1 Welcome to all members attending our June meeting. As you will have read in Barb's report we have had a very sad loss to our decoupage group with the passing of our dear friend, Allan. Not only will he be sadly missed by our little group, but also by so many people involved in the many crafts Allan was accomplished in. He was well known all over Australia for his lovely work and good natured assistance to many lovers of craft. We will be the poorer without him in our lives. Let's keep the guild going in the spirit Allan would have wished. We had a good social morning last Saturday at my house, even though I was a bit under the weather with the dreaded lurgy. My clock looks very elegant on the wall of my craft room, and I can see the Granddaughters with one for Christmas. Enjoy your craft time and the company of fellow decoupeurs. Regards, Heather, President. Page 1 of 7
2 Greetings, It is with heavy hearts that we recall our memories of the times we spent with our friend and mentor, Allan Press, who passed away on the 10 th May. Allan was always willing to share his vast knowledge of decoupage as well as his many other talents. He will be sadly missed as a member of the Guild and as a friend. Allan was instrumental in having a Decoupage Category in the EKKA and promoting this art form through this avenue was very important to him. May we continue this annual venture in his honour. By the time this goes to print, entries to the EKKA will have closed but still plenty of time to work on our pieces before the delivery in mid July. I look forward with interest having heard along the grape vine that there is at least one young person entering something quite different. Thankyou Heather for making us welcome to the Social Day on May 20, and to Ineke who brought along the clock workings to finish the face decorated at the workshop in April. Those who have received the total kit may like to bring along the finished article to the June 11 meeting when others will be able to pick up their kit. It is wonderful to have returned to the Chermside Library as a meeting venue where the wonderful facilities are available at no charge. Please note that the underground carpark does not open until 10am, and until then when the Library opens you will need to be let in by a member at the door please be patient if there is no-one on hand to open the door immediately. See details within Snippets on what to bring for the June workshop, when I will be happy to share with you my experimentations in constructing from card the bases for mobiles, pendants or buttons etc. Your ideas are invited, and very important, as to what future workshops should include. No arrangements have been put in place for August as yet. The August gathering will be the AGM. Please give some thought as to how you can be involved in the continuation of the Guild. I look forward to seeing a good attendance, and lots of ideas, on June 11 th. Barbara Chapple (Secretary DGQ Inc.) Page 2 of 7
3 Please try to arrive for a cuppa at 9am, so that our meeting/workshop can commence as soon as possible after that. TBA = Social days as decided at meeting June 11 th TBASaturday, July 1 August August 13 th TBA October 1st October 4/8 TBA November 12 th 9am Cuppa, 9.30am Meeting (and Workshop) at Chermside Library Social DaySocial Day at Sue and Roger's, Toowoomba EKKA AGM/Meeting/Workshop Social Day Meeting/Workshop Craft Show Social Day Workshop (follow-up Craft Show) You will notice more emphasis on SOCIAL DAYS. Please consider seriously your involvement in these which will allow members to work on and complete projects. Like-minded people meeting stimulate ideas and provide a little discipline to keep at it, Page 3 of 7
4 VALE ALLAN GEORGE PRESS 24 th March th May 2017 On Wednesday, 17 th May, along with many others, a group of Decoupage Guild Qld members gathered to say farewell to our Mentor and Friend. We remember with great fondness the time and dedication Allan selflessly offered sharing his many talents with others. He will be sadly missed. Prayers and caring thoughts are with his wife Elsie and family members. Page 4 of 7
