3 PAINTING INSTRUCTIONS: Snow Bases The snow bases for each bobble head are done exactly the same. Basecoat them solidly with Blue Haven. Let dry. Drybrush with Warm White (letting some of the Blue Haven show through in the creases). Santa Start by basecoating his face with Warm Beige (Fleshtone). You may need to apply two coats for solid coverage. Let dry, then drybrush Natural Buff across the center of the face. Lightly drybrush Tomato Red on his cheeks and nose (I added a bit more to the cheeks). Soften and blend these areas by drybrushing with additional Natural Buff. Basecoat his entire beard with Grey Sky. Make sure to get into all the creases! Once dry, drybrush with Bleached Sand, then drybrush again with Warm White. Shade around the face and underneath his mustache with thinned Graphite. (You can dab this back with a small piece of soft cloth, if necessary.) His eyes are also carefully lined with thinned Graphite. The inside of his mouth is Black. His lip is an equal mix of Warm Beige and Tomato Red. His suit and hat are based solidly with Rookwood Red. You may need to apply two coats for solid coverage. Let dry, then drybrush heavily with Tomato Red. Basecoat all fur trim (on hat, his suit and cuffs) with Antique White. Try to fill in all of the creases. Let dry. Create a thinned wash of Honey Brown and wash over these areas; this will help fill in any creases you may have missed. Wipe it back with a soft cloth, making sure to leave the Honey Brown in all the creases. Let dry completely, then drybrush with Warm White. Gift Basecoat Santa s gift with Olive Green. Drybrush with Wasabi Green. Stripes are solid Kelly Green. Bow with Ribbon is solid Salem Blue. Once dry, wash over bow with thinned Graphite and wipe back; leave the Graphite in the creases to show the bow s detail. Santa s Accessories Santa s gloves are based solidly with an equal mix of Hauser Medium Green and Kelly Green. Let dry, then drybrush with Irish Moss. His boots are based in Black and highlighted with a bit of Graphite on top. Next, add just a touch of Warm White to your Graphite to highlight even more. His belt and buttons are solid Black. Paint the buckle on his belt solidly with Dazzling Metallics Splendid Gold. artistsclub.com 3

5 Snowman Start by basecoating his head and belly with Warm White. To build up this color quickly and to add a bit a texture, pounce on your second coat of Warm White. Let dry. Pounce on an additional coat if needed. Wash a bit of thinned Salem Blue in the creases of his eyes and his mouth. Wipe back with a soft cloth if necessary, you just want the blue color in the creases only. Once this has dried, paint the eyes with Black (leaving the Salem Blue outline around the eye). Dot each eye with a tiny dot of Warm White. Lightly drybrush his cheeks with Tomato Red. Tone this down by drybrushing over it with Warm White. Basecoat his nose solidly in Burnt Orange. Drybrush this with Marigold and then go back over it lightly with Burnt Orange to help blend. Coat Basecoat the snowman s coat with an equal mix of Hauser Medium Green and Kelly Green. You may need to apply two coats for solid coverage. Once dry, drybrush with Irish Moss. The fur trim is done the same way we did on the Santa; basecoat with Antique White. Try to fill in all of the creases. Let dry. Create a thinned wash of Honey Brown and wash over these areas; this will help fill in any creases you may have missed. Wipe it back with a soft cloth, making sure to leave the Honey Brown in all the creases. Let dry completely, then drybrush with Warm White. Snowman s Accessories Basecoat his gloves and his hatband solidly with Olive Green. Once dry, drybrush with Wasabi Green. Finish his hat by painting it in Black. Drybrush the hat to highlight with Graphite. Then add just a touch of Warm White to your Graphite to highlight the areas around the hat s brim. Once this has dried, take Warm White and dab it onto the top edge of the hat and also along the front of the brim to resemble snow. His scarf is based solidly in Rookwood Red. You may need to apply an additional coat for solid coverage. Let dry, then drybrush heavily with Tomato Red. Once dry, wash a small amount of thinned Graphite into each dot on the scarf and wipe back so the Graphite just stays in the outline of the dot. Once this has dried, finish the dots with Warm White (leaving the Graphite outline artistsclub.com 5

7 around the dot). The fringe on this scarf is based solidly in Salem Blue (make sure to fill in the creases!) Drybrush with Warm White. His boots are based in Black and highlighted with a bit of Graphite on top. Next, add just a touch of Warm White to your Graphite to highlight even more. Paint his belt and buttons solid Black. Paint the buckle on his belt solidly with Dazzling Metallics Splendid Gold. Candy Cane Basecoat the candy cane solidly in Warm White. You may need an additional coat of Warm White to build up the color. Stripes are solid Tomato Red. FINISHING: Once you ve completed our little snow buddies, we will need to seal them. I sprayed sealed mine with Americana s Matte Spray Finisher. Once this has dried, you may want to add a bit of extras to these happy fellows, by adding Ice Crystal Glamour Dust Paint to the snow bases, the snow on the snowman s hat, the dots on his scarf and Santa s gift. You may also add Dura Clear Gloss Varnish to all buttons, the ribbon/bow on Santa s gift, Santa s lip and also to the eyes on the snowman, as well as his candy cane and nose! Thank You!
