1 Love Grows in my Garden" 2009 Lorrie Weber Palette (Delta Ceramcoat Paint) AC Flesh Adobe Red Black Candlelight Dark Forest Green Dusty Plum Eggplant Espresso Lime Sorbet Straw White Suggested Brushes I used Loew-Cornell LaCorneille Golden Taklon brushes in the following sizes: # 6, 10, Shader(7300C); # 0, 1 Round(7000C) #1 JSC MidLiner (JSC-1); ½, ¾ Wash (7550) Small Dome Round Surface 7.5 Cement Stepping Stone Other supplies: Palette (Styrofoam plate/tray or Palette Paper) Paper Towels Pencil / Stylus Rinse water container Tracing Paper Transfer Paper (Black and White) Before you begin... Either make or purchase a cement stepping stone. Wash thoroughly and wipe with a tack cloth to remove dust. Apply two coats of AC Flesh to the top surface of the stone. When dry, transfer the inner circle and basecoat Candlelight; basecoat the border Lime Sorbet+Dark Forest Green(2:1). Transfer the main pattern details. Shade the background against the border and around the snail and flower with AC Flesh. Basecoat as follows: Flower- Straw+Candlelight(1:1) Stem/Leaf- Dark Forest Green+(T)Lime Sorbet Snail Body- Lime Sorbet Snail Shell- Dusty Plum Let's Paint... Flower: 1. Drybrush down the center of the stem and in the center of the leaf with Lime Sorbet. 2. Shade down the left side of the stem and along both the top and bottom edges of the leaf with Dark Forest Green. When dry, shade along the top of the center vein in the flower leaf with Dark Forest Green floated in the ½ wash brush or large shader. 3. Highlight around the flower petals with Candlelight. 4. Shade between the petals with Straw. 5. Basecoat the flower center with Straw. 6. Strengthen the highlight on the tips of the petals with White. 7. Shade around the flower center with Espresso floating back to back around both the outside and inside edges. 8. Line the little hash marks inside the center with slightly thinned White using the liner brush. 9. Add Espresso and Espresso+(T)Black polka-dot accents around the center of the flower using the handle end of one of your brushes.

2 Snail: 1. Shade the snail body with a sheer float of Dark Forest Green up the left side of his neck and head all the way around and down the right side. 2. Pull his antennae with thinned Dark Forest Green in the liner brush. 3. Shade his shell with a mix of Dusty Plum+Eggplant(1:1) floating it around the shell and along the right side of the spiral pattern in the shell. 4. Brush mix Candlelight and Dusty Plum and float a highlight around the left side of the spiral pattern working right up against the shading in step Strengthen the shading with Eggplant+(T) Black+(T)AC Flesh to tone. Float this along the back of the shell and as a glaze on the previous shading. 6. Drybrush the cheeks and neck with Adobe Red using the Sm Dome Round brush. 7. Pull comma stroke ridges in the snail s shell with Dusty Plum+Eggplant(1:1) using the #1 round brush; pull the little accent lines in the shell with the same mix thinned in the liner. 8. Transfer the face details. The eyes are Black, basecoated with the #0 round; the mouth and eyebrows are pulled in the liner with thinned Black. 9. Float a tiny highlight across the bottom of his eye; add a tiny white sparkle in the top of his eye with your stylus. Ferns 1. Using the liner brush pull stems of thinned Dark Forest Green+(T)Lime Sorbet. 2. Load the #6 shader in Dark Forest Green+(T)Lime Sorbet and pull the fern leaves in a short s stroke motion. For variation you can pick up more Dark Forest Green in your brush as you pull the fern in the top border, then pick up Straw in the brush while stroking the lower two ferns. 3. Pull curly-cues with thinned Dark Forest Green+(T)Black in your liner brush. Those Finishing Touches... Add tiny accent dip-dots around the ferns, stem and leaf of the flower using Straw on the small end of a stylus. Enjoy! :o) Project design and written instruction 2009 by artist Lorrie Weber.
