Use the 10 filbert loaded in Snow White, base the snowy ground area. Holly Tree 1.) Use the 10 filbert to randomly base the holly leaves; some with Foliage Green and some with Hauser Medium Green. Use the 10 filbert to undercoat the backside of the leaves in Plantation Pine. 2.) Use the 8 filbert and Boysenberry Pink to undercoat all of the berries; let them dry and then use the 8 filbert to apply a medium wash of Burgundy Wine. 3.) Use the 8 filbert and Burnt Umber to base in the trunk. 4.) Use the 8 filbert and Snow White to fill in the area under the tree. Use the 10 filbert loaded in Burnt Umber, base the bark areas, which includes the trunk of the tree and the bark on all the slices. 2.) Use the 10 filbert loaded in Burlap to base the inside centers of the rounds. 2 artistsclub.com

3 PAINTING INSTRUCTION Rustic Rounds Tree 1.) Using the 3/4 glaze wash, shade the centers with Burnt Umber. (Apply this toward the back of each round, and randomly on the front and sides.) Use the same brush side-loaded in a brush mix of Burnt Umber + Lamp Black, float the darkest tones of the bark. (Toward the back next to the trunk, and randomly on the bark of the rounds). 2.) Using the 14 shader side-loaded in Plantation Pine, softly float a few random tints on the rounds. Using the same brush, side-loaded in Honey Brown, float a few random golden tints on the rounds. 3.) Use the 10 stippler loaded in Burnt Umber, (scrub out most of the color on a dry paper towel) and scrub, moving across the centers to help accentuate the round s lines. Scrub out most of the color onto a dry paper towel (until most of the brown is out); dirty brush into Snow White, (again, scrub on a dry paper towel) and softly scrub across the bark, which includes the trunk of the tree and the bark on all rounds. (This really helps to accentuate the bark effect!) 4.) Use the 14 shader and a side-load of Snow White to float touches of snow on the bark of the rounds on the tree. Use the 14 shader and a sideload of Glitter Paint Gold Glitz, float over the rounds of the tree (as much, or as little as you like!). 5.) At this point, I loved the look of the tree slices and could have stopped here and been happy! So, the next step is optional! For the berry/leaf detail in the center of the rounds, I simply used the stylus and Burgundy Wine as a center dot; then used the stylus and Plantation Pine and Foliage Green to dot the leaves (I pulled them outward with the stylus, to resemble a leaf). When dry, use the 14 shader and a side-load of Sizzling Red and float all the way around the center berry dot. 6.) The lower base area of the tree has simple strokes and dots: artistsclub.com 3

5 Use the 6 shader loaded in Foliage Green and pull a leaf stroke mid-way around the base. When dry, use the 8 shader and side-load float on the left side, with Plantation Pine. Dot between the strokes with the stylus and Burgundy Wine. The little decorative strokes above and below this detail are with Foliage Green, and as it moves toward the snowy ground area, tip the dirty brush into Snow White before stroking. Holly Tree 1.) Light Green Holly Leaves: Use the 3/4 glaze wash and a side-load of Hauser Medium Green to float the shading on the back of the leaves; use the 14 shader and a side-load of the same color to float down beside the center vein. Deepen the floats on the leaves next to the trunk using Plantation Pine. Use the 8 stippler and Snow White to drybrush scrub over the leaves to highlight, it will help to accentuate the etched markings on the leaves (love it!). (I did not float any highlights on the leaves, but if you think it needs it, use the same color that you drybrushed with.) 2.) Dark Green Holly Leaves: Use the 3/4 glaze wash and a side-load of Plantation Pine to float the shading on the back of the leaves; deepen with a dirty brush into Midnite Green. (Use this color to add any further depth in toward the center of the tree, in open areas that need to be dark.) Use the 14 shader and a side-load of the Plantation Pine to float beside the center vein. Use the 8 stippler and Foliage Green to drybrush scrub over the leaves to highlight; dirty brush into Snow White and further brighten here and there. (Scrubbing will help to accentuate the carved etchings.) 3.) Berries: Shade the berries (this does not have to be perfect!) using Burgundy Wine + Black Plum, 1:1; using the 14 shader. To separate the berries, as needed, use the liner and Black Plum. (You may need to tap some of this color into the deep crevices of the berries too.) Use the 8 stippler loaded in Snow White and lightly drybrush scrub small highlights on the berries. 4.) Tree Trunk: Use the 10 stippler and Snow White to drybrush scrub over the trunk, it will help to emphasize the bark effect. 5.) Lower Base: The lower section of the base is striped using the 14 shader and Burgundy Wine. Line between these stripes using thinned Plantation Pine; use the stylus and the same color to dot over this line. Use the 14 shader and a side-load of Glistening Snow Tex and liberally float (dab!) this for the glitter effect on the snowy ground area. (Fun!) artistsclub.com 5

6 FINISHING 1.) Use the Glamour Dust Glitter Paint and the 14 shader to float the glitter paint, it will help to accentuate and enhance the trees: Gold Glitz: Float this on the tree slices (rounds); as much or as little as you would like. Sizzling Red: You can side-load this medium and float it onto the berries of the holly tree; I applied it onto the red stripes on the base of the holly tree. I also lightly floated around the berry dot on the center of the tree slice/rounds. Limelight: I liberally floated this onto the lighter leaves of the holly tree. I also sideloaded it and applied it onto the green base of the tree sliced rounds tree. Emerald: I liberally floated this onto the darker leaves of the holly tree. 2.) Apply the soft touch varnish using the brush of your choice. 3.) Use the 14 shader and a side-load of the Glistening Snow Tex (side-loaded) to add dimensional touches onto the trees and over the bases. I liberally applied it to the bases, as I wanted them to really sparkle enjoy! 6 artistsclub.com
