Wipe away sanding dust. Basecoat entire piece Sand. Using 3/4 Glaze Wash brush, thin Grey Storm with water and wash on sides and bottom edge. When dry, repeat with Light Avocado. Very edge of piece is based Light Avocado. The design area remains Sand. For the sky, using a 3/4 Glaze Wash brush, side-load into Blue Haven, blend, pick up a little Williamsburg Blue on same corner, blend, and streak in sky, using horizontal strokes. Painting Instructions: Brick Walk: Using dry highlighter, pick up Driftwood, take out excess on palette, and streak onto 1

3 brick area, being sure to use horizontal strokes. Pick up Dove Grey on dirty brush and repeat. Pick up Shading Flesh on dirty brush, and following above directions, streak in area, keeping it more pink at the top and slowly running out of paint as you get to the bottom. Repeat, picking up Grey Storm in dirty brush, keeping this mostly toward the bottom under the fence. Using liner, lay in lines to separate bricks, brushmixing Dove Grey and Grey Storm, and working with a dirty brush, keeping it lightest to the left of fence and darkest near boxwood. Boxwood: Using dry deerfoot, pick up Light Avocado in brush, take out excess on palette, and tap in greenery, keeping toe side of the brush to outside edges all around. Repeat if necessary. Pick up Margarita on dirty brush, smash on palette to blend, and gently tap in highlights here-and-there. Wipe brush in dry paper towel, pick up more Light Avocado to temper brush, pick up Midnite Green on toe and, following above directions, tap in shadows, being sure to keep it darkest at left of back shrub for separation. Again, wipe brush in dry paper towel, pick up Light Avocado and following directions above, pick up Blue Haven on toe, etc. and add touches here-and-there on both areas. Fence: Base behind pickets with a mix of Cool White + Driftwood (3:1). Base all other pickets and posts Cool White. Shade behind pickets next to front pickets with Driftwood; repeat, using Grey Storm, keeping the color a medium value. Shade front pickets above and below horizontal braces, on top brace a little from top on posts under cut edge, at bottom of post and pickets with Driftwood. Repeat, using light Storm Grey, mainly on pickets at right and all those at bottom, on posts, on braces next to posts. Add a little character to tops of front pickets with light Storm Grey. Float each of the above two colors to tops of cut edges of posts; repeat, using Raw Umber. Float Raw Umber at bottoms of pickets and post. Dry-brush Light Avocado, then a little Spiced Pumpkin at bottoms of post and some pickets. Chain: Add ovals for links of chain with Cool White. Shade where they lay under something with Grey Storm. Step: Undercoat with a brush-mix of Grey Storm and Raw Umber, approx. 1:1. When dry, use a 2

4 3 scruffy brush to apply Vaseline to top of step. Dry a bit with hair dryer. Base over this with Cool White. When dry, lightly sand off to expose the undercoat to resemble peeling paint. Shade top of step next to front edge with Raw Umber. Add lines to separate boards on step. Drybrush a little Spiced Pumpkin, then a little Light Avocado here-and-there. Shade under step with Soft Black. Shed: Base Cool White. Line Soft Black to separate boards and vertical piece at front. Also add cracks in paint on lower board with Soft Black. Shade lightly with Grey Storm under roof, at right side, on boards next to vertical piece. Thin Grey Storm with water and add dots with tip of liner where nails are. When dry, tap in Cool White in center of each grey dot with tip of liner. Dampen entire shed, side-load 3/4 Glaze Wash brush in Grey Storm, and gently streak horizontally on boards and vertically on front piece. This should be a very transparent color, just adding a bit of character. Dry-brush a little Spiced Pumpkin and Light Avocado on vertical piece. Dry-brush a little Burnt Sienna under a few nails to resemble rust. Add more shading under roof and right edge with Grey Storm. Roof: Base with Soft Black. Highlight top edge with a brush-mix of Driftwood and Margarita. Queen Ann s Lace: Line in with Light Avocado. Highlight each bract at top and center of stem with Margarita. Shade where bracts meet stem, and top and bottom of stem with Midnite Green. Thin Grey Storm with a lot of water and paint in cast shadow a little to the left of stem. Flower Pot: Plants: Using a size 2 Round and starting at bottom, pull in leaves with Light Avocado. Highlight the tips and parts of leaves that lay over others with Margarita. You may need to do this more than once. Shade at bottom and on leaves that are underneath others with Midnite Green. Deepen shading where necessary with Soft Black. Pot: Trace outline of pot onto a piece of heavy paper or thin cardboard. Place it on a piece of glass and cut out with Exacto knife. Place this stencil on step when pot sits. Using palette knife, apply a thin layer of DecoArt Texture Crackle, smoothing as much as you can. Remove stencil by lifting straight up; dry well. When totally dry, base pot with a mix of Spiced

5 Pumpkin, Raw Umber, Shading Flesh (3:1:1). Using dry highlighter, pick up Orange Twist, take out excess on palette, and apply highlights at center left and a little at center right, leaving the basecoat in the exact center. Float Orange Twist to top edge of pot; repeat, as necessary. Add more highlights to pot as well, keeping it lightest on left. Shade bottom of rim, under rim, both sides, and across bottom with Burnt Orange, keeping it widest on bottom and right side. Reinforce, using Burnt Sienna. Add more shading on right, across bottom right, and under rim at right with Raw Umber. Dry-brush Light Avocado here-and-there on pot to resemble moss. Add more highlight on pot if necessary. Finishing: Finish with your favorite brush on or spray varnish. 4
