3 Preparation: Sand with fine sandpaper until smooth. Wipe with a tack cloth to remove any remaining dust. Seal with sealer using an old brush, sand, and wipe again. Painting Instructions Base the green background area by using a slip slap brush technique. Load your 3/4 Glaze Wash brush with Sunny Day and dip one corner of the brush into Olive Green, do not blend your brush on your palette. Take your brush directly to the piece and using a slip slap brush technique, base the ground area with this mixture reloading the brush as needed until you have achieved a mottled look. Dry brush Light Mocha onto the beach area in the background and using the dirty brush tap into Asphaltum and drybrush to add depth. Base the water/sky area with the slip slap brush technique described above, load your ¾ Glaze Wash brush with Indian Turquoise and dip one corner into Snow White. Base the area reloading the brush as needed until you have achieved the mottled look. Using the ¼ Highlighter dry brush Snow White randomly onto the ocean in the distance to highlight and wash thinned down Navy Blue to randomly shade and add depth to the background. Using the same dirty brush stipple Navy Blue and Snow White randomly onto the areas closer to the beach to simulate the look of the ocean washing onto the beach and the waves breaking. Using the same brush as in the previous application randomly stipple small amounts of Electric Pink to further highlight the ocean where the waves break on the beach. Note the pattern photo. Load a Deerfoot brush with a double load of Hauser Medium Green on the heel of the brush and Olive Green onto the toe and randomly stipple the grass area moving your brush around and reloading as needed. Continue to reload and stipple until you are happy with the effect, this will take a few layers of paint to achieve the depth that is needed. Load your deer foot brush with Electric Pink and randomly stipple into the grass area. Dry brush Honey Brown lightly onto the grassy area in front of the village. Float shade with Hauser Dark Green Village and Stone Wall: Base the stone buildings and the rock wall with Light Mocha and stipple with Slate Grey. Float shade with Payne s Grey on the stone buildings, around the windows and doorways, inside the windows, on the grey roof, and on 2

4 the stone wall. Wash a transparent layer of Napa Red into the windows to give that glow. Base the shingles on the lower roof of the stone building near the red wood building with Lamp Black and line the shingles on the upper Slate Grey roof with Lamp Black. Highlight the shingles on the Slate Grey roof with a glaze float of Snow White and highlight the Slate Grey roof on the red wood building with a glaze float of Snow White. Base the stone pathways in the village with Slate Grey. Line shade with Payne s Grey. Base the doors, roof, and wood building with Watermelon Slice, float shade with Napa Red and drybrush highlight with Electric Pink. Base the thatched roofs with Honey Brown, float shade with Burnt Sienna, and line the highlight with Light Buttermilk to mimic the look of thatching. Base the chimney on the smaller building with Lamp Black and line highlight with Snow White. Base the chimney on the larger building with Napa Red and the cap with Lamp Black. Outline the individual stones on the stone wall with Payne s Grey and highlight by tapping Snow White onto the stones to highlight and deepen with a drybrush of Electric Pink. Line the details in the village with Lamp Black. (Note pattern photo.) Line the flower stems in front of the wall with Hauser Dark Green, Hauser Medium Green, and Olive Green. Stipple the flowers with Lavender and stipple highlight with Electric Pink. Base the flag with Lavender and then line the flag pole with Lamp Black. Outline the random grass areas with Hauser Dark Green. Stipple the trees with a double load of Hauser Dark Green and Snow White tap blending on your palette; stipple the trees deepening the highlight on the right of the trees with Snow White and the left of the trees with Hauser Dark Green. Dip dot the trees with Watermelon Slice and base the tree trunk with Honey Brown. 3 Irish Lass: Base the face, neck, and arms with Hi-Lite Flesh, shade with Shading Flesh and deepen the shaded areas with a glaze float of Burnt Sienna. Float highlight Light Buttermilk onto the nose, upper lip, forehead, ears, arms and neck. Using a circular motion dry brush the cheeks with Peony Pink. Dip dot the eyes with Lamp Black and using a stylus dip dot the highlight in the eyes with Snow White. Base the dress and shoes with Watermelon Slice, float shade with Napa Red, and deepen the shaded areas with Black Plum. Dry brush highlight with Electric Pink. Base the socks with Snow White and line with Lavender. Base the pinafore with Lavender and dry brush highlight with Electric Pink. Base the patches on the dress with Watermelon Slice and line the pattern with Electric Pink. Dip dot the buttons with Black Plum. Base the girl s hair with Burnt Sienna. Using

5 a Script Liner, line the following paint colors in the hair layering the colors so that each previous color still shows but develops depth: Watermelon Slice, Black Plum, Honey Brown, and Burnt Sienna. Continue working until you are happy with the result. (Note the pattern photo.) Buttons: Base the centers of the wood buttons with Olive Green, Watermelon Slice, Electric Pink, and Lavender leaving the outer edges the color of the wood. Dip dot the Olive Green button with Watermelon Slice, the Electric Pink buttons with Lavender, the Lavender buttons with Electric Pink, and the Watermelon Slice button with Electric Pink. Tie twine, ribbon, or thread onto the buttons. Your choice of colors. Finishing: Glue the buttons onto the front of the wood piece with DecoArt Americana Wood Glue. Note the pattern photo for placement. Line the details with the Identi Pen. Varnish and enjoy. 4
