Thank you for your cooperation. SCRAPS FROM THE PRESIDENT Wow, June/July was/is a hot one! I hope you all stayed in where it was cool and got a lot of quilting done! I'm sure you have a few unfinished items to work on. Yes, I have a few myself, man is that a understatement! I've been trying to work on one of our KQ workshop's quilt, but I haven't had much of a chance. I'm trying to get the hang of this retirement stuff, but I definitely need to perfect it. Then maybe I will get my sewing done! I am very happy to say that quite a few members have already participated in the President's Challenge for the KQ Community Project of Quilts to Share! We have such a wonderful spirit of giving in this quilt guild. I would love to see a heart by everyone's name this year! I should have the sign and more stickers for this month s meeting so we can get started. You will get one heart for your first effort to put on the poster, but we would love it if you continue to help during the rest, or part of the year. I know some of you are lucky enough to not have to winter here for the entire season. Everyone's help is needed. You don't have to sew with the group at Janet's, but it's a good way to meet more of the guild members. You can take kits home to sew, wash fabric and many more tasks you can do on your own. I'd like to give a heads up that our August meeting is one week earlier than our usual Monday of the month. Please mark your calendar that our KQ meeting is the 2nd Monday, or August 13th. This is due to our workshop is being held on that day. Jodie Madison will be teaching us Waterwheel, another Judy Niemeyer paper piecing quilt. If you want to learn how to do this, Jodie is an excellent teacher. This is also a "starting" paper piecing project. It really looks harder than it is, for this one anyway! I still give a bow to the Paper Dolls, they are an amazing group! I am looking forward to seeing you all on July 16th! Have a great week until then! 2 PRESIDENT S CHALLENGE Our Presidents challenge for is to reach 100% participation in Quilts to Share!! Quilts to Share is Keepsake Quilter s community service program, so we want to place that in the forefront this year. Who benefits from our quilts? 1) Bremwood Residential Treatment Center 2) Honor Flight pillow cases 3) Veteran s quilts 4) Hospice quilts 5) Gifts to sell for auction or at the Quilt Show to raise money for Quilts to Share. Jobs we need your assistance with: 1) Piece quilts (These are already cut and kitted up for you.) 2) Quilt quilts (Great time to learn how to machine quilt.) 3) Bind Quilts (Binding is cut, you just have to press it and work your magic, any way you want to attach it.) 4) Wash fabric (If you fold it fresh out of the dryer, you don't need to even iron the wrinkles out.) 5) Participate in Quilts to Share work days. 6) Iron fabric QUILTS TO SHARE JANET O NEIL Quilts to share work days are held each Monday of the month, except the third Monday (guild meeting day) from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Location: 4803 Cedar Heights Dr., Cedar Falls Volunteers may drop in any time those days to assist with ongoing projects. Additional help needed Quilts to Share could use your help. We need quilters. Do you know that quilting can be done with a walking foot? You would just quilt in lines and not meandering. Please consider helping us. Just let me know if you want a pinned or unpinned quilt and I will bring it to the June meeting, or you can pick up quilts at Janet s home. Just call to make arrangements. 3 PROGRAMS AND WORKSHOPS All workshops are from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. unless noted otherwise. You may begin setting up at: Bethlehem Lutheran Church at 8:30 a.m. on the morning of class. July 16, 2018 WORKSHOP PRESENTER: DIANE TOMLINSON, from the Des Moines area, is a former KQ member as well a former designer for Fons and Porter. She will teach us the Flat Star Flower. It is a great pattern for a patriotic quilt. Learn the technique of making the flower using a 60-degree ruler and decide if you want to make a table runner, a wall hanging or a quilt. 4 AUGUST 13, 2018 WORKSHOP PRESENTER: JODIE MADISON PROJECT : WATERWHEEL This is another Judy Niemeyer paper piecing quilt. It will be more of a beginning paper piecing quilt for those of you who want to give it a try. AUGUST 13, 2018 PROGRAM SPEAKER: JODY MADISON, certified Judy Niemeyer instructor from Bloomer, Wisconsin. TITLE: A TRUNK SHOW OF JUDY NIEMEYER DESIGNS Jodie s trunk contains over seventy quilts designed by Judy Niemeyer and showcases over fifty different patterns. SEPTEMBER 17, 2018 WORKSHOP PRESENTER: MONICA MYERS PROJECT: QUILTED TOTE BAG Bring your double quilted fabric to the workshop and make it into a beautiful tote. 5 OCTOBER 15, 2018 WORKSHOP PRESENTER: CHIS HULIN PROJECT: MIDNIGHT LONE STAR Designed by Judy Martin. This project is from Judy Martin's Book of Lone Star Quilts. It is a perfect size for a wall hanging. OCTOBER 15, PROGRAM SPEAKER: JUDY MARTIN World renowned quilter and quilt block designer from Grinnell, Iowa. TITLE: JUDY MARTIN TRUNK SHOW Includes Judy s latest book MEMBERSHIP ALETA ANDERSON Thirty-five members attended the June meeting and the current membership stands at 64 members. We welcome new member Cyndi Craigmile! Glad to have you with us. Membership guides for will be available for pick up at the July meeting. Make sure it is on your calendar. We will be needing volunteers before, during and after the show. So keep that in mind as you plan your fall calendar. 6 Registration for entry in the 2018 Quilt Show is open. The form is available on the web page. Each member may enter up two quilts. Additional entries will be available as space allows. You may enter any quilt that hasn t been shown in a guild show in the past. So finish your UFO s, consider a favorite that hasn t been shown before, or make something new. Time is approaching faster than you realize. Only members may enter a quilt. Not a member? Join today. Membership form is available in this newsletter and the web page. The challenge quilt for this year s show is Community Main Street Cedar Falls. Start working on your quilt for this category now. Your entry should depict Community Main Street, Cedar Falls as inspired by color, scenery, activities or ambiance. Entries may be any style or size. You can find more information about Community Main Street at: Now is the time to sell Raffle tickets. This is the main source of income for the quilt show. If you don t have your tickets or need more, be sure to see Liz Wehrmacher at the July meeting. You should have a picture of the quilt in your packet to help with your sales pitch. It is beautiful. The quilt was pieced by Liz Wehrmacher and quilted by Julie Messerly. The large queen pattern is A New Age from Nancy Rink Designs. The Raffle quilt is available for display. 12 Minutes July 2, 2018 Crazy to Quilt, Cedar Falls, Iowa Keepsake Quilters Guild Board Meeting P.O. Box 1043, Cedar Falls, Iowa The meeting was called to order by President Laura Sniffin at 5:30 pm. Present: Laura Sniffin, Deb Reuter, Liz Wehrmacher, Sue Bauer, Terri Mowery, Aleta Anderson, Teresa Sederburg and Kay Leeper. Secretary s report: The minutes of the June meeting were read. They were approved as read. Treasurer s report: The treasurer s report was presented and filed for audit. Old Business: We discussed the Golden Thimble Award. The winner will be announced at the July meeting. We are still looking for a President Elect. New Business: Cynthia Foster has volunteered to be the Newsletter Elect. Programs: Our July workshop will be Flat Star Flower by Diane Tomlinson and we have 14 members currently signed up for this workshop. The evening s program will be a trunk show by Diane Tomlinson. Our August workshop will be Waterwheel by Jodie Madison and will be held on August 13, which is one week earlier than our normal meeting. We currently have 18 members signed up for this workshop. The evening s program will be a trunk show of Jodie s quilts. The September Workshop will be Quilted Tote Bag by Monica Myers and we currently have 3 members signed up. The evening program for September will be My Quilting Journey by Carrol Brase. Quilt Show: Kay Leeper reported everything is on track for on the quilt show. Membership: Aleta Anderson reported we had 35 members at the June meeting. We currently have 64 paid members. The new membership books are done and will be distributed at the July meeting. Newsletter: The deadline for the newsletter is Friday, July 6, Adjournment: The meeting was adjourned at 5:55 pm. The next meeting will be Monday, July 30, 2018 at 5:30 pm at Crazy to Quilt.
