SUPPLIES: DecoArt Deco page Triple Thick Glaze Soft Touch Varnish Deco pen Gold Rhinestones Drying Time Extender BRUSHES: Papillon by the Artist s Club 4 pc Highlighter Set #20173 Glaze Wash Brush 1 inch #20103 White gift wrap tissue paper Painters Tape Identi Pen Black Stylus Sandpaper pc Round Set (Large) # /0 Script Liner PREPARATION: Using medium sand paper lightly sand the top surface and the edges. Wipe away the residue and then using fine sandpaper sand again. This is a rough surface so you might have to do this several times to get a smooth surface. We need it smooth on the top due to the blending of the back-ground colors. PAINTING INSTRUCTIONS: First apply the faux leather background. Base coat all 4 sides with Honey Brown using your large square shader or filbert and let dry. Using your wide flat brush apply a coat of Decoupage to the surface, kind of thick. The take a piece of tissue paper and squish it all up so it is all wrinkled. Gently straighten out, leaving the wrinkles enough so when you lay on the wet Decoupage it will stay wrinkled. Using your brush, again brush more Decoupage on top of the tissue paper. Start in the middle and work out to the edges. You might want to press a bit hard without tearing the tissue down so it does not stick too far up. Let this dry, preferably overnight. When fully dry come back with a sharp exacto knife and trim off the excess paper. You can even sand the edges a bit as well. Leather Effect: Place the following colors on your palette: Honey Brown, Milk Chocolate, Raw Sienna, Traditional Burnt Sienna and Raw Umber. Start with Honey Brown and cover all the sides. Then using your Large Highlighter brush, DRY brush some Traditional Burnt Sienna over the crinkled surface. You can let some of the Honey Brown 2 artistsclub.com

3 show through. No go into your Burnt Sienna with same brush and brush that over the same area allowing the top of the crinkles to grab the color. You can put it a little heavier around the edges to create a show effect. Do so until you get the desired effect. Again, same brush and Raw umber, this is your show around the box, blend so as not to have a definite line. With the same brush, dry brush all over to even it out. Use Milk Chocolate and finally back to Honey Brown over it all to bring out the last part of the crinkled paper. Seal with sealer let set over night. Do all for sides of the box. Trace on the square (but don t do the witches yet. That is later.) Using painters tape around the outside of the square. Make sure secure so it won t leak with painted. Back Ground to Witches on the front of the box: Transfer pattern and then using painters tape place it around the sunset box. Make sure there is a tight seal so the color does not leak through. Place on your palette the following: Banana, Mustard Seed, Spiced Pumpkin and Country Red. A soft square glaze mop brush works good for this. You can put the extender in your water or place it on top of the box. base in from the bottom of the square up with Banana Cream then apply extender and from the top brush and blend in Mustard Seed about 2/3rds the way down. The you can come in with the Spiced Pumpkin again from the top come down about half way this time and finally from the top again Country Red. Let dry overnight and then remove the tape. CAREFULLY Apply the banner design then base coast with Banana Cream. Then do your border around the square and banner with Black. Shade the banner with Honey Brown and then to add more depth shade with Raw Sienna. The outline is done with the Gold Pen or you can use a liner and Gloriously Gold metallic. When dry seal this with the sealer. The writing is free hand and I also recommend using your computer fonts. I used a regular extra fine black sharpie for this. The pattern has my free hand writing. Using your transfer paper transfer the witch silhouette to the square with the sunset background. Using your round brushes basecoat in the witches. Switch to smaller round brush for the smaller finer details. When done, seal again. The spiders and webs you can do freehand. Bat side: Apply your pattern with the white transfer paper. Place on your palette, Black, Burnt Orange, Raw Umber. Base in the body of the bat with Raw Umber. Base in the web with Raw Umber. The shading (see worksheet) is Black, the wings around the body and head. Thin out some Black to inky consistency and using your 10/0 liner pull out the hairs from the body and head. 4 pull out from the chin on the chest some hair and the top of his head. (see worksheet) Dot the eyes and nose with Mustard Seed and Black. Lettering: Torrid Orange and Black Spider side: Apply your pattern with white transfer paper. Place on your palette, Black, Zinc, Purple Wave. Base coat the body of the spider and the web with black. Then thin out black to inky consistency and pull out the hairs on his legs and start with the back of his body. Start mid-way in the body and pull outside the body and then do the same with the head. Thin out again to inky consistency the Pewter and from the center of the body pull out the hairs and same with the head. Leave the prior Black showing around the edge of the body still and finally come back with Black and repeat from the center of the Pewter. Dot the eyes with Basecoat the web in Black and then come back with liner and some thinned Purple Wave and highlight the web. Use your 10/0 liner for hair. Lettering: Citron Green and Purple Wave Scroll Side: Transfer the pattern with the white transfer paper. The basecoat the scroll in Banana Cream. Shading is done with Honey Brown and then Raw Sienna. Place the highlights using Warm White. Outline using sharpie marker. Lettering was done with sharpie as well. Seal when done. See worksheet for my free hand pattern. Frog Front: Transfer the pattern with the white transfer paper. Base coast the frog in with Antique Gold Deep 4 artistsclub.com then come in and shade with Avocado around the body, under the chin, bottom of his face, around his eyes as well as his fingers. Add some depth using your shader and Plantation Pine, same as you just did just bring it closer to the lines. Base coat the eyes using a small round with Citron Green, the other circle with Mustard Yellow and Black. Highlight the from lips, top of eyes and fingers with Margarita. The dots on his chest base coat in Avocado and shade in Plantation Pine then highlight with Citron. Don t forget to put the highlights in his eyes, using your 10/0 and Warm White. Lettering: using your liner brush and Torrid Orange, then highlight using Scorching Yellow. Dot with Black and seal. Inside the box you can paint whatever you like, I did this in Mustard Seed and the base in Black Make sure it is all sealed well. FINISHING: I wanted some bling to this so I purchased individual rhinestones and some on tape. The ones on the tape I used around the base and the lip for the recipe card. The individual ones I use the pack of 3 sizes. On the spider s body s I used the bigger ones. * These are just dots using the end of your brush, not a lot of detail. You can then dot the eyes, Red Green etc. The caldron bubbles I put all three sizes over the painted bubbles. I then put them randomly over the lettering. You can use a sealer on this as well, I just made sure I they were secure with some Triple Thick Glaze
