1 Just a few words from the president. Not in the best form at present, however, looking forward to an exciting year with new members and some good ideas for furthering everyone's interest in our fascinating art form. I once again stress to all members, how important our weekend workshop at Crow's Nest is, not just for the great help we get from other members, but also the company and pleasure of a weekend away. 2 Happy New Decoupage Year Members and Friends. It seems an aeon since I made contact with you all. We have put behind us such successful ventures as involvement at the October Quilt and Craft Fair and then, a smaller but similar event, the Gympie Rotary Quilt and Craft Spectacular followed by the workshop on Underglass Pendants. At Gympie we were allotted a great space just inside the entrance where one table was for our exhibition of pieces and a second for sales. A donation of $35 meant no commission was payable on our sales. I was very pleased with my sales of beads, pendants and soaps and Sue's sales doubled mine. The Committee was most appreciative of our presence and the pieces on display created a lot of interest, especially Roger's chess set little boys were most intrigued with this. People sought lots of advice, but understandably geographically we were at a little disadvantage to attract new members. However, now many people are aware that our Guild exists. At our November meeting, soon after 9 very keen folk turned up for a successful workshop on completing 2 under glass pendants using recycled spectacle lenses as a base. The results were varied and all went away very pleased with their finished article. Three new members joined that day and we look forward to seeing much more of them to guide them through their decoupage projects. Application has been made to the Chermside Library for use of a meeting room there as soon as the building is completed. Until then the Guild will continue meeting at the Voyager Centre. You will have received an outlining the activity for the February 12 th meeting. A reminder of what to bring is listed within this issue of Snippets. Page 2 of 9

3 Please give serious consideration to being part of the Live-in in-workshop at Crows Nest Caravan Park. March 10/12 book on and state you are with the Decoupage group. Partners are welcome at this event for which the only cost is accommodation and food. Resources will be available for sharing as well as lots of constructive discussion. 4 Until the new Chermside Library is completed the Guild will continue to meet at the VOYOGER CENTRE, HISTORICAL PRECINCT, KITTYHAWK DRIVE, CHERMSIDE. Please consider seriously your involvement in these which will allow members to work on and complete projects. 5 Here are some samples of the pendants under glass. Recycled spectacle lenses have been used in the top row. The bottom row are decorated glass tiles. Page 5 of 9

6 These glass tile heritage pendants have been made by colourising old black and white photos, cutting out images, gluing under tile and then backing first with fine coloured silk paper and then gold leaf. This picture was taken before gluing on a bale at the back of the tile which did not obscure any of the fronts. Using silver leaf, as in some of the above samples, gives quite a different effect. 7 IN SINCERE APPRECIATION Please accept sincere thanks from myself, Mark, Peter, Kerry-Ann and families for the love and support following Graham's passing. Your presence at his funeral, cards, s and phone calls have been most comforting and encouraging as we cope daily with the void our sad loss has created. Page 7 of 9

8 I am going to leave this tip for this month as I feel it is needed at this time of turmoil and unrest in the world. Health TIP/Recipe FRIENDSHIP 1 cup of friendship A pinch of tenderness 1 cup of hope 2 spoons of gaiety 1 cup of thoughtfulness 1 cup of faith 1 cup of love Moisten with tears of heartfelt care.
