The brush must be dry. When Drybrushing, I load my paint from a dry surface, not a wet palette as the moisture will get into the brush and make the paint go on smudgy. I also keep an old towel handy; it is great for cleaning the brush between colors. To start, load the brush by tipping it into the first color, blend out on palette paper then wipe 1

3 and excess paint off on a paper towel. Lightly scrub the surface to apply the color. Use the brush on its side and scrub side to side or up and down. Start soft then press harder depending how much color you need. The harder you press, the more color you will get. The first drybrush coat should allow some of the background to still show through, additional colors should cover less area that the first coat. Clean the brush as best you can on your old towel, then pick up the next color. Apply in the same manner using less. Float / Shade: I always float my color with the angular shaders. Mop to soften with a Mop. I shade around my design elements before basecoating; I like the softer look I get when I do this. Unless other wise indicated, I shade around the entire shape and deepen in corners and under design elements for more depth. Line: Unless otherwise stated, all lining is done with the #10/0 Liner and the paint watered down to an ink-like consistency. Preparation: Note: Refer to the color photo for shading and detail placement. Basecoat the background with DecoArt Chalky Finish Paint Delicate. Trace on the pattern. Shade around the entire design with Mustard Seed. Using the Laurie Speltz Foam Stamps, stamp random patches of Mustard Seed, Spa Blue, Purple Cow. (I used the two dots and the wavy one.) Painting Instructions: Bunny: Head, Hands and legs: Basecoat with Burlap. Shade with Espresso. Drybrush with Oyster Beige. 2

4 Deepen the shading with Asphaltum. Float a highlight on the tips of the hands and outer edges of the legs. Drybrush the cheeks and inside the ears with Coral Blush. Base the eyes with Light Buttermilk. Shade the bottom with Aqua Sky. Base the pupils with Lamp Black. Dot with Warm White. Float the top of the cheeks with Coral Blush. Dot the mouth with Watermelon Slice. Line the stitching, whiskers, nose and eyes with Lamp Black. Dot the cheeks with Warm White. Dress and bow Basecoat with Aqua Sky. Shade with Peacock Teal. Drybrush with Spa Blue. Deepen shading around the cupcake and sleeves with more Peacock Teal. Highlight the sleeves with a float of Warm White. Dot the dress and bow with Warm White. Line or dot the hearts with Watermelon Slice. Write the words with the fine tip of the Identi-Pen. Line the necklace with Lamp Black. Adhere a flat back crystal to add some sparkle. Base the bloomers with a wash of Light Buttermilk. Highlight along the bottom with Warm White. Line the stripes with Coral Blush. Line the stitching and the bow with Lamp Black. Float the scallop collar and the scallops on the bloomers with Warm White. Dot with Warm White. Base the shoes with Lamp Black. Dot with Warm White. Cupcake Base with frosting with Light Buttermilk. Shade with Moon Yellow. Highlight with Warm White. Base the bottom with Purple Cow. Shade with Royal Purple. Drybrush with a brush mix of Purple Cow and Warm White. Dot with Light Buttermilk. Hearts and Flowers: 3

5 Hearts Basecoat with Coral Blush. Shade the left sides with Watermelon Slice. Highlight the upper right sides with Coral Shell. Deepen shading with Cinnamon Drop. Line a highlight with Warm White. Flowers Basecoat with all the flowers with Light Buttermilk. Shade around the flower centers with Purple Cow, Coral Shell and Aqua Sky. Highlight all the petals with Warm White. Basecoat the flower centers with Moon Yellow. Shade with Mustard Seed. Highlight with Light Buttermilk. Deepen the shading with Burnt Sienna. Line the swirls with Lamp Black. Line a highlight with Warm White. Line the stems with Evergreen. Base the leaves with Foliage Green. Highlight with Moon Yellow. Shade with Evergreen. Bird Basecoat with Coral Blush. Shade the front with Watermelon Slice. Highlight the top and tips of the tail feathers with Coral Shell. The wing is made up of 3 strokes of Watermelon Slice tipped in Coral Shell. The dots on the body are Coral Shell. The beak is Mustard Seed. The eye is Lamp Black with a Warm White highlight. Outline with Lamp Black. Lettering: For the lettering, I inked it in first with the fine tip of the Identi-pen then filled in with the liner brush and Lamp Black. Finishing: Outline as desired with Lamp Black. Line the stitching around the outer edge of the heart with Lamp Black. Drybrush a little Foliage Green under the bunny for a hint of grass. Varnish and enjoy 4
