time they saw her. They are in a paper bag with a handle and bubble wrap with a piece of cardboard separating them. If you have them please call Mary Anne and make arrangements for pick up date. Kathryn 7

Cook a lemon pie filling as directed, cool. Fold together, 2 beaten whites with 1/2 pt (1 cup) of whipped cream (whipped to peaks). Fold into cooled lemon pie filling. Ice cake and layers. Decorate with mandarin oranges and maraschino cherries. Janet Gregory won first place in the Quilting competition at the Lake Placid Country Fair this weekend. Her piece was the "Crazy Quilt" that she showed us at Show n tell about 2 years ago. She also won third place in glass painting for a dish and glasses using transparent paints. 9 Third Annual Basket Luncheon April 28, 2012 Vicki Alley hosted the second clipboard paint-in at her home yesterday and I can see some beautiful clipboards being created. It is so much fun to sit on her patio overlooking the water, with your favorite people and doing your favorite pastime; what a way to spend a beautiful Saturday! Other clipboards have been turned in and, oh my, they are beautiful! We are all well underway to having these clipboards done. I have the bases for the clipboards, so it anyone needs them, call or me. It would be nice if you could embellish the back of the clipboard with a few strokes and paint the base to match your clipboard and add a few dots or strokes on them to pull the theme all together. All clipboards and bases are due back to me by the meeting in March. I have the Basket Luncheon tickets for you to sell to your friends and family. or call the number you need and I will set them aside for you. They are $12.00 a ticket, same price as last year, but you must purchase one for yourself. Contact me soon as they are going fast. Everything is getting pulled together. The committees are working hard to make this all come together April 28. I failed to ask someone to get an Education table, for lack of a better word, together for public display. We should show all of our mediums just like the Winter Haven library display. So, if anyone would like to volunteer for this it would be appreciated and an easy table to do. We will have our National Society information on this table also. I will have a final committee meeting in March, same time and place. I will give further notice on this.
