MI MIXER - for all the Michigan chapters, and members: See what is going on around the state. Let me start out by wishing everyone the best in this wonderful holiday season. May each and every one of you have a blessed Christmas and wonderful New Year. I know a few members have had a really challenging year this last year, and it is my hope and prayer that next year will be an entirely new chapter in their lives. You are all in my thoughts and prayers. Now, on to the fun of painting. Donnah has a wonderful lineup of classes for us, check out the newsletter, and web page for more details. You can now pay with PayPal on the website too. Bring a friend too! Guests are welcome to every class. If you want to come down, but not take the class, you are welcome to come on down and work on Memory Boxes or Suitcases as well. Just let us know you are coming, for the 'head count' I really want feedback from each of you. What can we do to make paint-ins better? What can we do to make it easier for you to come to classes? What would you like to see? I would like honest, complete feedback please. Location? Teachers? Projects? Mediums? When I was starting, there were times I thought the project was too hard. I now take the classes to learn what I can, and I don't expect a perfect project. Sometimes I felt was too much money and effort to get all the paints and supplies. I REALLY want to know if ANY members feel this way. Kathy Blough, 2016 President Don t forget to bring your Mystery Wood to the February 13 or March 19 Paint-ins.
2 ly January Birthdays To practice any art, no matter how well or badly, is to make your soul grow. Kurt Vonnegut 12 th Judy Diephouse 14 th Donna Roskamp February Birthdays PayPal Option now available We are now accepting dues, event & supply payments with PayPal. Click on this link to use this feature: 5 th Leslie Williams 8 th Nadine Miller 14 th Jane Brinkman Mystery wood Project We are going to do the voluntary mystery wood project again this year for those who are interested: Put an unpainted project from your stash (we all have at least one) in a brown bag. Inside the bag put your name, and colors you like that will go with your house. Tape, staple or wrap the bag shut. At the February 13 or March 19 meeting, take home a bag that is not yours. Open your bag at home and have fun painting something on the mystery piece. Return the painted piece nicely wrapped with a card on it for the recipient at our December 10, 2016 Christmas Luncheon. That gives you almost a year to paint it. Oh Happy day! You get a painted piece from a Chapter painting friend. Important Notices & Deadlines Please Read The deadline to order a button box (6 x 6 - $15) for Lynne Deptula s April 16 class is January 18. I know that is quite a long lead time, but Lynne has to order them and have them on hand to deliver to you at the March 19 meeting. The February 13 meeting will be held at the Holiday Inn s LIONS room, 2 nd Floor not the Tigers Room. The deadline to order a prepped tray for Judy Diephouse s May 21 class is February 28. It is a metal tray 16 x 10 - $24. This advance date gives her time to order & receive them and prep them in time for the class. The Board has decided that we will try to have paint available for those who cannot find certain colors. This is not to provide paint for everyone, but only to help out those who cannot locate the colors for every paint-in. There will only be one set available, and it will belong to WMDA and will not be distributed after class.

Donnah Jakubowski has some two-tiered cake plates that we would like to distribute to our members to paint as raffle items for our Mixer. Also, we have been blessed by having present members and former members who have donated wonderful things for our use for Mixer or upcoming Stash Sales or Raffles. A great many wooden plates & bowls have been donated (the type used for Rosemaling), and it would be a tremendous help if our members would volunteer to paint these items for us. If you are willing to donate your time in painting any of these items, please let a Board Member know, and we will make sure that you receive some items to paint. We have lots of time to get ready.
8 Christmas Luncheon at Twisted Rooster We had a great time at our Luncheon exchanging ornaments, receiving our Mystery Wood exchange pieces, and party favors. WMDA Meeting Minutes October 17, 2015 Present: Donnah Jakubowski, Kathy Blough, Louise Hastings, Jeanine Reimer, Linda Wing The Board meeting was called to order by Donnah Jakubowski. New business: It has been decided that we will not hold the Sherry Nelson seminar in September (2016). We will, however, have a class that month. It was suggested that we plan displays from several artists. We will ask them to paint Memory Boxes and Treasure Boxes featuring projects they are teaching or have packets available for sale. We want to show the types of projects our Chapter does. We have their business cards available so that they can be contacted about their art. Donnah Jakubowski has cake stands that will be distributed to Members to paint for the Michigan Mixer that we will hold in three years. The meeting was adjourned by Donnah Jakubowski. General Meeting: The membership voted in the officers for next year (2016): President Kathy Blough, Vice President Donnah Jakubowski, Treasurer Louise Hastings, Secretary-Membership Linda Wing, Education Elect Lynne Deptula & Judy Diephouse, Education Donnah Jakubowski, Board Members at Large Jeanine Reimer and Lynne Deptula.

I am thinking about trying to get a booth for sales. I will invite everyone to submit pieces they would like to sell. If our booth is approved, Festival keeps a percentage, but it may be a way to earn a few extra dollars. Art Prize: I would like to try to put together and exhibit Memory Boxes and Treasure Boxes for donation to the DeVos Children s Hospital. The large crowds at Art Prize that would view our display could generate interest in our Chapter. Charities: We have booked the classroom at Hobby Lobby (28 th Street) for Memory Box or Foster Care suitcase painting. We will be promoting our Chapter by inviting the public to join us, and we will help anyone who would like to learn to paint by assisting us with these projects. Please see the three dates that are on our 2016 schedule. If you participate in Craft or Art shows or Fairs, we would appreciate having you distribute information about our Chapter. Please let a Board member know, and we will gladly see that you get information flyers to hand out.
