Remove dust from surface with a damp cloth. Wipe off water can, apply sealer and let dry. Painting Instructions: Basecoat as follows: Santa Red The top portion of the water can and handle, and two of the wood banners Light Buttermilk Center section of the water can, and two of the wood banners Uniform Blue Bottom section and spout of water can, and two of the wood banners 1

3 For one red banner and on the red portion of the water can, including the handle, use the end of a paint brush, dip it into Uniform Blue and add random dip dots, reloading the end of the brush as needed. Let the blue dots dry completely and then with your stylus (choose a smaller tip than the blue dots) and Light Buttermilk, add 5 dip dots around the outside of each blue dot making it into a small flower. Reload the stylus as necessary. Let the dots dry completely before moving on when working on the water can. Second red banner: using your ½ Comb brush and a wash of Light Buttermilk, start at the top center of the banner and pull a wavy line down toward the point. Then pull another wavy line from the top to the bottom to the right and left side of your first line. Continue using the Light Buttermilk was to add horizontal wavy lines from left to right creating a plaid like pattern. When dry, use your liner brush and Uniform Blue to add a single wavy line between each of the large Light Buttermilk stripes, do this both vertically and horizontally. Light Buttermilk stripe on water can: take your liner brush and Santa Red and pull wavy lines from the red stripe to the blue stripe, continue this all the way around. Let dry. First Light Buttermilk banner: Using your ¾ scotch tape, apply a strip of tape down the center of the banner, then space the next stripe ¾ apart to the right and left and put down another strip of tape. I usually rub the tape edge where I will be painting with a paint bottle to make sure the tape is secure. Paint your stripes with Santa Red, this may take more than one coat, so don t remove the tape until you are happy with the coverage. Second Light Buttermilk banner: take the checkerboard stencil and lay it on top of the banner, (you will be using all three sizes and can stencil them at the same time), and using your Deerfoot brush and Uniform Blue, stencil the checkerboard. Let dry. First Uniform Blue banner: you will need the Quilt Block Stars & Heart Stencil. With your 2

4 Deerfoot brush and Light Buttermilk stencil stars onto one of the banners in any way that you like. You may have to be patient and wait for stars to dry before stenciling again to make sure that you do not smear the paint from the previous star. Once the banner is filled with stars, you are done. Second blue banner: take the Polka Dot stencil and lay it over the entire banner. Use your Deerfoot brush and Light Buttermilk and stencil the polka dots on. Let dry. Blue stripe on the water can: using the Quilt Block Stars & Heart Stencil along with Light Buttermilk and your Deerfoot brush, stencil three stars to the front and back of the water can. I chose not to add stars to the spout, but if you would like to feel free to do so. Finishing: Finish banners and water can with Americana Acrylic Sealer Finisher Matte Spray. String your banners onto your Jute string, alternating colors as you go, and securely tie knots at the ends. I used some patriotic ribbon to both ends for an 3

5 added touch. Make sure to leave enough Jute at each end to tie it to your mantle or wherever you would like to hang it. For the water can, I had some patriotic fabric on hand and created a fun rustic bow to tie to the handle as the finishing touch. 4
