Now is the time to be thinking about Thanksgiving and making Christmas presents. The best present I receive is one that someone took the time to make. Out trip to the Galilean auction was fun. We had good fellowship and a good time together. It is always good we we can laugh together. Our all-nighter was good. We had a good crowd. Sorry I couldn t make it until later, but it was fun, good food and fellowship. P.S. Don t forget your challenge in December. I may have to extend it until January. You know who (me) hasn t got it done. If you get the top done, that will be acceptable. Hope to see you at the next meeting. Do your puzzle and maybe receive a prize. SECRETARY S REPORT: Joan Beard - Secretary The Minutes for the Anderson County Piecemaker Quilt Guild for October 3, 2016 The Guild Board met at 6:00 PM. At 7 PM, President Evelyn Smith called the regular meeting to order. Present were twenty-four members, Agent Joan Martin and one guest (Miss Polly). Announcements: Bonnie Williams recently passed on. Clara sent a card and some pictures of Bonnie taken at past meetings. A plant will be sent to Bonnie s daughter in Bonnie s memory. Sew days are October 12 & 22. *An All-nighter will begin at 6 pm on October 21 st and continue into the 22 nd. Tri[ to Galilean Home October 7 leave at 10 am. One Stop Shop Hop Shepherdsville October 14 & 15. Linda sold tickets for a KQHS raffle (Small Quilt Stand) Everyone was invited to the Civil War or Underground Railroad Quilt classes at the Senior Center on Fridays from 2 to 5 pm- A lecture about the blocks begins at 2:15pm According to some participants this makes the blocks more meaningful. Marcia Roth is in the Versailles Hospital for rehabilitation.

2 Treasurer s report from Betty Jo Moss: Account balance is $ Sewing machine project 61.14, Water Filter Project - $4. Available Balance is $ Old Business: We are still collecting for sewing machines for Africa. Newsletter Puzzle winners were Peggianna and Sheila. Homemaker Calendars for were passed out. 54 quilts were displayed at the Burgoo Festival. One dollar votes were made for the favorites Sheila Dolan won 1 st and 2 nd and Evelyn won 3 rd. Money collected went to the Lighthouse Ministry. Clara Tingle won the Burgoo Festival Block contest. Guild dues were due in September. If you have not paid your dues, please do so as soon as possible and fill out the membership forms for Betty Jo. Explanation on County Dues and Use of Extension Rooms: The floor was turned over to Agent Joan Martin who explained the use of our Extension Office Meeting Room. Since we have only one room and many organizations using it, availability for extra use is limited. Out quilt guild as 2 sewing days and a meeting day with an occasional all-nighter. (A seven day advance notice is required for this.) We have the second Wednesday every month because of the Extension Officers required staff meeting and a second sew day on a Saturday. Joan explained that the meeting room downstairs is monitored by the County Judge Executive s office and is available for rental fees. In order to be able to use the extension office rooms, you must be affiliated with the extension office. That is why ten dollars of our twenty dollar membership dues goes to the Homemakers Association. The ten dollars is divided between the state, area and county. $1.00 goes to the Susan G. Coleman ovarian Cancer Screening fun. We have 100% participation in this fund because of the $1.00 per member donation. Per Glenna Smith, The guild has participated in paying the county dues since the beginning of the guild (2002). If you join a guild or club another county, you have to pay their county dues. Joan will be teaching a class on Alzheimer s on November 15 th at 6 pm. She pointed out that having a plan before someone is diagnosed is helpful. New Business: October 21 is available for an all-nighter. It was discussed and a motion was made by Joan Beard and seconded by Betty Jo Moss to have the all-nighter starting at 6 pm. We will have a pot-luck. Christmas Stocking are due at the November Meeting. We voted to collect additional money to purchase items for the stockings. A committee will meet to purchase items and stuff the stockings for homebound seniors in December. Betty Jo brought a can for collecting change for the stocking stuffers. The Challenge Quilts are due in December. We need volunteers to bring refreshments. Dixie passed a sigh-up sheet. If you missed it, many 2017 and July-November 2017 are still open. Door prizes were won by Miss Polly and Hannah Roberts. Refreshments were provided by Dixie and Linda. After refreshments, Dixie Willing presented a demonstration on mitering corners. Next months program will be the stockings for the Senior Center. Refreshments for November Hannah, Rebekah and Michelle Roberts. 2

TREASURER S REPORT: Betty Jo Moss ~ Treasurer The current bank balance is $1, Included is $63.14 for the sewing machine project, $6.00 for water filters and $39.75 for the Christmas stocking fund. County dues have been paid. Betty Jo Moss, Treasurer Reuse, Recycle Use the bottom of an empty CD jewel case with a block of felt of thin batting. It s a great carrier for pins and needles when you are stitching on the go. It s a safe place to keep small appliqué pieces. 4 RECIPE OF THE MONTH: Do you have a great recipe that you use for get-togethers like our All-nighters or meetings that includes snacks? Send them or give them to me and I will include one each month. If you have a special recipe you would like for me to feature or if you have a request, let me know. Leftover Turkey Pot Pie Servings: 6 "The perfect way to use up all the leftovers from Holiday Feasts. You can substitute any meat for the turkey 2 cups leftover turkey, chopped or shredded 2 cups turkey gravy or turkey stock 2 cups mixed vegetables 2 (9 inch) unbaked pie shells 2 tablespoons cornstarch (if using stock) 1/4 cup cold water (if using stock) 1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). 2. If you are using stock, bring the stock to a boil. Add cornstarch to cold water, and blend until smooth; whisk into stock to thicken. 3. Line a 9 inch pie plate with pastry. Mix turkey and vegetables together, and place in pie crust. Pour gravy or thickened stock over turkey and vegetables. Cover with remaining pie crust. Cut slits in the top to release steam. 4. Place pot pie on a cookie sheet to prevent stock from over flowing into your oven. Cook in center of oven until crust is golden brown, approximately 1 hour. Slice, and serve hot. 5 REQUESTED RECIPE: Pumpkin Brownies 1 15-ounce can of pumpkin ¼ cups vegetable oil 4 eggs ¾ cup brown sugar ¾ cup granulated white sugar 2 cups flour 1 teaspoon baking soda 1 teaspoon baking powder 1 teaspoon cinnamon 1/2 teaspoon allspice 1/2 teaspoon salt 1 container whipped topping or cream cheese frosting (optional) 1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Beat together eggs, oil, pumpkin, and sugars. Stir in remaining ingredients until evenly mixed. Pour into a greased and floured 9-by-13 inch baking dish. 2. Bake for 30 minutes, or until center springs back when touched. 3. Top with whipped topping or cream cheese frosting! Great way to use those left over pumpkins!
