2 BEGINNING SEWING BEGINNING SEWING WITH HOME DECOR This class is an introduction to basic sewing with an emphasis on Home Décor sewing. You will learn basic sewing skills such as reading pattern instructions, laying out pattern pieces, inserting a zipper, making and inserting cording and making buttonholes. Class project is three different decorator pillows. Four Sessions; 4 1/2 hours each. INSTRUCTION FEE: $ Pattern can be purchased from instructor for a minimal fee. The beautiful whistled song they make is music to the ear. What could be more beautiful than the backdrop of pines and berries with the cardinals perched in our trees. Except maybe the Northern Cardinal Quilt! The Northern Cardinal Quilt Kit is available for purchase when you enroll in this class. The kit includes pattern and all fabrics for quilt top, borders and binding. Backing is not included. Fabric is from Winter s Song fabric collection by Holly Taylor for Moda. We will be making a zippered denim purse over a 4-month period with four different zipper applications. Four Sessions; 4 hours each. 10:00am 2:00PM FEE: $70 00 or $20 00 per class. KIT FEE TBA BARBARA TROUSER ZIPPPER The front of the purse using fake fly front zipper is the first step. We will sew on the top band with ribbon tabs, do the pocket-stitching accent, and sew on the ribbon cording. MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 14, 10:00AM - 2:00PM LAPPED ZIPPPER The back of the purse is made next with the lapped zipper application. We will also sew on the top band with the ribbon tabs and sew on the ribbon cording. MONDAY, OCTOBER 19, 10:00AM - 2:00PM INVISIBLE ZIPPPER The side is made with the invisible zipper, which forms a gusset. We will make the side piece and sew it to the front and back pieces. The purse handle will be made using a 24 separating Sports zipper. MONDAY, NOVEMBER 16, 10:00AM - 2:00PM CENTER FOLD ZIPPPER The inside pocket of the purse uses a centerfold zipper as its closure. The lining will be constructed with extra pockets, the base to the purse, and sewn in to the purse. 3 FOOLING AROUND WITH YOUR FEET: QUILT BLOCK OF THE MONTH REPEATED FROM THE BEGINNING BY POPULAR DEMAND A series of classes focusing on using accessory feet with your machine's circular sewing attachment. Each month we will create a unique quilt block. The blocks can be used individually to make a pillow cover, three or more for a wall hanging, or multiples for a quilt. SMALL CIRCULAR PETALS BLOCK This block is made using your circular sewing attachment and open toe foot to create small turned circles that make up the petals of this flower. One Session; 4 hours. A purse that features twisted serger pin tucks on the outside and three pockets inside. Project appropriate for a four thread serger. Requires a sewing machine. One Session; 5 hours. Pillow cases, whether satin or fun quilting fabric, make great gifts! Everybody loves custom pillowcases from kids to grandmother! This pillowcase has piping and a contrast hem. It makes a wonderful canvas for embroidery when made with quilter s cotton. One Session; 3hours. 4 EMBROIDERY CLASSES HAPPY HARVEST SWEATSHIRT: AN EXERCISE IN MULTIPLE HOOPING & ACCURATE PLACEMENT Even though embroidery hoops are increasing in size, there are some remarkable embroidery designs that are too large for even the largest embroidery hoop. The Happy Harvest design is one example. This sweatshirt has proudly graced an Autumn bulletin board at Denton Sewing Center for years. I ve often been asked to offer it as a class. Come join us to learn easy ways to achieve accurate placement with multiple hoopings. The minimum size hoop for this design is 6 wide. One Session; 4 hours.
