1 Anderson COUNTY Piecemakers Quilt Guild Newsletter VOLUME 13, Issue 2 October 2018 PRESIDENT Marsha Cole VICE PRESIDENTS Rhonda Barnett NEWSLETTER & MEMBERSHIP Clara Tingle SECRETARY Betty Jo Moss TREASURER Joan Beard Reminder: New Meeting Time - 6:30 pm AROUND THE BLOCK: 1 Marsha Cole Guild President Hello Ladies, October is just around the corner. In spite of Summer temps, we are starting to see a touch of fall s beautiful colors. We had a great meeting last month and I really enjoyed the colorful input. Keep it coming as I am fairly new to the Guild and the area. I hope you are working on your buildings blocks as those will end with the December newsletter. Rhonda has a new idea that will begin in January. Can t wait to see it. Don t forget to bring you completed blocks to share in Show n Tell. We should all be working on our Christmas stockings as they are due at our November meeting. Also don t forget the rotary cutter cases. Put October 12 on your calendar for the trip to the Galilean Home. This is always a nice trip and I encourage you to call the extension office and put your name on the list and plan to go. Looking forward to seeing you all at the October 1 st meeting. Until then, keep creating NEXT MEETING: Rhonda Barnett Vice President Happy Fall Piecemakers! I want to start by thanking all of you that participated in the Heartland Of Ky Quilt Show. It was a great success. All of our quilts were treated with supreme care. The ladies of the Heartland Show sure had everything down to a science. The displays were beautiful and they had a selection of top notch vendors to peruse while at the show. For our October meeting, I want to talk about technology and quilting. I have a short presentation of how I use my ipad and apps (applications) to help me with my sewing and quilting. I d like to ask all of you to tell us about your favorite computer devices and programs and how they help you. OCTOBER BIRTHDAYS: Betty Jo Moss 10/3 Betty Sutherland 10/9 Barbara Sonnen 10/31 RECIPE OF THE MONTH: Do you have a great recipe that you use for get-togethers like our All-nighters or meetings that includes snacks? Send them or give them to me and I will include one each month. If you have a special recipe you would like for me to feature or if you have a request, let me know. Halloween Appetizers - Cocktail Weiner Spooky Goblin Toes Halloween appetizers don't have to be complicated. Make it easy on yourself by jazzing up your favorite mini pigs in a blanket! Add poppy seeds for "freckles" and sliced almonds for "nails" and you've got a creepy treat that all goblins and ghouls are sure to snatch up! Ingredients: 16 smoked cocktail wieners 1 package of refrigerated flaky pastry roll dough 1 tsp of poppy seeds 16 sliced almonds (for toe nails) Honey mustard dressing OR Swiss cheese sauce 1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Roll out refrigerated dough and separate into 8 triangles. Cut each triangle in half. Place the first cocktail wiener on top of the wide end of triangle (leaving about one-third of the wiener exposed) and roll up in the dough, ending with the skinny end. Place on an ungreased baking sheet. 2. Note: Unlike the usual mini pigs in a blanket recipe, you will want to have more of the cocktail wiener exposed as the "toe!" 3. Repeat with remaining wieners. Lightly sprinkle all appetizers with poppy seeds. Bake for 10 minutes. 4. Remove from oven and let cook slightly. Take first appetizer and holding carefully so as not to crush pastry, make a small slit inside the exposed end of the wiener and slip the edge of a sliced almond inside to make the nail of the goblin. Repeat with remaining "toes" and serve immediately. 5. For an extra creepy touch, you can drizzle with "blood" (or ketchup) or accompany with honey mustard dressing or Swiss cheese sauce. Yield: 16 goblin toes 4
5 WANTED / FOR SALE: Are you looking for a special pattern, fabric, information? If so, let me know by note or and I will list it here. FEEDBACK: If there are any errors or you were left off the show and tell, let me know and I will include it in our next issue. Or if you would like to contribute an article, hint, event, class, joke, funny story to share, please let me know. ~Clara Tingle at or Kyrose1@outlook.com. I have Included a haunted house this month. If you would like something different, please ask. You may use a different type of motifs to enhance your house. If you would like to have a copy of all the houses included for a table runner, just ask for it. There will only two more houses this year. If there is something you are looking for, let me know. 5
