2 Palette: PLAID FOLK ART ACRYLICS AND PIGMENTS PURE BLACK, BURNT UMBER, BURNT SIENNA, WICKER WHITE, YELLOW LIGHT, BARNYARD RED, and RED LIGHT. FOLK ART TEXTILE MEDIUM Brushes: ROYAL GOLDEN TAKLON SOFT GRIPS You can see these brushes if you go to Golden Taklons Shaders-150, Short Shaders [flats]-155, Angulars-160, Washes-700, Filberts-930, Rounds-250, Script Liners-585, Short Liners-595, Strokes-711 White Nylons-good for fabric painting 4010-Brights, 4090-Flats. Stitch Witchery material- this is used normally for bonding fabric for doing appliques, like Wonder Under...but we will use this material to transfer our design onto the fabric. It costs only about $1.27 per yard. I found it at Walmart in the fabric department. You will need 1 Black Sharpie and 1 Silver Sharpie pen. BEST TIP I VE EVER LEARNED!!! [Optional] If you are refurbishing a chair like I have done here-you need to prime with BullsEye Water based Bonding Primer Sealer-you can find this at Walmart, Lowes, or Home Depot. Latex Satin House paint [off white] Any type you like. MATERIALS: COW CHAIR CHAIR, CANVAS FABRIC OR OTHER FABRIC SUITABLE FOR CHAIR CUSHIONS. DESIGN COULD BE PAINTED ON THE WOOD SEAT OF A CHAIR ALSO. This chair I ve painted Mz. Bossy Cow on is an old chair that was already white. You could paint this on any chair with the right surface to adapt these designs to. If the chair needs to be repainted, I suggest cleaning the chair good, and priming it with Bulls Eye Bonding Sealer. Then apply a couple of coats of satin latex paint in an off white color. Allow to dry thoroughly.

3 [cont.] The Fabric I have used to paint paint this chair seat cover is Cotton Canvas. My chair has a removable chair seat bottom, which I am re-covering with the painted canvas cloth. I allowed about 6 inches extra on all four sides to make sure it will cover including the extra cushion for my comfort!!! I know about you but I like soft comfy seats to rest my back end on!! I found some great 1 foam pre cut cushions at Walmart, they re a 4-pak for under $8.00. And they are Made in the Good Ol U.S.A.!!!! BWWAAAKKK!! To transfer the design, use the Stitch Witchey material and Trace your pattern with the Black Sharpie Pen through this see through material. Then take the Silver Sharpie Pen and placing the pattern where you want it to be on the fabric, go over the Black Sharpie lines and it will go through this transparent material and leave a faint light gray line. NOTE: Outline the Cow only, not the inside details. Paint the design. SINCE THIS IS NOT GARMENT TO BE WASHED, I DON T ADD THE TEXTILE MEDI- UM WITH THE PAINT, HOWEVER I DO USE IT AS A MEDIUM FOR BLENDING AND SHADING ON THE FABRIC. Begin the Cow on the fabric. Using the #12- R SG 150 Shader- BASE the whole Cow with Wicker White. Use the # 8 & 10 for smaller areas on the pattern. Allow to dry. Now transfer the inside details onto the cow. Using the #8- R SG-150 shader, and the #2 -R SG-595 detailer, paint all the black spots on the cow. Leave white sockets for the eyes. Next mix a light pinky flesh color using Wicker White and a tad of Burnt Sienna, maybe adding a touch of Barn Red. Base the Udder and Nose and inside Ears with the Flesh tone. Using the #1/4 -R SG-160 angular, sideload and shade all the pink areas with Burnt Sienna + Barn Red to pink it up more. See Image for placement of shading. Highlight with White using the #1/4 R SG 160 angular. Shade around all the black spots with Burnt Umber using the #3/8 and the #1/4 R SG-160 angular brushes. See the Color Image to see where shading needs to be. Using the #3/8 -R SG -160 Angular, sideload Wicker White blended with textile medium and highlight all the black spots, and highlight Mz. Bossy some bangs. Finally, using the #5/0 -R SG-585 Liner, define the the udder, and mouth and nostrils. 3

4 [cont.] The eyes: Use the #2- R SG -155 Flat brush to paint a large round circle of Pure Black, accenting the iris with Burnt Umber with your #2- R SG -585 Liner, highlighting with Wicker White. Using the #5/0 R SG-585 detailer, and give Mz. Bossy some long white eyelashes. The right eye- [her left] -make long black eye lashes witht e #5/0 R SG 585 detailer. Using a large flat or a 1/2 Angular, sideload float on a horizon line at Mz. Bossy s Feet. Outline the remainder of the cow design with the #2- R SG -595 Liner. THE BORDER AROUND THE COW ON THE FABRIC Using the Stitch Witchery material, transfer the border around the cow onto the fabric like you did the cow outline. Pick up your #8 -R SG brush and some Barn Red and do the little oval shaped tabs on the left and right of the square. Next using the #4 R SG-4010 brush, and School Bus Yellow, and paint the half circles [these look just like Egg yolks to me] in the border on the top and bottom of the square.. Now paint the remainder of the Triangle with Pure Black using the # 4 -R SG-4010 brush. The small details inside these areas are done with a #2 R SG-595 brush using either Pure Black or Wicker White, or Red Light. Don t forget to add the blanket stitch lines around the inside of the Square. See the Image of the finished project for the line work designs I ve used. Next, Shade the border sections. Using a 3/8 R SG-160 angular, sideload float shade each area. Use Burnt Sienna on the Yellow, Burnt Umber on the Red. This wraps up the fabric painting. THE FRONT AND BACK OF THE CHAIR ON WOOD AREA Trace and Transfer the patterns onto the front and back of the chair, using graphite paper or your favorite method of transfer material. Using the #8 -R SG-150 shader, paint the black areas of the cows, and the smaller areas with the #2 R SG-595 brush. The white area is already there because the chair is already white. Now using the 1/4 -R SG -160 angular brush, Shade all around the black spots and oustide lines of the cow design. Using the Flesh tone mix and the #2 -R SG -595, paint the nose and the udder and inside the ears. Next, using the 1/4 -R SG-160 angular, sideload/ float/ shade inside the ears and the udder and the mouth and nostrils with Burnt Sienna and /or a tad of Barn Red to make it more pinkish shading. Use the # 5/0 -R SG-585 liner for black outlines and details where needed. The horizon line is a Sideloaded float of Burnt Umber using the 1/2 R SG 160 angular. 4

5 [cont.] THE BORDERS AROUND THE COWS ON THE WOOD AREAS Using the #10 R SG 150 brush, paint the oval shaped tabs [on the left and right of the square] with Barn Red. Paint the circles Pure Black and Wicker White using the # 10- R SG -155 flat brush. Paint the details on those areas using the#2- R SG-595. Using the 3/8 -R SG -160 angular, sideload/float shade the Barn Red with Burnt Umber, and the inside of the Square also using Burnt Umber. See the Image for the placement of the Faux Stitch details. I added chicken feet designs for the border around the chair back. You can use your own imagination on Your chair or piece that you adapt this design to. Be Creative and Have Fun!! Apply 6 coats of Minwax Polyacrylic Satin Varnish after the chair is thoroughly dry. 5 5
