Redeemer Lutheran Church 743 East Magnolia Salina KS JUNE BOARD MEETING 6:00 p.m. MISSON STATEMENT SEPTEMBER HOSTESS Becky Augustine Patricia Beaver P.J. Johnson Janet Whitaker The purpose of the Guild shall be to provide an avenue to enrich the community through quilt making, to stimulate an interest in quilts to promote and advance the art of quiltmaking and related subjects and to encourage the preservation of quilts and their history.
2 FROM THE PRESIDENT Karen Sutton Karen s Korner, I can't believe that the Quilter's Trio is just over a month away! I hope you're all working on items for the auction and thinking about which quilts you want to display. The plans are coming together nicely for the luncheon, but we are still in need of some kitchen help the day of the luncheon. Cyndi has a comprehensive list of the jobs to be done and the time it will take to do them. She is doing an incredible amount of the preparation herself, but she needs a number of people to help for minutes on Saturday. PLEASE, check the list of jobs to be done and volunteer to help. There is no way a handful of people can do this by themselves. Every member is benefiting from this event and we all need to do our part to make it successful. Also, don't forget to sell your quilt tickets! Happy Quilting! Karen Janet Williamson 1740 Upper Mill Terrace Salina, KS tjwmson48@gmail.com
3 SILVER NEEDLES QUILT GUILD The Silver Needles Quilt Guild meeting was called to order by President Karen Sutton on August 21, 2017, at 7:00 pm. There were sixty members and four guests in attendance. Cyndi Morris introduced the speaker for the evening. Joan Smith from Osborne, Kansas, presented the program, Granny Smith s Trunk Show. Door prizes were won by Donna Bagley, Rosie Collins, Loretta Jilka, and Ann Jordan. LaQuita Geis announced that hostesses were needed for the September meeting. Eleven members participated in Show and Tell. August birthdays were acknowledged with special recognition given to Louise Haworth in honor of her 90 th birthday. A motion was made and seconded, and after a show of hands the minutes of the previous meeting were approved as presented. The treasurer s report was filed for audit. Karen announced that fifty-eight quilts were entered in the fair this year. The program for September will be Julie Craig of Wichita. She will be showing Crazy Quilts Past, Present, Future. Conee Brown announced that help is still needed for the Trio. Member s ticket packets for the opportunity quilt were available as well as forms for the auction items and quilt show. Karen reported that the $500 from the memorial for Carrol Vogt will be divided between Andra Hancock s class at the High School and the Senior Citizens. Meeting adjourned. Jody Robben, Secretary

6 SILVER NEEDLES QUILT GUILD PROGRAMS PROGRAM CHAIRS: Cyndi Morris (785) Kristy Yenkey (785) CALENDAR 2017 October 16, 2017 Debbie Wagner Debbie Wagner is a full-time artist living in Bennington, Kansas. She is a multimedia artist who developed an interest in wet felting in She continues to work with wools and silks in her art. Although it has evolved over the years, there is something very magical about the process of creating with wool and silk. She hand dyes much of her silk used with different colors of wool. She will be working with wool batting and hand dyed silk to demonstrate how to piece silk and wool together using the felting process SNQG CHALLENGE In the past year, the Silver Needles Quilt Guild has had presentations that included barn quilts and modern quilts. Based on the interest generated, it was decided that this year s challenge be selected with that in mind. Quilts for this year s challenge may be an actual barn quilt painted on wood, a one block traditional pattern much like a barn quilt made from fabric, or a modern one-block quilt. This will provide members with an opportunity to create a quilt of their liking, suited to their own style. Quilts may include borders or be borderless. Any size wooden barn quilt block and any size fabric entries from a single block, table topper, to king size quilt will be eligible for an award.
