It s been busy! I keep thinking things will slow down a bit but haven t seen it yet. Fun times though. We ve had some great classes lately. I hope you were able to take advantage of a couple of them. I really enjoyed meeting Violet Craft and taking her class. From Facebook, I would say many of you did too. Your quilts are lovely. I hope to finish mine sometime soon. Although I ve finally retired, my old work place needs some help with year-end financial reports so that will add to the business of my week. Verve magazine spent the day with us on Sew Day and will be back for pictures. Thank you all for helping set up and take down of our displays and for those of you who came and spoke with their representative(s). Verve is promising a full write up of our guild and quilt show. Patti R. had a fun well-productive Sew Day. Thank you for showing up and helping to make it a success. I look forward to seeing the finished products. Apologies that some of us were unable to help, as we were interviewing with Verve Magazine, the Ruralite Magazine (Douglas Electric Coop magazine) and the News Review. We are excited to see what their articles will be and for the coverage for the guild and the Quilt Show. All three entities were impressed with what we do and the hard work and extent of our community efforts and promised to provide coverage in their magazine(s), the Ruralite must present the article to their board for approval but felt it should be accepted. Stitch and Sew Emporium: We are all asked to provide 3 articles for the Stitch and Sew. Remember the Stitch and Sew Emporium is one of our fund raisers and helps to keep our membership dues low. Please use your best effort and fabrics and if you took a kit home from Sew Day, please finish it and return it to Patti R. Thank you, Patti R. for working hard to put Sew Day and kits together. 1

2 Pins and Needles from the President (continued) The Quilt Show Chair and Committee are working hard to put things together for our Quilt Show. I ve seen the offering for the Make and Take and Sit and Sew and they ve done a wonderful job. These classes should be fun. Thank you, ladies. Please remember too. Our own Corrine Woodward is the Featured Quilter at Willamette Valley Quilt Festival in Albany, February 2nd and 3 rd. Please go and support her if can. The February evening and day meetings will host a trunk show by our own Caroline Devasier. Caroline does both machine and hand quilting and you ll want to see her beautiful quilts. Sew Day February: February s Sew Day has been moved up one week due to Retreat. Sew Day will be February 13. Watch for a notice from Patti R. Sew Day May: There will be no sew day for May as we are having a 2 day Sew Stay-cation at the Winston Community Center. Watch for Notices and sign-ups. Sportsman Show: Please watch for sign-ups to help out selling Raffle tickets. Phyllis C. needs our help with this, ladies. The Let s Color Together Color for February is Don t You Love Pink. This is also the Fat Quarter Color. Working Together on our Friendship Quilt, Donna FROM THE EVENING CHAIR Wasn t Violet Craft a delightful presenter? We had a capacity crowd at our evening meeting. What a treat to hear her story during her trunk show, and her class was great! Thanks to all who worked to give us those opportunities. February is knocking on our doors and flower bulbs will start peeking up from their winter naps soon. Are you planning your projects for retreat? I can t wait to hang out with many of you for a few days of sewing, shopping and shenanigans. If you re not an out-of-town retreat person, some of our creative thinkers are putting together a staycation in-area retreat for late spring. Kudos for such a great idea. Enjoy your love of quilting during the love month. Myrt LET S COLOR TOGETHER! Does the color pink bring to mind a feeling when using it in your quilt? How about feeling childish with light pink fairy wings fluttering across your baby quilt? How about feeling sweetness and tenderness when using medium pink carnations in a teenager s quilt. There s also the passion and romance you would feel with deep rose pink added into a young woman s quilt. Pink brings so many emotions to us as we sew, also including charm, politeness, sensitivity, femininity and seduction. As quilters, we always put a lot of emotion into our quilts as we think about the loved ones who will receive each quilt. Our colors also express our feelings and hopefully the recipients feel the love as they wrap their new quilts around their hearts. Margo Hess 2

3 PROGRAMS and WORKSHOPS I hope everyone has enjoyed all the workshops we have had this year there was EXCELLENT turn out at both the Bonnie Hunter and Violet Craft workshops. A good time was had by all. There are some gorgeous quilts and wall hangings that will be seen soon.. Here s the news on the up-coming programs for the rest of the year.news FLASH.. February evening and day meetings we will have the pleasure of a trunk show by our very own Carolyn Devasier I love to spotlight our own members. I know we will enjoy seeing all her beautiful quilts. March evening and day meetings will feature Claudia Law and her beautiful art quilts with a workshop to follow March 7. The workshop will be on the Diamonds and Water Lily quilt (This class is inspired by the book, Diamond Quilts & Beyond by Jan Krentz.) We have also rented the Winston Community Center for a Sew Staycation sewing event on May 15/16 for a cost of $30. This would be a great time for us to be able to come and sew, visit, and get to know each other. 4 Community Quilts: We discussed with Joan, at the Board Meeting, plans for a Community Quilt Challenge. She has some great information on the children s needs in our community. Watch and listen for additional information. SEW DAY ---- IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT! Sew Day has been changed! We will meet the SECOND Tuesday just for the month of February! Join us on February 13th beginning at 9:00 am. Remember everyone needs to make at least 3 items for our Stitch and Sew Emporium using their most current and favorite fabrics. Can't think of anything to make? How about a quilt tote? These quilters totes are very popular and sell out every year. Need a pattern? I have one, just ask and I'll it to you. We will have a special project for February so watch your for details and a materials list. Take home project kits will also be available for iron totes, shopping bags and Yo-yo Bunny tea towels.
