SUPPLIES DA Dura Clear Soft Touch Varnish # DA Glistening Snow Tex #87429 DA Glamour Dust Glitter Paint: Sizzling Red #13592 Limelight #13594 Sapphire #13600 Gold Glitz #13590 SURFACE Vintage Santa Ornaments, set of 3 #80859 PREPARATION FOR ALL SANTAS: (I used the 6 filbert for most of the broader basecoating; the 1 and 3 rounds for smaller detail basecoats. I used the 14 shader for most of the larger floats, moving to the 8 shader for smaller floats.) Faces: Base in Dusty Rose, let dry. Fill in the shape of the eyes with Snow White; let dry and fill in the pupils with Lamp Black. Beards: Base all the beards in Slate Grey; the lip in Dusty Rose. Fur Trim: Base in Bleached Sand. Boots: Base all the boots in Burnt Umber, the soles in Lamp Black. Gloves: Base in Burgundy Wine; when dry, line the zigzag with Cotton Candy. Green Coat Santa The coat and hat are based in Light Lime. The bell is based in Spicy Mustard. The backpack is Royal Purple. The bear is Burnt Umber. There are two presents in the backpack; one is based in Burgundy Wine, the other is Winter Blue. Pink Coat Santa The coat and hat are based in Cotton Candy. The buttons are Lamp Black. The pants are Burgundy Wine. The shirt is Bleached Sand. The tree is Hauser Medium Green; trunk is Burnt Umber. The present is based in Winter Blue. Blue Coat Santa The coat and hat are based in Winter Blue. His belt is Burnt Umber; the belt buckle is Spicy Mustard. The candy cane is based in Bleached Sand; when dry base the red stripes in with Burgundy Wine, the green stripe is Plantation Pine. The main section of the basket is Honey Brown, the upper and lower trim, and the handle are Burnt Umber. The green present in the bag is based in Hauser Medium Green; the ribbon is Spicy Mustard. The round present is based in Royal Purple, the ribbon is Spicy Mustard. The ball in the back of the basket has variegated sections of Spicy Mustard and Honey Brown. 2 artistsclub.com

3 PAINTING INSTRUCTIONS FOR ALL SANTAS: Faces: Use the 8 shader, side-loaded in a brush mix of Dusty Rose + Burnt Sienna, to shade the faces (under the hat, down the sides, and across the cheeks). Use the 8 shader and a small side-load of Burgundy Wine to float the red cheeks. The eyes have a tiny highlight of Snow White. Line the upper lash line with thin Lamp Black. The eyebrows are Snow White. Beard and Mustaches: Use the 3 round and Snow White to stroke across the beards and mustaches; staying on top of the ridges, so that some of the grey still shows through. I also decided they were a bit too light, so I used the 8 stippler and Burnt Umber and scrubbed in random areas over the beard (to antique it a bit). Fur Trim: Use the 6 stippler and Snow White to brighten the trim, randomly. Drybrush scrub (to antique a bit) using the 8 stippler and Burnt Umber; randomly over the fur trim. Gloves: Drybrush scrub over the front of the gloves using Cotton Candy and the 6 stippler. Boots: Drybrush scrub on the top of the boots and across the soles, and to help accentuate the etch lines, with Snow White and the 8 stippler. artistsclub.com 3

4 Green Coat Santa 1.) Using the 6 stippler and Plantation Pine, tap stipple over the tall engraved tree on the left; now quickly, before it dries, wipe the color off the top of the coat (so that it only remains in the engraved area). 2.) Using the 6 stippler loaded in Burnt Umber, tap stipple over the deer and the tree beside the deer on the right; now quickly, again, before it dries, wipe the color off the top of the coat (so that it only remains in the engraved area). Don t stress if some remains to stain the top, I think it adds to the antiqued look of the vintage Santa. 3.) Use the stylus and Snow White to scatter dots over the green coat. Shade the coat and hat using the 14 shader and a side-load of Plantation Pine. Float sideloaded tints of Turquoise Blue in random areas (in a circular, messy float); it just gives it a pretty accent. Drybrush highlights using the 8 stippler, and Snow White. Float highlights using the 8 shader and a sideload of Snow White. Float Plantation Pine over the tall engraved tree on the left; float with Burnt Umber around the deer and tree on the right. Detail stitches on the hat are lined with Snow White. Use the 8 stippler and Burnt Umber to drybrush scrub Burnt Umber in random areas over the hat and coat, to antique it a 4 artistsclub.com

5 bit. If it gets too dirty just scrub the highlight color back over it. No sweat! 4.) Bell: The bell has detail lines on the main part with thin Milk Chocolate; the stripes and dots are Lamp Black. Float shading with Milk Chocolate; highlight with Snow White. 5.) Sack: Drybrush scrub to highlight using the 8 stippler and Snow White (scrub out most of the color on a dry paper towel before moving to surface). Float a tint of Turquoise Blue in a few random areas, so pretty! 6.) Bear in Sack: The eyes, nose and nose lines are Lamp Black. Float a teeny-tiny float of Burgundy Wine on the cheeks, just to give him a little color. Drybrush scrub using the 6 stippler and Bleached Sand to highlight and emphasize the texture on the bear. 7.) Presents in Sack: The red package has polka dots of Cotton Candy; highlight using the 6 stippler and Cotton Candy. The bow tie is Cotton Candy. The blue package has polka dots and bow tie, of Uniform Blue; highlight with the 6 stippler and Snow White. Pink Coat Santa 1.) Using the 6 stippler and Plantation Pine, tap stipple over the tall engraved tree on the right; now quickly, artistsclub.com 5

6 before it dries, wipe the color off the top of the coat (so that it only remains in the engraved area). 2.) Using the 6 stippler loaded in Burnt Umber, tap stipple over the deer and the tree beside the deer on the left; now quickly, again, before it dries, wipe the color off the top of the coat (so that it only remains in the engraved area). Shade the coat and hat using the 14 shader and a side-load of Rookwood Red; repeat shading with Burgundy Wine to perk it up a bit! Float sideloaded tints of Pumpkin in random areas (in a circular, messy float); it just gives it a pretty accent. Drybrush highlights using the 8 stippler, and Snow White. Float highlights using the 8 shader and a side-load of Snow White. Float a touch of Plantation Pine over the tall engraved tree on the right; float with Burnt Umber around the deer and tree on the left. Detail stitches on the hat are lined with Snow White. Use the 8 stippler and Burnt Umber to drybrush scrub Burnt Umber in random areas over the hat and coat, to antique it a bit. If it gets too dirty just scrub the highlight color back over it. 4.) Vest: Use the liner and add variegated stripes on the vest with thin Burgundy Wine and thin Plantation Pine. Shade with Plantation Pine and add the buttons with Lamp Black. 5.) Pants: Scrub highlights with Snow White, 8 stippler, to emphasize the creases. 6.) Tree: Shade under each layer with Plantation Pine; highlight with a drybrush scrub of Snow White, using the 6 stippler (scrub it across the limbs of the tree and trunk, so that the striations of the etch lines show). 7.) Present: The blue present has polka dots and bow tie of Snow White. Shade the present with Deep Midnight Blue (I d move to the smaller shader, size 8, for shading all the tiny areas); highlight with the 6 stippler and Snow White. The red tie is Burgundy Wine. Blue Coat Santa 1.) Using the 6 stippler and Plantation Pine, tap stipple over the tall engraved tree on the right; now quickly, before it dries, wipe the color off the top of the coat (so that it only remains in the engraved area). 2.) Using the 6 stippler loaded in Burnt Umber, tap stipple over the deer and the tree beside the deer on the left; now quickly, again, before it dries, wipe the color off the top of the coat (so that it only remains in the engraved area). Don t stress if some color remains to stain around it, I think that it adds to the antiqued look of the vintage Santa. 3.) Use the stylus and Snow White to scatter dots over the blue coat. Line stripes down the coat using the liner and Snow White. Shade the coat and hat using the 14 shader and a side-load brush mix of Winter Blue + Deep Midnight Blue. Float side-loaded tints of Royal Purple in random areas (in a circular, messy float); it just gives it a pretty accent. Drybrush highlights using the 8 stippler, and Snow White. Float highlights using the 8 shader and a side-load of Snow White. Float Plantation Pine over the tall engraved tree on the left; float with Burnt Umber around the deer and tree on the right. Detail stitches on the hat edge are lined with Snow White. Use the 8 stippler and Burnt Umber to drybrush scrub Burnt Umber in random areas over the hat and coat, to antique it a bit. If it gets too dirty just scrub the highlight color back over it. 4.) Belt and Buckle: Use the 6 stippler and Snow White to drybrush scrub over the belt and buckle, to help show the etched detail. 5.) Candy Cane: (I didn t do anything more to the candy cane, except when all the painting is finished and I added the Glamour Dust Glitter Paint; the instructions are under: Sparkles!) 6.) Basket of Goodies: The weave of basket is shaded with Milk Chocolate; highlight the entire basket, using the 6 stippler and Snow White (to emphasize the etch lines). The green package has dots of Light Lime; the ribbon is Spicy Mustard. The purple package has stripes of Snow White; with a ribbon of Spicy Mustard. Shade the green package with Plantation Pine; shade the purple package with a brush mix of Royal Purple + a touch of Lamp Black. Highlight with a drybrush scrub of Snow White, use the 6 stippler. The ball is shaded with Milk Chocolate; drybrush scrub a highlight using Snow White, use the 6 stippler. FINISHING 1.) Varnish as desired; attach hanging thread and enjoy! 2.) Use the Glamour Dust Glitter Paint to enhance all the colors! The Sizzling Red looks lovely, side-load floated on the red areas (darker areas of pink coat and hat, the gloves, pants, etc.). The Sapphire looks great floated on the blue areas (darker areas of the blue coat and hat, blue presents, etc.). The Limelight is wonderful side-load floated on the green areas (darker areas of the green coat and hat; the tree, the green presents, etc.). 3.) Use a small old brush, or stippler, to tap small amounts of the Glistening Snow Tex in random areas over the Santa s: All fur trim; the boots; the beards; tree, and in little crevices that snow might accumulate! 6 artistsclub.com
