Today their quilts are housed in art museums and revered internationally. Debbie s PowerPoint lecture describes and displays the Emporia Kansas Phenomenon and some of the finest quilts of the 20 th century. Following the lecture and discussion, participants will be invited to make a Kretsinger-inspired quilt block of their own. Debbie Divine is passionate about quilts, quilters and quilt making. Quilts are in her genes her grandmother and her great-great grandmother were quilters (every other generation in her family gets the bug). She especially loves to try different techniques so miniatures and small quilts are ideal for her to see if she really wants to do a full size quilt in a particular technique. She s in the running for having the most fabric, patterns, books, etc. Redeemer Lutheran Church 743 East Magnolia Salina KS Board meeting 6:00 PM January Hostess Becky Mettlen Debbie Cheswick MISSON STATEMENT The purpose of the Guild shall be to provide an avenue to enrich the community through quilt making, to stimulate an interest in quilts to promote and advance the art of quiltmaking and related subjects and to encourage the preservation of quilts and their history.

FROM THE PRESIDENT Toni Armstrong 2016 Where has time gone? 2015 ended on a great note. Many of us met for a very food laden party and enjoyed the company of those that were there. It put us in a very festive mood. Show and Tell had me wishing I was on many gifts lists. Wow! What talent. We begin this New Year with great hope and joy. We hope that this year will be filled with even more joys than last and less of the negative. Make that happen as I believe the things we make and give sends out the love we put in them. So YOU are the person who makes a difference by sending out that love, quilt piece by quilt piece. Sew as we do this all year long love, love spreads and YOU will feel the joy. Come and share with us all that talent you have and that to gives me and others much joy. Here s to 2016 may it be pieced together with lots of love, laughter and colorful scrap of life and cloth Last month: Answer the Christmas Carol Riddle? Oh small Israel Urban Center O Little Town of Bethlehem WINNER: Fran Swisher WIN A FAT QUARTER Answer the Riddle? What is a snowman's favorite breakfast?

NEWS FROM THE EDITOR Tara Batman A NEW YEAR'S RESOLUTION OR NOT!! I know all of you knew that last year I made a New Year's resolution to finish one UFO a month. Well, I made my 2015 final tally and I completed 8 UFOs and added 4 UFOs to the pile, so I am four ahead. Hmmm, I see my problem for this next year; If I start a project I must finish it. This was one of more successful resolution, so for 2016 I shall tried to complete 12 more UFO and this time don't add any more. Besides this, I can't decided to add more resolutions? I have always been told that if you send out invitations to a party with RSVP that you can only except 10% response, so if that applies to resolutions I need to make 10 of them to hope one will come true. I wrote down 12, now the next thing if you write them down do you have a better success rate or not hmm. Also, do you think telling friends about your resolutions, keep you honest! I often ponder these thoughts at this time of the year, but I know each year I seem to have at least a 5% carry over factor. I think the thing I would like everyone to know that the beginning of the year is a time to reflect on the past and hope for the future. When reflecting on the past I think all those who lost dear ones or had a rough time and hope better for them. But for the future, I am beginning to think the way you handle yourself in good times and bad is the important thing. And I think we humans have to a have a period in time were we can get renewed. PS I did not eat black-eye peas on the Jan 1, that is a task my mom did, (hate them) but I kissed my best husband ever at midnight and that is supposed give you good luck as well. To each of you I wish you the best of your New Year!! NEWSLETTER DEADLINE: I will need all items that need to be printed in the newsletter on the first Monday of each month which enable me to get the newsletter out a week before the meeting; therefore you will have plenty of time to plan to come and join the meeting. I really appreciate all of your help in getting the letter together. Please contact me if you DO NOT receive your newsletter!! Also, feel free to contact me with any news items or suggestions to make this newsletter more interesting. ENJOY!! THANKS!

Ladies, It's time to start working on your block to thank our president for her year of service. Toni has requested owl blocks. These can be appliqued owls, pieced owls, embroidered owls, or even a square of owl fabric. FINISHED SIZE of these blocks should be 6 inches, 9 inches, or 12 inches. I will collect the blocks at the January and February and March guild meetings and present them to Toni at the March meeting. Happy quilting! Barbara Walker PRESIDENT QUILT BLOCKS

CARD SHOWER As many of you know Cindy Grover has been a very dear friend of mine and she had surgery on December 18th with many complications and has been ICU since. FROM CINDY'S DAUGHTER: She's frustrated that she can't talk or walk so that's bothering her. Overall she looks a lot better than she did even on Wednesday but there's still a ways to go. I did ask about cards (flowers are a no-no in the ICU), but cards are welcomed. If you want to send her a card, they can be sent to: Cindy Grover ICU Room 8-St Francis Hospital 1700 SW 7th St. Topeka, KS PLEASE HELP ME CHEER UP CINDY!!!
