Basecoat the blackboard area with DecoArt Chalkboard Paint per the instructions on the bottle. Basecoat the design area at the top, the frame around the blackboard and the bottom peg area with Vintage Effect Wash Beige. Basecoat the edges, chalk tray and pegs with Lamp Black. Allow to dry well. Apply the main pattern lines and basecoat as follows: Bright Blue letter C ; paint in left bottle Cinnamon Drop letter a ; paint in right bottle; middle brush handle Purple Rain first letter e ; right brush handle; stripes on paint tube Foliage Green letter t ; paint labels; left brush handle Spicy Mustard letter r ; label on varnish jar Canyon Orange second letter E Honey Brown ruler; brush bristles; paint bottle tops Sable Brown palette; palette knife handle Slate Grey brush ferrules; palette knife blade; top & bottom of paint tube; varnish jar lid Oyster Beige light stripes on paint tube; varnish jar Neutral Grey brush can; center of varnish jar label Graphite stripes on paint bottle labels PAINTING INSTRUCTIONS Letters Shade the left side of the letters and where parts overlap; and highlight the right side of the letters as follows: Blue shade Midnite Blue; highlight Turquoise Blue Yellow shade Canyon Orange; highlight Primary Yellow Purple shade Midnite Blue; highlight Purple Cow Red shade Antique Maroon; highlight Fiery Red Green shade Leaf Green; highlight Margarita Orange shade Cinnamon Drop; highlight Primary Yellow Outline with Lamp Black

5 Palette Shade around the palette, against the cut edges and around the hole with Asphalutm. Highlight the cut edges and drybrush a highlight in the center of the palette with Oyster Beige. The paint blobs are the same colors as you used for the letters, shade the bottom of them and highlight the top of them with the same colors as the letters. Outline with Lamp Black. Paint Bottles Shade the top of the lids, bottom of the flip tops and both sides of the lids with Burnt Sienna. Highlight the center of the lids with Primary Yellow. Shade both sides of the blue paint with Midnite Blue and highlight the center with Turquoise Blue. Shade both sides of the red paint with Antique Maroon and highlight the center with Fiery Red. Shade both sides of the green parts of the labels with Leaf Green and highlight the centers with Margarita. Shade both sides of the gray stripes with Lamp Black and highlight the centers with Oyster Beige. Outline and add color names with Lamp Black. Brush Can Shade the brush can on the inside, under the lip and down both sides pulling in slightly at the bottom with Graphite. Highlight the center of the lip and center of the can with a drybrush of Oyster Beige. Shade the bottom of the brush bristles with Burnt Sienna and highlight the tips with Primary Yellow. Shade the left side of the ruler with Burnt Sienna and highlight the right side with Primary Yellow. Shade both sides and under the ferrule of the green brush handle with Leaf Green and highlight the center with Margarita. Shade both sides and under the ferrule of the red brush handle with Antique Maroon and highlight the center with Fiery Red. Shade both sides of the purple brush handle with Midnite Blue and highlight the center with Purple Cow. Shade both sides of the ferrules with Zinc and highlight the centers with Oyster Beige. Shade the edge, right side and under the blade of the palette knife with Zinc and highlight the left side with Oyster Beige. Shade both sides of the handle of the palette knife with Asphaltum and highlight the center with Oyster Beige. Line some grain lines with Asphaltum. Outline & add numbers to ruler with Lamp Black. Paint Tube Shade both sides of the light stripes on the paint tube with Slate Grey. Shade both sides of the purple stripes on the paint tube with Midnite Blue and highlight the center of them with Purple Cow. Shade the top and both sides of the lid; and bottom of the paint tube with Zinc and highlight the centers with Oyster Beige. Outline and add color name with Lamp Black. Checks on Frame With a ruler, mark off 1/2" checks on the frame around the blackboard. The checks are basecoated the same colors as the letters leaving a light check between each colored one. The light checks are shaded on the inside edge with Asphaltum and highlighted on the outside edge with Oyster Beige. The colored checks are shaded on the inside edge and highlighted on the outside edge with the colors used for the letters above. Line between the checks and add small hash marks along the lines with Lamp Black. FINISHING The background shading around the letters and design is Asphaltum. The jiggedy line around the design is Lamp Black. Finish the design area; edges and frame around the blackboard with DecoArt Dura Clear Soft Touch Varnish allow to dry well. Condition the blackboard area by rubbing with chalk and removing the excess with a dry cloth. Don t varnish the blackboard area. Varnish Jar Shade the top of the lid and both sides of the lid with Zinc & highlight the center of the lid with Oyster Beige. Shade both side of the jar with Slate Grey. Shade both sides of the yellow label with Canyon Orange and highlight the center areas with Primary Yellow. Shade both sides of the grey label with Graphite and highlight the center with Oyster Beige. Outline and add the word Varnish with Lamp Black. artistsclub.com 5
