This is a totally new experience for me and I will try my best to do a good job. We are such a busy group and it takes participation from many to make our club as great as it is. Thank you to everyone who has volunteered their time and talents to make this year enjoyable and fun. Without all the teamwork, we would never be able to continue. Thank you to Karol J for leading us in the cute Winter Blessings project at the January meeting. February is an important meeting. We will be voting on the proposed Bylaws update. Please read over these changes in the newsletter and plan to attend the February meeting to vote. Also come to help paint the ornaments for Vets so they can receive a very special thank you gift of a hand painted ornament at Christmas again this year. 3 Meeting Minutes BHADA JANUARY MEETING BHADA January 19,2019 meeting was called to order by President Luanne T at 9:53 am. We had 19 members present and no guests. Connie M made a motion to accept December 2018 minutes as printed in Newsletter, Janae seconded and all approved. COMMITTEE REPORTS: Spring Retreat- There will be no make and take its. We will have five classes. Retreat will be held March 29, 30 and 31st. Registration is deadline is March 1 and mail to Nelda Brown. Fall Seminar- Linda Sharp will be here in 2019 and Bobbie Campbell in We voted on 3 projects for this year. Hospitality- Linda H and Karol J furnished treats today and Bonnie E and Rita H will furnish in February. Monthly Programs- Linda H and Bonnie E will be teaching in February. We will be painting an ornament for the Veterans at Fort Meade for Christmas. Easter egg exchange will be held in March. No meeting in April. Ways and Means- Bunco October 19, 2019 at Elks Club. Cindy R and Connie M will be in charge. In March we will be painting table favors for Bunco. UNFINISHED BUSINESS: Audit has not been done but will be done. We are going to call it an Internal Review. Janae and Pat will come up with guidelines for the audit committee to follow. NEW BUSINESS: Mary Z presented 2019 financial budget. We discussed this budget and decided to add $50.00 for Historian, $50.00 for Hospitality and $ for Ways and Means. Diane M made a motion to accept and Pat seconded and all voted in favor meeting dates have been reserved at Terra Sancta as they are getting busier. We went over By-laws and Standing Rules. Luann B made a motion to add to our Standing Rules that we allow Honorary membership to a person who has been a chapter member for over three years or more who can no longer do their craft due to medical or physical issues. They do not have to pay chapter dues, but it is up to them if they want to pay SDP dues. Betty seconded and all voted in favor. Betty B made a motion to honor Maxiene Vodopich, Bonnie seconded and all voted in favor. Karol J read a thank you note from Fort Meade for the Christmas ornaments we painted for them in SHOW AND SHARE- Connie M, Nelda B and Linda K Vicki won the door prize painted by Diane Linda K made a motion to adjourn and Linda H seconded all in favor. 4 SHARING MEMORIES Art speaks where words are unable to explain. Threadless Artist Mathiole Teddy bears, for some reason, always make me smile on the inside and outside. I love painting them too. Following is an edited version of a free pattern you can find at artistsclub.com by Betty Bowers. SUPPLIES Basic Painting supplies Paper Towels Gray Graphite Paper 18x36; Pro Art Tracing Roll; Soft Grip Embossing & Stylus; Note: always use a brush to fit the area being painted. PAINTING INSTRUCTIONS Basecoat background with a color of your choice. Let dry. Give surface a light sanding; it will give you a smooth surface to paint on. -- Use the 1/2" angular brush to shade around the edges of the wood surface and around the outline of the bear with Burnt Orange. Using the same brush, turn on the chisel edge and pull down some lines for wood grain in the background. Don t forget to paint in the groves. Deepen the shading with Deep Burgundy. Next, begin to highlight by dry brushing with the 3/4" highlighter brush and Moon Yellow. Do several light layers. Don t clean or wet the brush, just pick up a little White and blend on palette. This will combine the two colors, lighten up the yellow more, dry brush to add lighter value of color. Main Design POT Basecoat pot with Lt. Avocado. Let dry. Shade with Plantation Pine down the groves and across for boards. Dry brush highlights with the 1/2" highlighter brush and Ice Blue. Use your liner brush to pull down the grain lines with Plantation Pine. Repeat with White. Dot the nail heads with Black using the end of a large brush. Add highlight using White. --SPOON Paint with Burnt Sienna. Shade with Bittersweet Chocolate. Dry brush with a little Camel. Pull down grain lines with Black. --HONEY Paint honey on spoon and top of pot with Camel. Shade with a little TRS. Begin to dry brush with the 1/2" highlighter brush with Moon Yellow. Do light layers. Letting paint dry in between layers. Lightly float the honey and drips with White. Lightly brush Splendid Gold on the drips. Reinforce under the bottom of drips with TRS. --BEAR Basecoat with Cocoa. Shade around muzzle, ears and inside ears, neck, and paws with Burnt Sienna. Deepening shading with Bittersweet Chocolate. Using your liner brush, mix water with each color. Water will help paint to flow easy. Do colors in this order: Bittersweet Chocolate, Burnt Sienna, TRS, Camel, last Moon Yellow. Using your deerfoot stippler or a stencil brush, lightly stipple the muzzle area with Burnt Sienna. Using a clean brush, stipple the top part of muzzle, the top of head, each ear and the paws with just a little of White. You can reinforce the shading inside ears, on the outer edge of each ear, under the face and the paws with Bittersweet Chocolate. Paint the eyes and add dots in the ears, on the outer edge of ears, the eye sides, and muzzle with Black. Shade around the eyes with Bittersweet Chocolate. Paint nose with Bittersweet Chocolate. Shade with Black. White on the top of the nose for highlights. Float inside the eyes with White. Dabble White in each eye. BEES Paint the bodies with Moon Yellow. Paint the head and the stripes with Black. Float the wings with White. Outline and paint the antenna and details lines on the wings with White. dot eyes the a very small White dot. FINISHING Use the fan brush to dip into water, but don t have too much water, mix with a little Black paint to inky consistence. Load the fan brush and tap over the trash to remove any blobs by lightly tapping on the handle of another paint brush. Now tap over the surface and repeat this process with Black. Let dry. Always Protect your finished MB piece with 2 coats of varnish. The February Paint Project The star ornaments are prepped and ready to paint. Bring your normal painting supplies. The colors we are going to be using are, Deep Midnite Blue, White and Tuscan Red. We will have these available. Old, used dark graphite is recommended. Please bring smallish star stencils IF you have any and stencil brushes or soft deerfoot brushes. Scotchbrand Magic tape ½ inch wide only works fine for straight stripes if you wish to use tape. It seem much tougher than using the matte spray on them and if you let them cure longer they are much less likely to scratch off. You can also respray if it is damaged and and you can't tell it was redone. I painted on a glass block that I had sprayed for a show and hadn't used until the other day and had to remove some paint from it and it wasn't coming off I grab a paper towel and alcohol and removed the paint without hurting the frosted part. I bought it at Walmart. Nelda

6 These 2019 Proposed Bylaw Changes will be voted on at the February 16,2019 meeting. ARTICLE IV. DUES Section 2. Dues 2019 Proposed Bylaw Changes Membership Dues shall be paid annually on a calendar year basis. Dues for ensuing calendar year are October 1 and delinquent November 1. New membership privileges are effective October 1, with the exception of voting or running for office which shall begin January 1. Membership Dues shall be paid annually as stated in the Standing Rules Rationale: Clarification ARTICLE VI. ELECTED OFFICERS Sections : 3. Duties of officers/ c and d The Secretary shall record minutes of all meetings of the chapter and of the Board of Directors. These minutes shall be kept in books, which are the property of the chapter, and shall be a complete and clear record of activities. The Secretary shall provide a copy of the minutes of each meeting the Society Office. The Treasurer shall receive all monies of the chapter, shall keep an accurate record of receipts and expenditures, pay all bills upon approval of the Board of Directors, and shall prepare a complete report at the end of the calendar year, The Treasurer shall provide a copy of the report to the President to be sent to the Society Office with the Annual Report. present a statement of account at every meeting of the chapter and when requested by the Board of Directors, and shall prepare a complete report at the end of the calendar year. A Vice President/President Elect so selected shall not succeed to the office of Presidency except by election at the next regular election. Vacancies in office shall be filled by a majority vote of the Board of Directors. Rationale: Clarification ARTICLE XII. AMENDMENTS Section 2. & 3. Prior to voting upon them, all proposed amendments to the bylaws must be submitted to the Society for approval. After approval by the Society, these bylaws may be altered or changed by a 2/3 vote of the members present at a meeting at which a quorum is present, provided that the proposed changes have been presented in writing to the members at least two weeks prior to the meeting at which voting takes place. Rationale: No longer need the Society to approve our bylaws
